This is a Message by Ps. David Schembri From week 5 of our series Hebrews: Jesus is Greater.
Welcome to the Newlife podcast! We’re so glad that you could join us. Newlife is one family with many churches located in Brisbane, Coolangatta, Coomera, Moreton Bay, Robina, and online and we exist to see more people more like Jesus by planting and leading thriving local churches.
This week we continue our series Hebrews: Jesus Is Greater with a message titled “Jesus the Greater Rest.” From Hebrews 4:1–11, we’re reminded that God’s promise of rest is still available — not a rest from work, but a rest found in Him. Ps David Schembri unpacks two key truths: Rest is Still Available and Rest is in Him. In a world marked by hurry and striving, this passage calls us to enter the deep, soul-level rest that only Jesus can provide. Be encouraged to trust, abide, and find true peace in His presence.
We pray that this message is a blessing.
We’d love to hear from you!

Through Jesus, we find a salvation far greater than we could ever earn and a Saviour who identifies with our humanity to bring us freedom and hope. Be encouraged to hold firm to the gospel and fix your eyes on Jesus, our victorious and compassionate Saviour.
We pray that this message is a blessing.

Each week we’ll uncover how this powerful letter calls us to deeper faith, steadfast hope, and enduring confidence in Christ, who is the author and perfecter of our faith.
This week we’re joined by Rev Michael Hands as we continue our Journeying Through Hebrews series with a message titled “Jesus Is Greater Than the Angels.” From Hebrews 1:4–14, we see that Jesus has a greater Name, a greater Relationship, deserves greater Worship, and holds a greater Role. Through this passage, we’re reminded that Jesus is not simply another messenger but the very Son of God—worthy of all honour, praise, and devotion. Be encouraged to lift your eyes and worship the One who reigns above all.

This week we begin our new series, Journeying Through Hebrews, with a powerful message titled “Jesus the Greater Prophet.” From Hebrews 1:1–3, Ps David Schembri unpacks three key truths — Jesus is the greater Word, the greater Representative, and the greater Outcome. In Him, we see the fullness of God revealed and the ultimate hope for humanity fulfilled. Be encouraged to fix your eyes on Jesus, the One who speaks, represents, and accomplishes God’s perfect will for our lives.

This week Ps. David Schembri concludes our Nehemiah series with a message from chapter 13, “Renewal is a Partnership with God.” After the walls are rebuilt and worship restored, Nehemiah reminds the people that renewal is not a one-time event but a daily partnership with God. It’s about continually aligning our hearts, habits, and communities with His purposes. Be encouraged to walk closely with God, staying faithful to the work He’s begun in you and through you.

Ps David Schembri brings a powerful word from Nehemiah 8:1–12. We see how true renewal always leads us back to Scripture, as God’s people gather to hear His Word and respond with joy and worship. Their tears are turned into strength, and their sorrow into celebration, as they discover that “the joy of the Lord is our strength.” Be encouraged to rediscover the life, hope, and freedom that comes from building your life on the Word of God.

This week Ps Scott Wrigley continues our Nehemiah series with a powerful message from chapter 9. In this passage, we see how true renewal always leads to repentance, as God’s people respond to His Word with confession, humility, and worship. Their story reminds us that repentance is not about shame, but about returning to the God who restores, renews, and calls us back to Himself. Be encouraged to open your heart to His Spirit and allow Him to lead you into lasting transformation.

In this powerful message, Ps. David Schembri unpacks Nehemiah 5 to reveal how true spiritual renewal must go beyond personal revival—it must impact how we live in community. As Nehemiah confronts economic injustice and calls God’s people to repentance and reform, we’re reminded that faith is not just private, but deeply social. Discover how God uses renewed hearts to bring about justice, generosity, and lasting transformation in society.
Whether you're rebuilding your life, your family, or your city—this episode challenges us to align our faith with action and become agents of change in the world around us.

Renewal Assumes Opposition – Nehemiah 4
In this episode, we dive into Nehemiah 4, where the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall meets fierce resistance. As soon as God's people begin the work of renewal, the opposition rises. From ridicule and mockery to threats and conspiracy, Nehemiah and the people of Israel face discouragement on every side.
But here's the truth: any time you step into God's work of renewal—in your life, your community, your church—you should expect resistance. The enemy never stands by quietly when restoration begins.
Through this chapter, we uncover key principles on how to respond when spiritual opposition shows up:
If you’re in a season of rebuilding—emotionally, spiritually, or physically—this chapter is a powerful reminder: resistance is not a sign you’re off track; it’s often proof that you’re right where God wants you.

This week in our Nehemiah series, Bek Stevens dives into chapters 2 and 3 with the message “Holy Discontent: Lord, Break Our Hearts for What Breaks Yours.” Nehemiah’s burden for his people moved him to action, reminding us that true transformation begins when we allow God’s concerns to shape our own. Together we’ll see how the many members of one body—each with unique gifts and roles—are called to rise up and build God’s Kingdom in unity and faith.

In this episode, Ps. David Schembri dives into Nehemiah 2 and discover how vision, trust, and God’s unfailing love intersect. Nehemiah shows us that fear can drain the wind from our sails, but faith in God breathes courage and clarity into our calling. We’ll explore how God provides in unexpected ways, gives more than we could imagine, and pours out His goodness from His unfailing love.
Join us as we unpack how Nehemiah’s boldness before the king wasn’t rooted in confidence in himself, but in trust in the God who opens doors no one else can shut.
