Liza Treyger is not ready to make nice. The hilarious and inimitable Liza Treygers joins Devon on the show this week as the two identify their go-to karaoke songs, explain their personal connections to The Dixie Chicks, and to break down an Ava Max lyric that resonates heavily with Liza.  Named one of Variety’s “Top Ten Comics to Watch,” Rolling Stone’s “Ten Comics to Watch,” Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch” and a comic who 'shines where sex and politics intersect’ by The New York Times, actress, comedian and podcast extraordinaire Liza Treyger has become known in the industry for the characters she has brought to life on screen, along with her biting, smart jokes that dance around hot button topics including sexism, feminism, and religion. It’s Not That Deep with Lexa Gates
Musician and multi-hyphenate Lexa Gates sits down with Devon for her first-ever podcast to show her appreciation for Ice Spice’s lyrics, explain the personal meaning behind her music, and to reveal the inner workings of her secret IG spam account. Lexa Gates, the Colombian-Puerto Rican artist from Queens, has carved out a singular lane with her intoxicating blend of R&B and rap. After leaving school at 15 and teaching herself to record at home, she has since built a full-fledged career and quickly gained recognition for her distinct sound. Her 2024 debut album Elite Vessel charted on Billboard, featured collaborations with Zelooperz and Billy Lemos, and earned praise from Rolling Stone (“Artist You Need to Know”) and Complex (“one of the best under-the-radar rap albums of 2024”). That same year, Gates staged a 10-hour performance art installation in New York City that went viral with over 300 million views, sold out her first headline tour, and debuted at festivals including Outside Lands, Capitol Hill Block Party, and London’s Jazz Café Festival. She’s since become a KITH campaign star, delivered a standout Amy Winehouse cover for Apple Music, and earned “Artist to Watch” nods from Billboard, People, and Hypebeast, alongside co-signs from SZA, Aminé, and Isaiah Rashad. With her sophomore album I Am, Gates channels the raw emotional intensity of Fiona Apple, Amy Winehouse, and Lana Del Rey, pairing slick-talking candor with siren-like vocals that wrestle with love, obsession, and desire. As Billboard put it, she’s “one of the can’t-miss emerging artists coming out of NYC.” Host and Executive Producer: Devon Walker Executive Producer: Lauren Mandel Associate Producer: Carmen Carigan Engineer: Chris Mueller Editor: Nicole Lyons Have a favorite lyric you want to share? Ticket to the Cookout with Cupid
You know The Cupid Shuffle. Now meet the guy who made it. Devon and Cupid get into how a line dance becomes a movement, how his time on The Voice really went down, and what it takes to earn a ticket to the Linedance King's cookout. Hailing from Lafayette, Louisiana, Cupid is the undisputed King of Line Dance. With his soulful voice and infectious dance tracks, he has made the world move for years. Starting his musical journey in church and local talent shows, he released his first local hit, “Do Yo Thang,” in 2001. In 2006, Cupid recorded “The Cupid Shuffle,” which became a viral sensation and a dancefloor staple. Signed to Atlantic Records in 2007, he released his national debut album Time for a Change. “The Cupid Shuffle” remains one of the most iconic dance songs in music history. After leaving Atlantic, Cupid continued to build his catalog with fan favorites like “Love Slide,” “Do It With Your Boots On,” “Old School,” and “Wham Dance.” His crossover appeal has earned him fans across country, Southern soul, hip hop, pop, and dance music genres, helping spread line dance culture worldwide. Post-pandemic, he returned strong with the viral hit “FLEX,” nearing Gold certification. Recent releases like “The Cookout” and “Down South Shuffle” continue his legacy. A certified 5x Platinum recording artist, Cupid has led campaigns for Walmart and McDonald’s, and his music has been featured in Step Up 2, Jumping the Broom, Nancy Drew, and numerous other films and shows. Cupid’s new album, “Thr Linedance King,” is out now. Built Like A Vape Pen with Coco & Clair Clair
Atlanta-based musical duo Coco & Clair Clair crack open a bottle of wine with Devon on the pod this week as they decode a Winnie the Pooh reference in a Young Thug song, discuss some suspect behavior on Facebook, and dive into the lore of Claire’s face showing up on Playboi Carti’s lockscreen. Coco & Clair Clair joke that if their debut album, 2021’s Sexy, was a baby boy, then their 2024 album Girl is, well, a baby girl. The Atlanta-based duo, who mix hip-hop with lo-fi dream pop and glimmering electronic production, have gained acclaim over the past few years for their effortless charm and winking braggadocio.
On tracks like their viral hit “Pretty,” the Clairo and Deaton Chris Anthony collaboration “RACECAR,” and “Wishy Washy,” which was featured on the show Atlanta, the duo coolly dismiss the boring men who want to date them, talk shit about people who copy them, and luxuriate in being the life of the party. That kind of unfiltered confidence is often associated with male musicians, but Coco & Clair Clair’s music is also lush, vulnerable, and intimate. On Girl, they push that tension between stereotypically male and stereotypically female attributes further than ever before, with newly confessional lyrics, polished production, and the same verve that has always defined their work. Girl is a thrilling, poignant album that shows just how multifaceted girlhood and femininity can be.
