When The Wolf saw that Jason Bonham was bringing his Led Zeppelin Evening to town he was interested but a little skeptical. Though John Bonham's oldest child is now a grandfather himself with four decades of experience, I didn't know what kind of show it would be. Turns out not only has Jason assembled an incredible band that can truly do justice to Led Zeppelin classics but Jason gives us a glimpse into his brief time with his dad.
As MC between songs, Bonham helps keep the crowd loose with his laid back persona and sly humor which keeps the fans engaged. Sharing stories about John and also fanboying with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (they had to limit him to 2 Zeppelin questions a day during the Celebration Day rehearsals) give the audience what they want - direct connection to the men who made this incredible music.
And the band are fantastic. James Dylan (Vocals, acoustic) can hit some of those classic Plant notes while Alex Howland provides part of the John Paul Jones roll on keys and acoustic. The other half is Dorian Heartsong on bass/mandolin - all of them are brilliant players. But Jimmy Sakurai has taken on the essence of Jimmy Page with his hair, clothing, movements and equipment. He not only looks the part but he's got the tracks down and it makes for a fun night of Led Zeppelin - a night where they celebrate Physical Graffiti at 50 by playing the whole thing!
After Custard Pie and The Rover, they played the songs out of order with Jason dipping in and out to share his own stories of learning to love Led Zeppelin and other music of his generation (Stewart Copeland is way better than you Dad!). During the acoustic set they all sit on the drum riser and Jason tells us why they used to give Bonzo a tambourine for the acoustic Zep sets. From there they build to a crescendo using all the power the 1975 double album had to offer, ending with one John Bonham co-wrote by telling Jimmy dunna-dunna dun, click, dunna-dunna dun, click, dunna-dunna dun, click, dunna-dunna dun.
Don't be skeptical - know that this a fun night for Zeppelin fans with great stories to go along with epic music you can't get live anywhere else these days. If you can see them, GO!!

In this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we’re going all the way back to the beginning of rock and roll – and our back catalogue – by taking another look at Sun Records.
In January 1950, Sam Phillips and his assistant Mario Keisker opened a small recording studio in a former auto glass repair shop in Memphis, Tennessee and the rest is rock and roll history. Sun Records brought us the first rock and roll song Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats. They also introduced the world to Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and more.
We’re going to talk about the history of Sun Records and Sam Phillips, the roster of amazing artists that recorded there, and the impact it had on music forever. Let’s roll. Or as Johnny Cash would say, “get rhythm.”

On the 70th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, former MTV VJ, TV and radio host, Matt Pinfield review the 1992 Alice In Chains album, "Dirt."
Grunge was in full effect by the time Dirt was released. This album cemented Alice In Chains as a leader. Singer Layne Staley continued his incredible, unique vocals and added songwriting as well. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell wrote most of lyrics and began to sing more and showed more of his innovative riffs and guitar style. Mike Starr on bass and Sean Kinney on drums formed one of the best rhythm sections.
Dirt made it to #6 on Billboard album charts and eventually went 5 times platinum. They released 5 singles and 5 videos as well.
The album is considered a classic and one of the best albums of the 1990's and the grunge era.
This was the Tom's pick and the second Alice In Chains album reviewed on ARC.
So get out of rehab and grab some flannel and crank this album!

Love, lust, and heartbreak are the secret soundtrack of the LA canyons.
In this episode of My Rock Moment we welcome Emmeline Summerton of Instagram's Lost Canyons LA, a historian of the LA Canyons and former writer of the New Topanga Times. Together we trace that soundtrack through eight songs — uncovering the romance, the messiness and the broken hearts behind the lyrics.
We start with “Guinnevere,” David Crosby’s mysterious song inspired by 3 women — Christine Hinton, Joni Mitchell, and the surprising third muse, “Delta Lady” — Leon Russell’s ode to Rita Coolidge and the wild, studio-to-road romance that sent them straight into Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs tour. Then we move to the Mamas & the Papas’ “Go Where You Wanna Go,” a sunny single born from the band’s very messy affairs.
From there: “Our House,” Graham Nash’s tiny, perfect snapshot of life with Joni Mitchell in Laurel Canyon — ordinary moments made into a classic. Then Joni’s own “All I Want’ about her relationship with James Taylor. We’ll also unpack “Leather and Lace,” the duet that reunited Stevie Nicks and Don Henley after a broken romance and leer jet flirtations; “Faithless Love,” J.D. Souther’s devastating ballad given wings by Linda Ronstadt during their fraught romance and end with Neil Young’s "A Man Needs a Maid" off of Harvest.
This is a tour of romance and ruin, tenderness and betrayal — the songs that turned private heartbreak into something the rest of us could sing along to. We’ll share the stories behind each track and the music that made the canyons heartbreak famous.

