Being born in South Africa, I often yearn to the fragrance of the earth after a beautiful soft rain. I would run out of my childhood home when the first drops reach the dry earth ! I marveled in the smell almost chocking me. I would pick up handfuls of dry sand and hold it up to the sky. Then I would bring it to my nose gentle like a first kiss and loose myself in it’s scent !! Come on my journey with me to South Africa and it’s beautiful rich soil of all hues!
I am a immigrant from South Africa 🇿🇦 . I never thought I would love to see this day. The daughter of an immigrant will be sworn in as the Vice President of the United Stares of America! My heart is full. The hope it brings ❤️ May God be with President Biden and Vice President Harris!
These words were used by 20,000South African women who marched against the Pass Laws in South Africa! This took place on the 9th of August 1956. It was a significant turning point in the struggle against apartheid.
