That is what Claudia De Avila said when her moment to become a politician finally came, and her husband was disapproving of it; she, however, made her decision a long time ago. In this episode of Learn from Leaders, I sit down with Claudia De Avila, Member of the Permanent Commission of EUROLAT, as well as a Member of the European Union-Central America Joint Parliamentary Commission. She has had to endure a long battle of being turned aside or limited by her society, yet she nevertheless surpassed all previous expectations that they placed on her. Since a young age, she recounts the trajectory of her mission and her character for being a bit of a rule-breaker, not entirely conforming to classes or social standards. While aspiring to study communication, her father disapproved of that field, and she became a teacher and social worker. With a loving and helping hand, she proved to excel in her job for 28 years, and when a party leader allowed her to run for a position as a deputy and she took it. She spent her time waking up as early as 3 a.m. to balance both her job as a teacher and as a politician. Now she is doing what she loves with her trajectory aiming always higher, unwavering to rules, norms, or anyone telling her no. “Un poquito de hambre y un poquito de frio no le hace mal a nadie”

Daniel Lloreda
Daniel Lloreda “Es un balance entre arte y sciencia” A critical way that Daniel Lloreda analyzes the potential and value of the companies which come his way. In this episode of PIVOTeANDO, we are joined by Daniel Lloreda, General Partner/Founder, H20 Capital Innovation LLC. His great success at a young age can be attributed to his knack and willful eye for the right shots, as he recalls his time at Babson was primarily to sharpen students like himself to take chances and become an executive. With talent at networking and a hunger to make money from a young age, Daniel has always found ways to innovate and learn the markets. When he was little, he would buy candies from Costco on his trips to the U.S., and when he returned to Colombia, he would sell it to his classmates. The great thing about his company and where his career is facing is continuously in the pursuit of expanding, of finding those opportunities, stories, people that let him live a thousand lives and gives him the rush of starting from the ground up every time. His time, experience, and energy bring out the best in the businesses that he works on, and those same businesses really do bring out the best in himself. “El Equipo es todo.”

Omar Arab
“Para innovar tienes que salir del estatus quo, de la zona de confort, no hay que tener miedo al fracaso, a romper las reglas” That is how Omar Arab formulates his career in the tossing and turning of the financial, technological, and political world in which he has managed to create a name and position for himself in. In this episode of “PIVOTeANDO” we are joined by Omar Arab, Executive Vice President of Corporate Business at VeriTran. His life story is fascinating, the grandson of a Syrian immigrant moving during World War Two to Mendoza, Argentina he began to make a name for himself in selling groceries. The business that his grandfather and then father worked on became well known all throughout Argentina and gave Omar a glimpse of that entrepreneur field. From breaking the rules, a bit as a kid by learning rock & roll to then becoming radically different from his family and going off to study at Stanford, Omar has been defying that status quo. He learned and invested on that education as much as he could and has taken all the chances, he has to stay ahead such as learning about the internet before its explosion and gaining from it. Turning over to financial technology world he has continued to grow that drive to be on the cutting edge, of pushing forward what we know and what we are yet to find out. “Las personas están en cuatro modos: on, off, mute, y love”

Nadya Blel
“Lo que me hace feliz es estar con la gente” That is what drives Nadya Blel in her pursuits to help and empower the people of Colombia and Latin America that are often times unrepresented. In this episode of “Learn from Leaders” I sit down with Nadya Blel a senator of the republic of Colombia. To know her story it is important to understand one of her biggest obstacles in her career, her father’s legacy. Vicente Blel was a former senator for Colombia who was caught having ties with paramilitary factions in Colombia. Nadya had to work through her own political career with the stain that her father left and, yet she has shown to be the opposite of what those who brush her off have said. She has had to fight twice as hard becoming the youngest female senator in Colombian history and fending off accusations of corruption. All for the benefit and hope that the people that she represents and cares for might see actual change in the system. In her fight against asbestos she managed to form a coalition in congress and fight financial powers that benefit from the laws in place that was killing the people in her country. She was able to change the laws and create a movement to stop the widespread use of this deadly material which was used universally. She also shows her humility and analyzes what she might view as a weakness: feeling like she is not doing enough. She wants to do more for the people which she fights for, but having such a young age and vigor, her fights prove to just be beginning. “Aprendemos más de nuestros fracasos y caídas, que de nuestros éxitos”

Reinaldo Honduras
“De hacer el bien nadie nunca se arrepiente” That is the mindset that Reinaldo Sánchez has carried with him in life and his career as a public servant. In this episode of “Learn from Leaders” I sit down with Reinaldo Sánchez, a Honduran politician and businessman, a member of the National Party. He recalls his early signs of his career as a politician being the simple act of grabbing his treats from home and going around the neighborhood giving it out to others. He has always kept a giving and religious appreciation to life and has focused his goals in not just the helping of others through government, but to rebrand government in Latin America. With the not too fake stigma in the nation for politicians being that they are corrupt greedy men who steal from the have-nots, Reinaldo proves to be the mirrored opposite of that description. Every political victory, every family relation, every piece of happiness he takes is with humility and gratitude for life. Not to say that he has sat idle in this pursuit, no, Reinaldo has had to learn, educate himself the best he could and work twice as hard to keep on the honest path. Getting up early, working hard, and giving to others as much as he can everyday gives him his goal and in that he has had no true failures, for even they are blessings in disguise. “Early to bed, early to rise, makes men healthy, wealthy, and wise”

PIVOTeANDO Nicolás García Mayor
Nicolás García Mayor “Yo veo la vida como bendiciones o lecciones.” In this first episode of PIVOTeANDO, we have had the great pleasure of meeting with Nicolas Garcia Mayor, founder and CEO of Cmax Systems. His story from very humble beginnings and his rise through self-education and experiences has given him wisdom beyond his young age. He recounts his personal experiences from living in a modest home, playing only with cardboard toys and snails to then his time in an abandoned hospital as he began to grow and work through his career path. One step after another he has not just overcome obstacles, but appreciated what they are, lessons in a grand scheme of life. It was with those same lessons and experiences that he has been able to apply unto his businesses and projects. Always figuring out how to learn from his mistakes and to help others in the pursuit of his goals. Calling him a humanitarian would not do him enough justice to the impact he has had in this world. “No puedes hacer una gran empresa siendo una mala persona”.
