It was 2018 and we received orders to JBPHH in Hawaii. To say our PCS here was stressful is an UNDERSTATEMENT.
Everyone we talked to from our "sponsors" and current unit all had conflicting information and PCS advice. We had to move our pets, ship an extra car, break a lease early, find somewhere to live, go through EFMP process, extremely downsize and ship our things, and to top it off I would be 7 months pregnant at arrival.
Everything that could go wrong pretty much went wrong. We ended up being THOUSANDS of dollars out of pocket because of the wrong advice given.
Whenever we had questions it felt like pulling teeth to get any kind of an answer or we were made to feel like idiots for asking.
We didn't get our hard orders until less than a week from our report no later date . We got packed up and moved on Christmas Eve and sent to a hotel. We spent Christmas and new vears in a hotel until we arrived and had to move into our empty new home.
NO ONE told us about loaner furniture and the government shut down so we didn't receive our things until 12 weeks later. I lived in an empty home and slept on an air mattress until a week before I gave birth.
After I gave birth and finally started to settle into our new home I made it my mission to educate myself on the PCS process to Hawaii.
I became a Key Spouse, a Sponsor, the president of the base spouses club and learned everything I could about how to help others avoid what we went through.
