When Ash Straw O'Malley starts digging into topics such as Yoga, The Nature of Self, and Transformation, people want to listen!
This was also my experience during this captivating interview where Ash and I were able to talk about the human condition, mind, existence itself, some ways that we find ourselves in transformation, and the realness of sorrow that can take us in and through the dark shadows, on the way to the light.
Ash displays incredible authenticity while addressing the experiences and examples of this life practice that make us human and beg for our development in awareness and toward awakening.

I met Swami Muktidharma at a bus stop on the North Island of New Zealand in 1999. I spent weeks with him at an emerging yoga retreat center that he and his partner were building and in those weeks, we had deep conversations about the mind, our existence, and life itself. He also instructed me in the esoteric practice of Yoga Nidra which has been a hallmark of personal growth for me, and professional assistance to others to address physical, mental, and emotional tensions.
Swami Mukti and I have remained friends all these years and it was a wonderful experience to interview him here and to revisit (and update) our conversations about awareness, consciousness and the experience of this life which makes us human.
Please join us on this journey of exploration, self reflection, and of course, journeying on this next episode of On Journey with Danny G.

“I am an epic character really… I mean there is Ulysses, Agamemnon, and…well…me. As far as heroes go.” —Ed Lyons. What a thing to proclaim at the wet-behind-the-ears age of just 25!! Ed and I really had the whole world ahead of us at that time, as the journey was just beginning. While we sometimes went on separate journeys, you’ll find here, significant nuggets of knowledge and wisdom as Ed and I discuss a bit of the hero’s journey, the exploration and understanding within that comes out of long term travel, and the transformation of the brash and brazen to some humility and self reflection in life’s culmination to present day.

I never expected to land in Fiji toward the end of a 15 month journey across the world. But Fiji called me through a series of love interests, beckoning island beaches, and the Fijian people who right from the start shared their generous hearts and warm homes with me and my companion as we drank kava and ate our way through this island nation with gusto!

Did you ever have a dream that so far outweighed what you thought was possible that you sometimes tried not to dream it because it was just too painful? I had a dream like that, and it was to go to Nepal and trek through some of the most striking, stark, at times desolate, and timeless, high altitude terrain that the world has ever known.

It was 1999 and I entered a country where few budget travelers were found. With little to no infrastructure for tourism, this adventure was largely created through curiosity, seizing opportunity and creative improvisation.

The contrast of the bustling, over-crowded, dynamic, tourist-thronged city of Bangkok against the backdrop of the Thai Smile and iconic beaches make this adventure one for the books! One night turned into a 3-4 month journey that took me from the depths of city life, teaching English to locals, to the hills of a tribal Lahu Village in the north and of course, across the beautiful, wind-swept islands on all sides of this beautiful nation. In this episode, I explore the beginnings of discovery in my learning alternative modes of healing and wellness --I threw myself into the mix, dreaming of a future that might contain some of what I was learning.

I have $400 for 4 months' worth of travel. "Is that a wooden sign that says D.J.?", I ask as I disembark the overnight ferry to Santorini? That job was arguably better than washing cars and sanding houses in the mountains but in retrospect—it's all part of the adventure! Beautiful Greece with its incredible beaches, dynamic night- life, and ancient culture never disappoints and it certainly didn’t on this epic, shoestring journey.
