2025 Comicpalooza Post-con Report
Hayden Christensen on stage during his panel at Comicpalooza 2025 in Houston, TX.
Comicpalooza 2025 is officially wrapped up, and it was quite the weekend! In this episode, I share a full recap of my time at Houston's premier pop-culture event, filled with panels, autographs, and plenty of memorable moments.
Things kicked off strong on Friday with an excellent panel featuring Hayden Christensen, where fans got a chance to hear directly from the Star Wars star about his experiences. The excitement ramped up even further on Saturday, which turned into a packed day with amazing panels featuring both Adam Savage and Patton Oswalt. Their insights and stories were highlights, making the sessions engaging and entertaining.

Adding to Saturday’s excitement, I was joined by my kids, Jack and Elizabeth, turning it into a fantastic family outing. Elizabeth had her heart set on getting autographs from two specific celebrities—Cheech Marin and Alan Tudyk. We managed to secure Cheech’s autograph without any trouble, but the line for Alan Tudyk was overwhelming, leading us to postpone that task until Sunday.

Returning on Sunday, I successfully snagged Alan Tudyk's autograph, fulfilling Elizabeth’s wish and rounding out our autograph collection perfectly. The day wrapped up with stellar panels featuring Ming-Na Wen and Temuera Morrison, both of whom delivered engaging discussions and plenty of entertaining anecdotes.
Highs and Lows?
Later in the episode, Caroline and I dive into a thoughtful conversation about the event’s overall celebrity guest lineup. We discuss whether Comicpalooza should expand their roster to better compete with bigger conventions found in nearby cities like Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and New Orleans, which tend to offer more extensive and diverse celebrity slates. We weigh the pros and cons, discussing what makes these events successful and appealing.

Despite these discussions about potential improvements, my overall experience at Comicpalooza was genuinely positive. It provided plenty of fun, memorable experiences, and quality time spent with family. Listen to this episode to get all the detailed stories, insights, and our personal takes on the weekend's standout moments!

It's hard to say goodbye, but here we are—the final podcast for The Handmaid’s Tale has arrived! Paul and Caroline dive deep into the 10th and final episode of Season 6, fittingly titled "The Handmaid’s Tale."

THE HANDMAID’S TALE Season 6 Episode 10 - “The Handmaid’s Tale” - June reflects on her experiences in Gilead and decides what to do next. (Disney/Steve Wilkie)MADELINE BREWER

After the thrilling climax of Episode 9, this finale took a quieter approach, focusing on resolution, emotional closure, and laying the groundwork for The Testaments, the upcoming sequel series based on Margaret Atwood’s novel. Paul and Caroline generally appreciated the emotional payoff and the sense of closure for characters we've followed closely for eight years. But not in every case.

THE HANDMAID’S TALE Season 6 Episode 10 - “The Handmaid’s Tale” - June reflects on her experiences in Gilead and decides what to do next. (Disney/Steve Wilkie)YVONNE STRAHOVSKI

They didn't shy away from highlighting some storytelling choices that didn’t fully land. While not as critical as some online commenters, they felt that the finale spent a bit too much time on indulgent flashbacks and montages, time which could have been better used to deepen certain pivotal moments. (We're looking at you, Naomi.)

Still, the journey has been incredible, and both hosts agree the finale succeeded in leaving us hungry for what's next. Paul and Caroline will definitely return to cover The Testaments when it premieres.

The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 8
THE HANDMAID'S TALE Season 6 Episode 8 - “Exodus” - June and Moira execute their dangerous plan. Serena makes a big commitment. (Disney/Steve Wilkie).
The revolution has begun. In The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 8 "Exodus", the carefully plotted rebellion against Gilead erupts during Serena Joy’s wedding, shifting the tide of power in ways we’ve long hoped—and feared. On this week’s podcast, Paul and Caroline unpack the episode’s three central storylines and what they mean for the final stretch of the series.
The episode unfolds through three distinct perspectives:
Serena’s Wedding:It’s the centerpiece of the rebellion. The plan to bomb Jezebels has been replaced with something quieter but just as deadly: poison. Serena’s maroon wedding cake becomes a focal point—rich in symbolism, according to Paul and Caroline, who debate its possible meanings. The poison weakens the guests, setting the stage for the handmaids to strike later that night. But what comes next for Serena? In the final scenes inside her and Wharton’s new home, we’re left wondering: Is she a survivor, a pawn, or a player?

June’s Command:June leads from the front, orchestrating the handmaids’ infiltration and managing the rebellion in real time. Paul and Caroline discuss June’s transformation into a true field general—steely, smart, and still deeply human. They also wrestle with the looming question: what does a “win” even look like for June at this point, and is it within reach?

Aunt Lydia’s Reckoning:The final storyline brings us to Aunt Lydia, whose breaking point finally arrives at the Red Center. Surrounded by Janine and the other handmaids, she is forced to confront the consequences of her life’s work. In her quiet moments and subtle gestures, a transformation begins—one that may redefine her future in Gilead.

