The boys are back in town and this time they're talking through one of the most memorable games of footy that's ever been played. Introducing Wally Lewis, Mick Stone (friend of the podcast) and about 3 zillion cans of XXXX
Brett Plowman joins the podcast for a really down to earth chat about life and rugby league football. Great stuff
It's a big week at OOTS HQ because Jeff's favourite player and all time hero Geoff Richardson was kind enough to spend some time with your hosts and to talk through some pre Origin rugby league. Champagne moments for lovers of BRL footy.
Jeff and Steve also cover the first Origin game that took place without the King and it was a cracker.
C'mon Brisbane, together we'll show the world
The boys are going back to their BRL roots this week and they're joined by the great John Tapp of Wests, Valleys and Brothers fame. JT talks through the highs and lows of his career and his thoughts on the game today.
This 1987 decider was an absolute classic with several iconic Origin moments including that incredible tackle on O'Connor by The King. It was also Bert Kenny's last game for the blues and as usual he was outstanding.
So come on come on, do the locomotion with me......
Jeff and Steve are back and getting very excited about Origin 2024. This week they've invited some friends from around the state of Queensland to share their SOO stories.
Another episode and another treat for the hosts as Jeff and Steve are joined this week by another Origin legend, Eric Grothe Sr, to talk footy, music and where the game is headed. Along the way they inevitably discuss that incredible Parramatta backline and the 82 Kangaroo Tour.
It's that game folks. The one where Mark McGaw conspired to set back cross border relations for a few more years. It was a hell of a game for 78 minutes and Jeff and Steve were delighted to be joined for this episode by that game's referee, Mick Stone. Mick talks the boys through the match and reveals some previously well kept secrets about the last minute action.
It turns out that Mick Stone isn't just a ref of the highest calibre but he's also a bloody good guy! Who knew?
Jeff and Steve reflect on a stonking game of rugby league. Terrible result for anyone feeling maroony but high quality footy nonetheless. Lang Park was in great nick as usual, so good in fact that Peter Tunks, inventor of the game of "Contact Marbles", was rewarded with 4 points for his unusual drop-roll-smile technique across the manicured couch.
Origin Stories - Where Footy Touches Lives
Jeff and Steve are joined this week by Brad Beetson to talk about the connection between Indigenous Communities and rugby league. Is footy a force for good and if so, how does it work? Brad talks about The Murri Carnival, The Arthur Beetson Foundation Future Immortals and The QRL Indigenous Advisory Committee to name just a few of the ways he and his family are working to help create a better social landscape for everyone.
Also, as you would expect, Jeff and Steve couldn't pass up the opportunity to pester Brad with loads of questions about his Dad, the immortal Arthur Beetson.
Jeff and Steve are not just delighted and thrilled, but completely chuffed to be joined this week by Brisbane radio legend, Ian Skippen. Apart from being the voice of Brisbane, Skip is also a huge fan of footy, marinated ribs and beer and likes to combine these staples on Origin nights. You heard it here first!
Your hosts also walk through a great game of Origin football and reflect on how it might have been. If only.
Origin Stories - Where Footy Touches Lives
This is the first episode of Origin Stories, a new addition to the podcast, where Jeff and Steve along with a guest discuss the intersection of rugby league and real life.
Journalist and author Matthew Condon joins your hosts today to walk through his deep love of rugby league and proposes an explanation of how the first seeds were sown of the Queensland v New South Wales rivalry.
This week Jeff and Steve are joined by one of the finest players to ever play the game of rugby league, Brett Kenny. The result of this game might not be exactly what Jeff and Steve wanted to get all nostalgic about but there are plenty of footy stories to enjoy here from Brett and that might just take some of the sting away!
Yes, you did read that correctly. Jeff and Steve are joined this week by Aussie icon, Greg Chappell, who shares his memories of 50 years in The Sunshine State. Your hosts take the opportunity to talk with Greg about what it takes to excel at the highest levels and also discover that Greg had a front row seat when the origin concept was being discussed.
Did you know that Greg Chappell scored a try under the posts at Lang Park? Of course he did and we're not the least surprised!
Well well well. How excited do you think Jeff and Steve were to have Tony Currie join them for this episode? Tony was kind enough to share stories from before, during and after SOO and gave his match thoughts from the inside of the fence on this classic 1985 Game 2 encounter.
Jeff and Steve look back at a wet Game 1 at Lang Park, they discuss the guitar tuning on Proud Mary and they indulge in some man-love for Wally Lewis. Yes indeed, this episode has something for everyone!
How good is this? Jeff and Steve are joined by Danny McMaster to walk through stories of pubs, songs and footy. The mighty Maroons might have lost but rugby league football is the greatest game of all.
After a brief sabbatical the boys are back and thrilled to be joined this week by Queensland cricketing royalty, none other than the first Queenslander to lift the Sheffield Shield, Stuart Law. Jeff, Steve and Stu discuss a memorable SCG encounter which included "that" grab from Dowling.
How many Queenslanders can you fit on a motorbike? Your hosts have that covered and more.
Where we once watched, the rowboats landing
By the broad majestic Shannon
This week Jeff and Steve are very excited to be joined by Balmain, NSW and Australia legend Garry Jack. What was it like to run out onto Lang Park for your first taste of Origin? Did you enjoy the annual welcome from the Caxton Hotel clientele? Garry is kind enough to answer these questions and many more besides.....
It's the 1983 decider at Lang Park and Jeff and Steve were pretty happy to be there and even more happy to relive it via podcast 40 years later.
It was another Wally Lewis classic but your hosts are all about equality and are therefore effusive about everyone else not wearing sky blue.
As ever, Jeff walks us through the game and this week Steve gets a little misty about the BRL. Good times
Got the whole world shaking to my big bop beat
This week Jeff and Steve are joined by their great mate and radio legend , Dave "Mudpatch" Gibson.
Dave shares his thoughts on his time in QLD and together they reflect on stretch limo's, police corruption and Greg Norman's sloop.
As ever, they finish with a carefully considered and balanced match review which will please footy lovers on both sides of the Tweed.
How much can a Koala Bear............?
Jeff and Steve have some fun looking back at a game that seems to have provided more than its share of footage for those Origin highlights packages. Wally Lewis is MOM once more and Les Boyd signs off on his representative career by throwing his chicken wing into Brohman's jaw.
Also, what have David Bowie, Russ Hinze and bottom pinching got in common? All will be revealed folks.
Time may change me, But I can't trace time.......................
