In reading Peter Lynch’s classic book Learn to Earn, he makes the point how many people invest in stocks, but how few research stocks before buying. This got me thinking many investors may not have an interest in doing research on individual companies, so this seems like an opportune time to go over the basics of exchange traded funds and how an investor who is not interested in doing research can use these tools to build a sound portfolio and get broad diversification.
