Listen to VOM Radio to meet Hana, the daughter of an Eritrean Christian Pastor who has been in prison there without charges for more than 20 years.

Dr. Tekleab Mengisteab was a medical doctor and a leader in the World Health Organization for the nation of Eritrea. He was also an ordained minister in the Orthodox Church of Eritrea. Since November 19, 2004, Dr. Mengisteab has been a prisoner for Christ, imprisoned without charge or trial by the government of Eritrea. Today he is one of more than 300 imprisoned Christians there.

Listen as Mengisteab’s daughter, Hana, shares the story of her father’s arrest and of God’s faithfulness to her and her family through the past 20 years. She will tell us how she has found joy amidst suffering, but also how she’s come to know that the Lord “welcomes my grief.”

Hana was just six years old when her father was arrested. She remembers her mother and church elders at their home talking about her father being gone. “What did it mean that my father is in prison?” Hana wondered. Even after Dr. Mengisteab’s arrest, the church continued to meet and minister. Hana’s mom continued her church activities, risking her own arrest.

Only months after her father’s arrest, Hana found herself in police custody when authorities raided a children’s Sunday School meeting. Children as young as 12 were put in handcuffs, yet these young believers had been prepared for Christian persecution. They began to loudly sing praises to God.

Hear her incredible story at VOMRadio.net/Hana or wherever you listen to podcasts.

A respected Christian apologist is exposed for leading a double life and preying on women. A pastor and his family receive death threats after apologizing for giving a false prophecy about the 2020 election. A husband’s adulterous fling is arranged and publicly exposed by a media outlet. A financial secretary steals half a million dollars from her church. Christians are breaking commandments, leaving trauma, broken lives, and sorrow in their wake. How can this be?

It's a tale as old as time: people caring more about themselves than their neighbors, wayward hearts too busy or disinterested in knowing the Bible, and a desire for power instead of transformation.

As a child, Kerry Larson Luddy remembers being confused by the Bible having “old” and “new” parts. Does this mean the old is bad? Is God better in the new version? How are these two parts even connected? The frayed edges of her understanding began to mend years later as s...

VOM Radio

We are so excited to have VOM Radio as a sponsor for Pray Every Day this month.

The Most Overwhelmed Women of the Bible

Many of us feel overwhelmed by daily life.

With the onset of social media, we not only worry about myriad tasks, but we feel bad if we don’t measure up to everyone else’s highlight reels. We lack Sabbath, and we push away rest—even though we desperately need it. And yet, the Bible is replete with women just like us—women who felt the weight of overwhelming schedules and circumstances. In their stories, you will not only learn more about the women of the Bible, but you’ll begin to unpack ways to find true rest and peace.

How about you? Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the tasks and circumstances of your life? Do you wake up every day feeling unmotivated or stressed out? You are not alone. Not only have others around you experienced the same things, but many women in the Bible have too. We all have asked questions like:

·       Why do some people seem to be able to balance everything?

·       What would a peaceful, restful life look like for me?

·       How can I find God in the midst of my busy life?

This feeling of overwhelm plagues us all, but we don’t need to stay there. Through the raw and real stories of ten biblical women who also felt overwhelmed, you can unearth new ways to find rest in a world that applauds hurry.

The Most Overwhelmed Women of the Bible will help you find true rest, shake hands with who you are and where you are, and empower you to find hope in the midst of life’s chaos.
