We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.

Born and raised in San Diego, CA, Azucena is a self-advocate with Cerebral Palsy and a communications professional with over 10 years of experience in Communications/Public Relations.
She is the daughter of Mexican immigrants who did not speak English at the time they received Azucena's diagnosis, which left them with many questions but very few resources in Spanish to understand how this diagnosis would affect her in the future. Thanks to this, Azucena learned the importance of having resources available in multiple languages, and she learned to advocate for herself and others with disabilities from an early age. Growing up, she became keenly aware of the beauty, barriers, and challenges of having a developmental disability in a world that has not always been welcoming to her needs and those of others with disabilities.
This insight and first-hand experience motivate her to find policy solutions that address the systemic challenges that people with disabilities face when trying to access housing, employment, and other resources.
Azucena graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Communications and Political Science from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Over the span of her 10+ year career she has worked with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), NBC, SEIU California State Council and the Center for Policy Initiatives (CPI) in San Diego.
She is a very active member of her community and board member of organizations such as the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) and California Policy Center for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (CPCIDD)
In her free time, Azucena enjoys reading, walking, taking photos, traveling, spending time with her parents and hosting her podcast Parálisis Cerebral Respuestas (Cerebral Palsy Answers) where she interviews doctors and top specialists in the field of CP in Spanish to raise awareness about Cerebral Palsy among the Spanish speaking community. Above all, she tries her best to live by her motto: "What we do for ourselves dies with us, but what we do for others remains immortal.

In September 2023, Able & Available came into existence, born out of a heartfelt conversation among mothers facing a shared challenge. The inspiration behind the creation emerged from the collective experiences of moms navigating the unique struggles encountered when their children with disabilities transitioned into adulthood. This crucial juncture sparked the vision for Able & Available, dedicated to addressing the specific needs of individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of meaningful opportunities. Their history is rooted in the genuine desire to make a positive impact, turning shared challenges into a catalyst for positive change.

A born leader, Lee-Anne has really stepped into this role as the Founder and CEO of a health and fitness membership that is taking the world by storm. Starting with a 20+ year career supporting people with disabilities in a variety of capacities and moving to open a brick and mortar yoga studio, Lee-Anne's big vision for helping people was still unclear. As she pivoted to a virtual platform through the pandemic, an opportunity to work with organizations in offering wellness options to their employees emerged and Lee-Anne was eager to learn. Lee-Anne saw barriers in accessing movement she could remove for people with disabilities and opportunities to bring people with and without disabilities together (community - something our entire world is looking for). Lee-Anne is a true creative, a strategic expert, a big thinker, and she will encourage you to do and be the same. Now a sought after speaker, a wellness expert, a disruptor in the fitness industry and a thought leader, Lee-Anne is excited to see where Sekond Skin Society will take her next.

Throughout her life Leonka Kaluha has battled adversity in the form of bullying and judgment - simply for being herself. Despite these hardships, she continues to challenge herself to be the best she can be and getting involved with Special Olympics was her first step.
After turning 18, Leonka registered for 5-pin bowling and swimming with Special Olympics Alberta – Calgary because she wanted to make new friends and stay active. She hasn’t looked back since.
For Leonka, gaining confidence and loving herself have been her biggest challenges, but she has worked hard to overcome them. Now, she has a challenge for the world: to make inclusion second nature and for people to respect athletes, including herself, for their abilities, not disability.

Lionel Migrino is an advocate and local photographer who identifies himself as a Filipinx Canadian living with cerebral palsy. Due to his intersecting identities, he understands that the world is not made for people like him. Photography has given him a voice and a platform to showcase how the world is through his lens. Lionel not only uses his talents to amplify his voice, but he also uses it to give a voice to the voiceless. He has participated in several community storytelling projects and recently was one of the artists featured in the documentary series Hiraya.
His goal in life is not only to spread awareness of inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and justice but to empower action toward change.
