Back in the 90s, I would often take late night drives between the San Francisco Bay Area (where my parents lived) and Santa Barbara (where I went to college). During the dark, lonely hours cruising down highway 101, I’d listen to a funky, weird, slightly creepy yet interesting radio show. I never quite understood what it was. That’s because it was Art Bell’s Coast to Coast AM radio show.

Thankfully, if you missed this summer’s Cosmic Summit, it’s the same people presenting their same lame pseudoarchaeology ideas in the same boring context. If you’re looking for a black hole in which to dump money and time, you have found it!

I noticed some heated online arguments in the anthropology world about human sexuality, where several noted anthropologists recommended the book “Sex is a Spectrum” by Agustin Fuentes, so I read it. What I learned: Unfortunately, pseudoscience exists in other realms beyond pseudoarchaeology.

It’s time to talk about the hardest question in all of archaeology! This is something I get asked about a lot, plus there is a pseudoarchaeological component to this (130 thousand year old sites in the New World?). Prepare yourself for the deeply unsatisfying yet super interesting tale of the first people to enter the New World.

Graham Hancock posted a 75 minute YouTube video about how people like me are frauds, but people like him are just poor, attacked heroes fighting for justice. I thought a good move here would be to not bother fighting against his silly pseudoarchaeology stories too much this time (that’s what all my other podcast episodes are for!), but instead have a little fun by analyzing his video through the lens of narcissism (while still making fun of his idiotic stories at the same time - I can do both at the same time, I swear!).

I recently got the unfortunate news that Dr. Brian Fagan, one of my mentors in archaeology (and especially archaeology for the public), had passed away. I thought I’d take some time to reminisce about my time with him and how it affected me.

Every so often, I need to bring this situation up to date! It’s current events time here at the Pseudoarchaeology Podcast, so I thought I’d discuss three things: The “structures” underneath the pyramids (there aren’t any), how the location of the Lost Ark was found in 1988 (it wasn’t), and how I was a special guest on Flint Dibble’s livestream with Milo Rossi (it was super fun)!

So I went to the annual Society for American Archaeology meetings in Denver weekend before last. I presented on my archaeology work on the Maya cenotes in Belize, but I also spent lots of time listening to (and assisting with) presentations on how to present archaeology to the public. What I learned: some people absolutely understand how to present archaeology to the public, and some people have no clue. Tune in to figure out who’s who! So there I was, minding my own business when the Ronald Reagan Library gave me a call and asked me to check out their exhibit on the Dead Sea Scrolls! Did they want me because I am a world-renowned archaeologist, or because I’m an archaeologist who lives only 10 minutes away? Either way, it was great.

Some days in life you may find yourself at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Waikiki Beach. Those are defined as “good days.” While experiencing one of those good days, I thought “why not try and do a “live” podcast using just my phone and the shaky hotel wifi, centered on the history and ghost stories associated with the hotel?” It sounded like a great idea to me - listen in to see if it actually worked!

Sedona Arizona is a pretty place. It’s also so full of New Age groups and believers that it puts the mumbo in mumbo jumbo. Is this a good thing, bad thing, or it-doesn’t-matter thing?

Everyone's favorite monolith must be the one from 2001: A Space Odyssey, but did you know that monoliths have been popping up across the world in mysterious and unexplained ways?  Taking this one step further, if you are guessing that "mysterious and unexplained" may be secret code words for "fake and easily explainable" then you my friend may be a master of secret codes!
