Episode 115: Celebrating Resilience with Malcolm White
In this inspiring episode of the Recovery Lab, hosts Brynn Knox, David Sugg, and Daniel Anderson sit down with Malcolm White, a true Mississippi icon whose life story goes far beyond recovery from alcohol. Malcolm is a celebrated entrepreneur, cultural ambassador, and community builder known for co-creating the legendary Hal & Mal's, a cornerstone of Jackson’s music and food scene. He is also the visionary behind the annual Hal’s St. Paddy’s Day Parade, a beloved event that has grown into a major celebration attracting around 60,000 people and contributing over $7 million to the local economy.   Malcolm’s parade journey began in the early '80s with small St. Patrick’s Day parties at George Street Grocery. In 1983, he turned that idea into a parade, which has since evolved into a vibrant, themed rite of spring that celebrates Jackson’s culture and community. The parade, now held on the fourth Saturday in March, features creative floats, costumes, and themes and raises funds for local charities like the Children’s of Mississippi Hospital. As a former director of Visit Mississippi and the Mississippi Arts Commission, Malcolm has dedicated his life to promoting the arts, culture, and heritage of Mississippi. Join us as Malcolm shares his journey of resilience, his passion for community, and how he's used his platform to uplift others through food, music, and culture. This episode is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of recovery and the importance of celebrating our stories. #RecoveryJourney #Resilience #MississippiCulture #CommunityHealing #AlcoholRecovery #Inspiration #RecoveryPodcast #MalcolmWhite This episode is produced by Daniel Anderson at Audio Alchemy Productions.
