Re-imagining Ceremonies: A podcast by Entheos
Karen's Psychotherapy journey

Throughout the podcast series, we have heard so much of Karen's vibrant and diverse career from nursing to being an air hostess and of course being a celebrant. However, one area she hasn't explored a lot on the podcast is her background in psychotherapy.

Feargh asked a simple question at the start of the episode on how Karen got into psychotherapy and the answer is a full episode which explores following your gut, taking risks, working hard, trusting the process and so much more.

Karen discusses her journey and her work in psychotherapy from a conversation that sparked the idea, stubbornly following her gut, becoming and working as a therapist, and how, today, it informs the human side of all her work and her role in Entheos.

Embracing the Old and the New within Ceremony

This episode was originally scheduled as our second episode of 2024, but after Karen was a guest on The Tommy Tiernan Show, we pushed this episode back to do a behind the scenes of Karen's experience last week.

In this episode, Karen and Feargh discuss both old and new traditions and rituals that you find in ceremony today. They explore how you might take the old and make it feel new and fresh for your ceremony, or you might lean into the more traditional style of ceremony, or you might embrace a completely new style of ceremony. It all depends on the couple and what resonates with them.

Heteronormativity in the Ceremony World with Lisa Nic An Bhreithimh

Heteronormativity is one of the major social constructs that Entheos wishes to challenge in the ceremony world. We have wanted to explore the specific issues around this topic that show up for couples in the everyday planning of their weddings and on the day of their wedding, but we have wanted to do it with someone who has or is experiencing the heteronormativity within the wedding industry.

We couldn't be happier to be joined by Lisa Nic An Bhreithimh who is getting married next year (YAY!) and is currently planning the wedding. We are so grateful Lisa opened up about her current experience planning the wedding, both the good and the more difficult times.

Our experience at the Queer Death Cafe

After attending a Queer Death café, organised by LGBT.ie at the Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride Hub, Karen and Feargh share their experience of attending the event and what you might expect if you were to attend a death cafe.

Their discussion of the Queer Death cafe leads to chats on grief, end of life choices, fears, thoughts on death and more.

Please be aware that there are discussions of death and grief within this episode and some discussions mention infant death, which may be triggering for some.

We currently record at our city centre venue, City Sanctuary, and on occasion, we get external noises such as an ambulances as background noise.
