Episode 107: Annie Irvine
Episode 107: Annie Irvine

This week Emma brings us a lesser known case from 1974, the killing of 57-year-old Grandmother Annie Irvine, in Paisley.
Emma tells us of the impact the case had on locals, who described being 'sickened' by the crime, and some of those involved in the investigation, who described the killing as 'repulsive' and 'gruesome'.
We hear how, despite the brutality of the killing, there are few available reports on the case from the time and how, despite a large scale manhunt, there was limited progress in the case.
Emma details how the case has been periodically reviewed in an attempt to utilise modern forensic methods to gain new insights in to the killing and, hopefully, deliver justice for Annie.

Episode 104: Isabella Kerr & Mary Jane Rogerson

Episode 104: Isabella Kerr & Mary Jane Rogerson

This week Joannagh tells us of the tragic murders of Isabella Kerr and Mary Jane Rogerson; two women who died at the hands of a jealous, possessive, deeply insecure man, whose continued unspiralling behaviour - left unchecked - led to the ultimate crime.

We hear about the comprehensive and thorough police investigation, and the several ground breaking techniques established during the intensive investigation which would change the approach to policing and forensics forever.

Joannagh and Emma also discuss the attitudes of the time, where domestic abuse was not viewed through the same lens, and recount some of their own experiences of domestic abuse.

Episode 102: Margaret Fleming

This week Joannagh tells us the story of Margaret Fleming, a vulnerable young woman, believed to have been murdered some time between 18 December 1999 and 5 January 2000.
We hear how the trial for the murder of Margaret Fleming was groundbreaking, as it was featured in a BBC documentary titled ‘Murder Trial’ and was the first time a documentary crew had been permitted access to record the proceedings of a high court murder trial.
Joannagh also tells us of the learning disabilities that made Margaret such a vulnerable person, and how access to her disability benefits may have been a key motive in the crime.

Episode 98: Mary Speir Gunn
Episode 98: Mary Speir Gunn.
This week Joannagh brings us a mystery dating all the way back to 1913, the case of Mary Speir Gunn.
We hear how, in October 1913, Mary and her family were relaxing in their secluded cottage home when suddenly a hail of bullets tore through the room, hitting all members of the family, Mary fatally so.
We hear how, despite some conclusions being drawn from evidence at the scene, the lack of strong forensics at the time meant a degree of guesswork was involved in the investigation.
Joannagh describes the leads that were ultimately followed in the case, some stretching as far as Saskatchewan, Canada, as well as some of the more imaginative theories put forward by investigators at the time.

Murder She Spoke
Murder She Spoke is a weekly true crime victim-focused podcast covering Scottish cases.

Hosted by Emma and Joannagh who hail from Scotland, each week we discuss a new case with empathy and sensitivity. We strive to shine a light on unsolved cases, in the hope that keeping these victims at the forefront of people's minds may contribute to a conclusion for victim's families.

We give true crime recommendations at the beginning of each episode and discuss cases afterwards, focusing on the psychology of the perpetrator(s).

Each episode is ended on a light-hearted note with a crime related tidbit or anecdote.
