Episode 17: How To Clear Your Samples (The Right Way)

In this episode, we talk about how to clear samples and why it's so important to do so - especially when it comes to owning music.

When you use samples in your music, you have to get permission from two sides of the sampled song:

  1. The Publishing (for using the actual songwriting)
  2. The Sound Recording/Master

If you don't get permission from these two sids, you're infringing on the copyrights and can end up in a messy and expensive legal situation that could cost more than the original use itself.

Do the right thing, and clear your samples before dropping music. It was save you thousands of dollars in the long run.

Episode 14: The Difference Between a PRO and a Publishing Deal (And Why You Need Both)

I get this question a lot: "If I'm signed up with ASCAP or BMI, then why do I also need to sign up with a publishing administration company?"

Or when I ask people "Are you in a publishing deal" the respond with, "Yes, I'm with ASCAP".

So I wanted to dedicate this episode to the differences between being with Performance Rights Organization (PRO) and having a publishing deal - and why you need both!

Remember, PRO's only represent your public performance right and only collect performance royalties.

Publishing deals represent ALL of your rights and collect ALL of your publishing royalties.

Tap in and make sure you fully understand the difference so you can make sure you're getting PAID IN FULL.
