Poetry of Rastafari Elder Ras Sam Brown

Teacher RAS SAM BROWN (b. 1925, d. 1998) was one of the most outspoken, complex and influential of the "Rastafari Elders".

He was not only a poet and singer,  but a leader of the Rastafari movement.  In 1961, Brown was the first Rasta to stand for politics and run for public office in Jamaica with his "Suffering People's Party".

He released only two albums in his lifetime; "Teacher" (1991) and "History Past & Present: A Journey with Teacher Ras Sam Brown" (1997).

These three poems ("Africa My Mother", "Hope" and "Ganja") were recorded live as part of an extended interview recorded in 1992 at the WERS Studios in Boston, MA USA.

The cassettes with the complete interview audio are not currently in my possession, but I hope to recover the tapes and digitize them at some point in the near future.

Please note that the faint dialog under the poetry and dub is the result of audio from another studio or source leaking into the cassette deck where this analog audio was being recorded.  I do know know if this will also be present on the "master tape", but hope to find that soon so I can release it.
