Punisher 213 Finale Review The Whirlwind by Defenders TV Podcast

It's the final episode of the Punisher. With so many characters needing a payoff we discuss how successful it was in our Punisher 213 Review podcast for "The Whirlwind". We talk about our top five bullet points about this episode in our Spoiler filled discussion. As always make sure you've watched the episode before listening to the podcast.

Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Amy (Giorgia Whigham) take a moment out.

Punisher 213 Review Spoiler filled Synopsis

Episode Written by: Steve Lightfoot

Episode Directed by: Jeremy Webb

After witnessing Krista Dumont's fall and believing her dead, Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) full of rage tries to kill Dinah Madani (Amber Rose Revah) in retaliation. He is shot by her and forced to escape from the police as they arrive. Badly wounded Russo attempts to get help from a whiskey swilling back-alley surgeon Doctor Charles (E.J. Carroll), who true to his name dumps Russo in a back-alley wheelie bin after taking all his money. As Russo awakes in the bin with his wounds still open and bleeding the irony of his situation is not lost on his dark sense of humour.

Elsewhere and unbeknownst to Russo, both Dinah Madani and Krista Dumont (Floriana Lima) are still alive. As Krista awakes in hospital she is visited by Madani who forgets to bring flowers, chocolates and a bunch of grapes but remembers to bring lots of attitude! Meanwhile, a deal made between the Schultz’s and Frank Castle to exchange David Schultz (Todd Alan Crain) for Amy (Giorgia Whigham) gets complicated. As Amy notifies Frank of Pilgrim's whereabouts, she is only kidnapped by the Pilgrim during the ensuing shootout between him and Frank.

At the same time Curtis Hoyle (Jason R. Moore) goes off script to free David and turns him over to Detective Sergeant Brett Mahoney (Royce Johnson). As the non-exchange of David and Amy gets crazy Pilgrim and Castle engage in a brutal hand-to-hand fight that Frank wins; but he doesn’t kill the Pilgrim after being asked by him to spare his sons. Instead Frank uses the man in black to secure a path to the Schultz residence where bullets go bang.

Finally, as Russo takes shelter in Curtis' workplace basement, he waits for Curtis to sit with him until he dies. However, Curtis has called Frank who, with no chit-chat, executes Russo off-loading two bullets into his chest, killing him instantly!

Three months later, after sending Amy to Florida to learn scuba-diving,

Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) bruised and battered calls time with Micro (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) believing that his solo run to inform Dinah Madani (Amber Rose Revah) of the events and people at Kandahar has betrayed their partnership. Elsewhere William Rawlins (Paul Schulze) attempts to gain sympathy from CIA Deputy Director Marion James (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) in an attempt to use CIA resources to track Frank Castle. As Rawlins uses all his resources to hand, danger knocks on Sarah Lieberman’s door as both Sarah (Jaime Ray Newman) and Zach (Kobi Frumer) are kidnapped by Russo's men. As the dominoes fall Frank and Micro’s location is traced off the back of Sarah’s cell phone. Frank anticipates this course of action but as Frank makes preparations at the disused power station he has second thoughts about about breaking his partnership with Micro as they both see the event’s at the Libermann home unfold and see Leo (Ripley Sobo) elude capture. As David reunites with her at an old family hangout and enlists Madani's aid, Castle ambushes and kills the assault team in the power station as he takes his quest for vengeance to the next level with some help from The Punisher. After her grilling at Homeland Security by Madani and her boss, Deputy Director Marion James calls time on Rawlins' duplicitous nature asking that he fix his problem by sacrificing Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) and resigning his position to protect the Agency. With his assault team dead, Russo arranges a location for a hostage exchange site, demanding that Castle and Lieberman exchange themselves for Sarah and Zach.

Punisher Episode Nine Review Podcast Spoiler filled Synopsis

Written by: Angela LaManna

Directed by: Marc Jobst

As Dinah Madani (Amber Rose Revah) continues to blame herself for Stein's death, Lewis executes a series of bombings throughout New York City witnessed by Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Micro (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). As the terrorist alert rises in New York, Lewis Wilson (Daniel Webber) sends Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) a letter, believing she will side with his cause as she had with Castle. When she doesn't, he contacts Page as she participates in an on-air debate between her and pro-gun control Senator Stan Ori (Rick Holmes) and threatens her life and the lives of those at the New York Bulletin. He hangs up after he issues his warning "sic semper tyrannis" that is recognised by both Castle and Curtis Hoyle (Jason R. Moore) reciting his unit’s Latin phrase “Thus always to tyrants”.  Curtis immediately goes looking for Lewis, ending up at O'Connor's house where he finds Lewis’ bomb-making supplies and O'Connor's decaying corpse only for Lewis to overpower him and tie him to a chair with a Claymore mine strapped to his chest with “Front Towards Enemy". As Castle waits outside Lewis’ home Micro tracks his cell phone signal to O’Connor’s address where Frank finds Curtis and save his life after convincing Lewis to disarm the bomb. Castle proceeds to escape from the police after Lewis calls in the police to aid his escape and keep Frank at arms length. Meanwhile, in a bar Madani summons Dutch courage in anticipation for Stein’s funeral where she hopes to make a grand gesture in his memory. As she gets up to go Lieberman introduces himself to her at the bar and not only reveals Rawlins' name to her but also his work with Castle, just as a police car dash-cam footage on the news captures Frank’s image escaping the scene of a bomb factory and raising his public profile and continued existence.

As Castle heads back to Micro’s home to confront Zach about the knife he has in his possession he learns that he has grown afraid since his father's "death". After convincing Lieberman that seeing his son would be too dangerous, the two agree that the next course of action is to work with Madani. Meanwhile, Rawlins and Russo decide to go after Castle, unaware that Madani, Sam Stein (Michael Nathanson) and their DHS team are going after them as part of a decoy operation. A shootout unfolds, in which several SWAT officers and several of Russo's men are killed. As Russo makes his escape from the trap, Stein flanks and corners Russo outside. As Russo is about to be cuffed Russo pulls his concealed assassin knife on Stein. As he bleeds out Madani rushes to save him but as he tries to tell her about Russo the words fail as his breath slips slowly from him. As Madani sits in shock in her bathtub she consoled and helped to wash the blood off her body by Russo.