The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 7
THE HANDMAID'S TALE Season 6 Episode 7 - “Shattered” - After a shocking revelation, June spirals. Serena plans for a prestigious future. (Disney/Steve Wilkie)YVONNE STRAHOVSKI
The fallout from Nick’s betrayal shakes every corner of Gilead—and The Handmaid’s Tale delivers one of its most emotionally charged episodes yet. Paul and Caroline are back to break it all down.
“Shattered” picks up immediately after last week’s shocking ending. June is forced to silently listen as Commander Wharton details Nick’s betrayal to Serena. Meanwhile, Jezebels becomes a massacre site: the workers are rounded up and executed, with Janine alone spared—with the nasty Commander Bell as her benefactor.

June and Nick share a tense, painful car ride toward the border. Nick tries to justify his actions, claiming June never understood the risks he carried in Gilead. But June isn’t interested in apologies. She leaves him behind, striding toward the rebel base—and toward a life without Nick in it.
Back in New Bethlehem, Serena faces ridicule from the other Wives at her bridal shower. She demands a grander wedding from Wharton, who agrees but insists that Handmaids be part of the guest list—a decision that will have explosive consequences.

At the Mayday base, June confesses her role in the failed Jezebel’s mission, costing her standing among the rebels. But when Commander Lawrence visits, June realizes that Serena’s wedding offers a rare opportunity. A new plan quickly forms.
The episode ends with a pulse-pounding montage: poison is delivered to Rita, who will be baking Serena’s wedding cake. Moira and June are hidden among the Handmaids at the Red Center, preparing to arm the women for what’s coming next.

Big moves. Bigger betrayals. And a very unexpected reunion. Paul and Caroline are back on the podcast to break down every twist in Episode 6, “Surprise.”
June and Moira finally escape Jezebels—thanks to the reluctant help of High Commander Lawrence. Though wary of helping Mayday, June tempts him with the promise of being the last commander standing in Boston if he plays his cards right. Lawrence gets Moira back to the border, but June stays behind to tie up dangerous loose ends.

She convinces Nick to retrieve letters hidden in a guardian’s safe. He agrees, but it puts him in the crosshairs. Commander Bell spots Nick at Jezebels and wastes no time telling High Commander Wharton.
Instead of fleeing, June and Nick take a risky detour—craving time alone. But back at Nick’s house, they walk into a trap: Wharton is waiting. As Wharton moves to have Nick arrested, Nick makes a desperate play. In a stunning end-of-episode reveal, we learn he’s turned over Mayday’s entire plot to bomb Jezebels—with all the commanders inside.

Meanwhile, June seeks refuge with the last person she should trust: Serena Joy. Their uneasy peace holds—barely. Serena allows June to stay the night, a brief moment of calm before chaos returns. When Nick later arrives with plans for them to flee to Paris, Wharton follows close behind. June and Nick hide, but she soon overhears Nick’s devastating betrayal.
In this week’s podcast, we unpack:

Lawrence’s shifting loyalties

June and Nick’s dangerous choices

The complex, ever-evolving bond between June and Serena

And what Nick’s betrayal means for the resistance—and for June’s heart

Escaping Gilead! The Handmaid's Tale Podcast (Episode 605)
THE HANDMAID'S TALE Season 6 Episode 5 - “Janine” - June and Moira go undercover. Serena and Nick make consequential choices. (Disney/Steve Wilkie)SAMIRA WILEY, MADELINE BREWER, ELISABETH MOSS
Episode 5, “Janine,” delivers an intense, high-stakes hour as our characters inch deeper into danger with every move. In this week’s podcast, Paul and Caroline break down the chaos, consequences, and shifting alliances.

June and Moira are back in the field, attempting a “dry run” infiltration of Jezebels. They do manage to meet with Janine and pass along vital information—but their personal friction throws a wrench in the timing. When they’re forced to kill a predatory guardian and cover it up, things spiral fast. By the time they return to their rendezvous point, Luke has been threatened and driven off by another guardian. Now June and Moira are trapped inside Jezebels—with no clear way out.

Their only salvation comes in the form of a chance run-in with Commander Lawrence, who unexpectedly clears a path for their escape. But the damage is done: Luke’s original plans are ruined, and June and Moira are still stuck in Gilead.
Elsewhere, Nick handles his own grim task—finishing the job he started in no man’s land. One of the guardians from the escape has survived, and loose ends aren’t something Nick can afford.
Meanwhile, Serena Joy receives a surprising push from Aunt Lydia: a nudge toward Commander Wharton. By episode’s end, Wharton proposes—with Serena negotiating several key terms. It's not a love story—it’s a power move.

In this episode of the podcast, we dive into the shifting power dynamics, the costs of personal conflict in a resistance movement, and Janine’s continuing importance to the emotional heart of the series.
