Political Frenzy

Between the new maps in PA, the absurd petitioning cycles, and all of the races happening in the upcoming midterm elections we have so much to discuss. If you live in PA don't forget our upcoming primary is happening on May 17!

Nationally, we are making history in the highest courts of the land, we are so excited about Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson! The Biden Administration has once again pushed back the start of student loan repayments (yea, we're still calling for the cancelation as promised over here). Also, we will never get rid of the messiness that is the 45th Administration.

Check out this episode with Ashley and Chavaysha to keep updated on where our politics are taking us.

BPM + Delancey Walton PPS School Board Candidate, District 9

We're back and not letting up with these candidate interviews for the PA May 18th Primary. This episode Ashley and Pierre Defecto talk with Pittsburgh Public School Board Candidate Delancey Walton. She is running for the seat in District 9 and we are here for this race.

This episode is full of inspiration and energy from the youngest candidate on the ballot. Delancey is coming into this race carrying the message of how important the youth voice is in our conversations about public education.

It takes a candidate who can really give a lived experience for today's student while also having the opportunity to step up and do something about the things we know needs to change.

Tap in to this episode and hear all about Delancey Walton and her vision for the school board!

BPM + Khamil Scantling - PPS School Board Candidate, District 7

Ashley & Pierre Defecto are back with another episode and this time we have another candidate who is running for office in the PA 2021 Primary Elections. We are still talking school board because there are a lot of seats up for the Pittsburgh Public School District.

This episode we speak with Khamil Scantling, founder of Cocoaprenuer, co-founder of Greenwood Week, and an overall community advocate. This episode you'll hear about who Khamil is, what she stands for and her goals for the district. As we always say it's a breath of fresh air to hear from people who want to do something different. You know the saying, if we keep doing the same things over and over again but expecting different results, you know the rest!

We're sure this episode will further help you understand why school boards are so important. They have the opportunity to unlock the most potential of our young people who will be our future leaders. It's only right we ensure our school system is doing just that. Tap in to this episode and get in to this conversation because it's about all of us!

BPM + Grace Higginbotham - PPS School Board Candidate, District 1

Our third candidate interview and this time your BPM host Ashley & Pierre Defecto talk with Grace Higginbotham. Grace is a candidate for the Pittsburgh Public School Board District 1 seat and this race is one we surely have our eyes on. Martell and Ashley have a personal community investment in this particular district, so the conversation definitely gets into the meat of what we know needs to change when it comes to our public education system.

This candidate comes through with so many gems and as we repeat through this episode, it's a breath of fresh air. Grace is endorsed by Black Women for Better Education as well as Black Political Millennials.

What does all this school board stuff mean? Hear about the plans and vision Grace has for the students of Pittsburgh Public Schools while also talking about why she is qualified to fulfill this important role in service of the community and it's families.

March Madness!

We know, it's April, but we recorded this in March (a few days ago) and this is dropping today because March was MADNESS!

On this episode we scream out we will not stop demanding the end to white supremacy. We want to lift up our siblings in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. The attacks in Atlanta and the overall increase in violence against the AAPI community is intolerable and we will not be silent.

This episode we also share our recommendations for local races across our region in the Greater Pittsburgh area and Allegheny County and we even lift up a race in Beaver Falls, Butler County. This is a big episode with your favorite Black Political Millennials.

The Hill We Climb

It's a new day when it comes to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. We are officially under the 46th Administration and we dive into this episode during Black History Month to catch up. Like most of us we are still asking what is time because it waits for nobody! We kick off this episode with an excerpt from Amanda Gorman's reciting of her poem "The Hill We Climb" and the inauguration of President Joseph R. Biden and VP Kamala Harris. Biden did what we all knew and has as of this recording signed 49 executive orders. We talk about the fallout from the insurrection at the capitol and how we are moving in 2021. We wrap up this episode a little more heavy on local politics in Allegheny County. So far this New Year isn't play fair either.

Olympus Has Fallen

Well, the first week of 2021 has surely ended in a bang. White supremacist domestic terrorist sieged the US Capitol on January 6th and did exactly what so many of us knew would happen. The fanning of flames and overlooking of the deep rooted issues in the country dating back to 1492 have brought us here. Your host Ashley & Pierre Defecto with special guest PA State Rep. Summer Lee dive into this mess and I think we all had lot's to get off our chest. We also touch on while the siege was going down Georgia flipped the US Senate, electing the first Black Senator out of Georgia, and the overall south for that matter and it's first Jewish Senator, Jon Ossoff. They are big mad out here y'all! Get into this first episode of the new year and remember we are still wearing masks in 2021!

BPM's 2020 Wrap Up

It has been one wild year! Your BPM host Ash & Pierre Defecto do a year in review. Can't lie, it's exhausting y'all but we can't forget how messed up the current political climate is and will continue to be if we don't keep doing the necessary work. From our communities to the polls. This episode is launching on the first day of early voting in GA so to our folks in the state, GO VOTE! The Runoff election is January 5th. These two Senate seats could really set up the movement work as we continue to push for the changes we need if these seats are both won by the democratic party. So we can apply ALL the pressure. Also, we are a little over a month away from the Inauguration of the 46th President and we dive in to the incoming Freshman Class of the 117th US Congress. It's deep y'all and the GOP is out here years ahead of the Democrats. We also dive a little into COVID-19 and the vaccines coming out. Where y'all at with that? Lastly, we wrap up with some local news about the Allegheny County Jail and it's problematic ways.

Pat yourself on the back for making it this far. We hope everyone stays safe, masks up, and take it easy as we enter into the new year.

Happy Holidays to all!

Post Election 2020

Well, we have defeated Trump despite his refusal to concede. What else should we expect from our toddler-in-chief. Ashley and Martell dive into all the chaos post the defeat of 45's administration and our new President-Elect Joseph Biden and VP-Elect Kamala Harris. It's not lost on the team how monumental this election is for this country. It's also the place where we hope to see the people apply the pressure needed on the incoming administration. The Georgia senate runoff can be a game changer this January - VOTE GA! The expected "Blue Wave" did not happen in state legislatures across the country, and what we aren't going to do over this way is blame progressives. There's a lot more to that problem we have in America. Get into this latest episode with your favorite Black Political Millennials as we keep navigating in these political streets.

America Falling

Kind of feels like we're falling deeper and deeper into a space of, yes things can and will get worse. Trump has declined the formality of a second presidential debate because his positive results for the Corona Virus isn't reason enough to take precaution for the safety of others. Not that we expect much after the first shit show of a debate. Senator Kamala and VP Pence gave us a little bit of policy talk but was just another display of why this system of white patriarchy but be brought down. The Senate won't play fair and we give our thoughts on the bulldozing of nominating a supreme court justice after the passing of the Notorious RBG (RIP). The lack of care for the humanity of immigrants being grossly contained in ICE facilities is on our list of the BS we must call out. O yea and the plan to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer by a militia group was busted. We are still pissed about Breonna Taylor so we say her name in this episode. We also talk a little local politics to wrap up this episode which was long overdue. We missed y'all and hope you enjoy this episode as we get us through to THE DAY, November 3rd. This election is around the corner and there is so much to discuss. Tune in and get updated with Ash & Martell aka Pierre Defecto.
