Lifestyle med, sports med, leadership, advocacy, and working in a big healthcare system!
Gee, we covered a lot in this succinct episode! Great to connect with @alexzmcdonald (Alex McDonald, MD) about many topics in primary care. Enjoy your September episode (yes, I know it is late. My bad.)!
Telehealth, remote primary care, and the future of medicine!
This episode with Josh Emdur, DO is a fun and interesting one about telehealth, remote primary care, and the future of medicine! We get into all sorts of topics from his time as a hospitalist, to him changing up his practice completely and getting out of the hospital and into a role as a remote primary care doctor.
He details his ideas on how to make big change in medicine by thinking outside the box, and how his remote primary care practice works. And you know he's legit because he's a distance runner, and sub-elite marathoner

Direct Primary Care!
Dr. Brie Seefeldt is an awesome guest on the podcast. She talks about how she got out of the world of corporate medicine to start her own small, independent practice that functions as direct primary care (DPC), circumventing insurance and giving her patients quality time and quality care. She talks about the details regarding DPC and how it functions. We hit on other topics such as osteopathy in general, and how she uses OMT. Funny enough, she trained in family medicine at the very program that I will train at! Shout out to Swedish Medical Center. So that's very fun.

Business of Medicine!
Releasing this just after the Match, so I hope everyone is in high spirits with no stress at all in their lives!
Today's episode is with Marcia Brauchler, a business consultant for physicians. She is the owner and founder of Physicians' Ally, a consulting firm that helps physicians negotiate contracts with insurance companies so they can realize their maximum worth and value as providers. We talk extensively about contract negotiation, coding and billing, and compliance. Believe me, this is an exciting topic because so little of what she does in her world is taught to physicians anywhere in their training process. She loves to work with doctors of all kinds to help them not only get reimbursed what they are worth, but in doing so, also deliver better care to their patients. In 2020, Marcia launched a partnership with the University of Denver to teach her CPC Exam Prep Coding Class.
Hope you enjoy!

Sports Medicine!! If that doesn’t excite you, I don’t know what will. This episode was a delightful, in-person(!) interview with Dr. Kathy Vidlock. She did her residency in family medicine and practiced as a family doctor for 10 years prior to completing a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Iowa. She has worn many hats throughout her career and we talk about many of them including being a team physician, a PCP, a sports med specialist, ultrasound guru, and a preceptor for residents. Speaking of residents, be sure to check out the previous 3 episodes which are with resident physicians talking about applying to residency and being a resident in family and internal medicine. You can listen on any podcast platform including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and plenty more. Thanks friends, hope you enjoy.
This fantastic episode is with Kristina Hulen, MD who is a second-year family medicine resident at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, CO. We discuss the ins and outs of family medicine residency, including the journey to get there. She gives us a break down of her day to day life, as well as a more zoomed out view of the overall timeline of her three years of training. She also talks about her passions within the field such as palliative care. Many other topics as well!

This episode of the Primary Care Podcast is with internal medicine intern, Dr. Michal Klepadlo. He recently started residency at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, CO. We discuss many things in this episode including how to set yourself up to apply to residency, his love of clinical reasoning and how to improve your skills, his appreciation for the power of touch, evidence-based medicine, and many other topics. Great insights from a doc who navigated the difficult waters of going through the residency application cycle during the COVID pandemic and was able to secure a great residency. Good luck to Dr. Mike and to everyone else out there taking exams, applying to residency, starting residency, or embarking on any other new journey in healthcare. Thanks for listening. Enjoy.