We’re in a New York State of Mind. Sure, L.A. has beaches and sun, San Francisco clings onto its peace and love vibes, Chicago oozes the blues, and these make for remarkable settings for great songs, but New York…New York is something different. She’s an active participant in the music, the protagonist, the antagonist, a vessel for vibrancy, romance, drama, grit, grime, decay, revitalization, glamour, hope. The American dream. From street corner doo woo groups to Bleeker Street folkies to CBGB punks to Brooklyn indie rock hopefuls, New York has long had a story to tell through the eyes, minds, and voices of the artists who chronicle her, some of whom are intrinsically intertwined with heartbeat of the city. One of the finest ever to do it is undoubtedly the man we are fortunate enough to call our Third Lad. After coming up in the New York folk clubs of the early '70s and the punk clubs of the latter half of the decade, Willie Nile released his self titled debut album on Arista in 1980 to rave reviews, with Stereo Review naming it the album of the year right alongside The Clash’s London Calling also earning him a handpicked slot opening for The Who on their 1980 U.S. tour. After two more major label records, Willie has released a series of acclaimed indie releases, including 2006’s Streets Of New York, 2013’s American Ride, 2020’s New York At Night, and 2021’s The Day The Earth Stood Still. He’s now back with his first 15th studio album and 21st LP overall, The Great Yellow Light, a passionate, anthemic blend of thundering rockers and sensitive ballads. It’s a stellar addition to a brilliant and literate catalogue that has thrilled Willie Nile ardent fans and friends such as Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Lou Reed, Ian Hunter, Graham Parker, Lucinda Williams, and Little Steven.

We blast off into the stratosphere with Hum's 1995 masterpiece You'd Prefer An Astronaut, the Champaign, Illinois band's sonic collision of shoegaze shimmer and bone-crushing sludge metal. While MTV latched onto "Stars," the album's real treasures lie in the deep space between those radio moments—massive, swirling guitar walls courtesy of Matt Talbott and Tim Lash that feel like entire galaxies collapsing in slow motion. This is the record that proved heavy music could be beautiful, and shoegaze could absolutely crush. Strap in for lift-off.

EPYSODE 61: "MU" by MU.
Guest: Merrell Fankhauser.
Additional commentary by Uncle Herff.
This week we journey into the cosmic unknown with "MU" , the cult 1971 debut album from Merrell Fankhauser’s post-H.M.S. Bounty band, formed with ex-Captain Beefheart guitarist Jeff Cotton (aka Antennae Jimmy Semens).
With exclusive commentary from Merrell himself, we uncover the origins of the band’s name (a nod to the mythical lost continent of MU), the spiritual inspiration behind the tracks, and the band’s eventual migration to Maui in search of metaphysical truth and better vibes.
Blending desert blues, psychedelic folk, and exploratory jam-rock, "MU" is a hidden gem of the early ’70s underground, one that has quietly influenced generations of psych-heads, crate-diggers, and cosmic seekers.
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when acoustic blues, psychedelia, and esoteric mysticism collide, this epysode is your portal.
I hope you dig "MU" as much as I do.

This episode takes on a fiendish playlist challenge: Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon — The Music Edition.
The rule is simple to explain but devilish to pull off: every song in the playlist connects to the next through a shared musician collaboration — guest features, one-off duets, session players, and more. Each track comes from a different primary artist or band, all leading toward the final destination: Kevin Bacon.
Expect surprising crossovers, session-player breadcrumbs, and collaborative threads that reveal just how small — and yet connected — the music world really is. Connecting Kevin Bacon through movies might seem easy, but doing it through music? That’s a whole different level of challenge.
Thanks to Matt Kennedy of XRadioX for submitting this week’s concept! Tune in, and then let me know how you’d connect the musical dots through your Six Degrees playlist!
