Antarctica
Antarctica, the coldest place on Earth, is a land of extremes and a hub for scientific research. It is considered a desert due to its minimal precipitation, yet it holds 70% of the world's freshwater frozen within its massive ice sheet. Despite its harsh conditions, Antarctica supports diverse wildlife, including penguins, seals, and even unique microorganisms in its subglacial lakes. Scientists study its ice cores to understand past climate patterns. Additionally, Antarctica's clear skies make it an ideal location for astrophysics research. The continent is governed by the Antarctic Treaty, which prohibits military activity and promotes international cooperation for scientific exploration.

The Mona Lisa Vanishes
In 1911, a man by the name of Vincenzo Peruggia hid in the Louvre after closing. He went into a gallery, took a small Renaissance portrait off the wall and the following morning, he walked out with it under his cloak. That theft brought The Mona Lisa out of the museum and into pop culture. This week as it is back to school season, we thought it might be fun to cover a great historical heist and a new middle grade non fiction book telling the story that is stranger than fiction. We had a special guest this week as Nicholas Day, author of The Mona Lisa Vanishes participated in a rapid fire "Fact or Fake" segment telling us some fun facts and dispelling myths about the most famous painting in the world. Check out The Mona Lisa Vanishes on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Mona-Lisa-Vanishes-Legendary-Celebrity/dp/0593643844/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2OQSTJ5QBKOZE&keywords=the+mona+lisa+vanishes&qid=1693878096&sprefix=the+mona+lisa%2Caps%2C105&sr=8-1 or wherever you get your books. Roller Coasters
This week's episode is all about roller coasters. Learn a bit about kinetic and potential energy as it is applied to one of the most thrilling experiences in the world. Find out how roller coasters evolved from Catherine the Great's desire to go sledding in the summer, and a whole lot more. In this week's Fact or Fake: Doctors in the Orlando Florida area have been writing prescriptions for patients to ride Disney’s Tower of Terror ride. They say that patients suffering from a blockage in the digestive system can have it scared out of them. They say the sudden freefall has a roughly 66% success rate at dislodging an obstruction.  Or One of the earliest American roller coasters was a coal mine. The Mauch Chunck Switchback Railway was built in 1827 to haul coal between two mines. People saw the coal trains zooming down hill at up to 50 miles per hour and thought, why should the coal have all the fun and tourists started paying to ride. Listen to the episode to find out which is the true fact and which is just something silly and strange we made up.
