Key Notes - The U.S. Labor Department stated on Thursday of last week that U.S. workers filed an additional 1.18 million jobless claims, bringing the total job losses since the Coronavirus pandemic to 53.2 million. - Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 1.8 million jobs in July, and the unemployment rate fell to 10.2 percent. - President Trump signed four executive orders Saturday aimed at delivering relief to Americans struggling with the economic fallout of the virus. - Rail traffic continued to deteriorate along North America’s routes in week 31 and was down 10.2% year over year. - The DOW closed higher on Friday, up 46.5 points (+ 0.17%) to finish out the week at 27,433.48. The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled on Wednesday of last week that the Dakota Access Pipeline does not have to be shut and drained. - As of August 1st, the total number of cars in storage is 504,043, representing a decline of 22,427 (-4.26%) month over month and an increase of 163,055 (47.8%) from this time last year. Natural gas-fired generation in the Lower 48 states increased nearly 55,000 gigawatt hours (GWh), up 9%, in the first half of 2020 compared with the first half of 2019. * President Trump had a press conference on Saturday with some good news on the economy, citing that retail spending is at an all-time high, auto production has surged 28%, used car sales are robust, Nasdaq is at an all-time high, China is buying lots of U.S. grown farm products and industrial production is increasing at the highest rate ever.
