Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse Review
We are back in the cinema for our animated adventure Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse Review. The second part in the Spider-Verse trilogy we loved the style, characters and heart. We discuss all of our favourite moments from the movie in our latest podcast. Synopsis for our Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse Review Characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko Written by: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Dave Callaham Directed by: Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson Sixteen months after the destruction of the Alchemax collider and back on Earth-65 Gwen Stacy is struggling to live up to the expectations of her father, who does not know she is Spider-Woman and is hunting her in revenge because of his belief that she caused this universe's Peter Parker's death. One night, after hearing about a possible intruder in the Guggenheim Museum, she heads over to confront the threat, only to run into a Renaissance-themed Vulture that comes from an alternate universe. She is helped by Miguel O'Hara and Jessica Drew, who arrive through portals and subdue Vulture. In the aftermath, Gwen reveals herself to her father, who is distraught and attempts to arrest her. Drew suggests to a reluctant O'Hara that Gwen join the "Spider-Society," to which he begrudgingly accepts. Back on Earth-1610, in Brooklyn, Miles Morales is adapting to being Spider-Man as well as struggling to live up to his parents' expectations while missing Gwen. On the day of his evaluation at school with his parents, he visits a convenience store where he encounters the low-level villain The Spot, a scientist who got infused with portals on his body in the aftermath of the explosion of the collider at Alchemax. After a brief fight, Miles subdues The Spot. But The Spot, who is being surveilled by Gwen, is not all that he appears as he blames Miles for his creation. He brings Miles to Alchemax, where he transports himself into a void and begins using his portals to travel to other universes with the Alchemax collider becoming more and more powerful as he states his aim to take revenge on his nemesis Miles Morales. While on Earth-1610 Gwen sees Miles but tracking The Spot is instructed that Miles can’t travel with them to capture The Spot. They take a portal back to Earth-928 where they lead the Spider Society to continue their investigation. But unbeknownst to them, Miles follows them into the portal and ends up in Mumbattan on Earth-50101, they encounter Pavitr Prabhakar / Spider-Man India and Hobie Brown / Spider-Punk before confronting The Spot in the Alchemax collider who successfully absorbs the device's power before escaping. Mumbattan begins falling apart from the disruption of a "canon event" after Miles saves a captain, who turns out to be Prabhakar's girlfriend's father. At the headquarters on Earth-928, where hundreds of Spider-Man variants reside Miguel O'Hara, tells Miles that he is risking the destruction of the multiverse, by preventing "canon" events that hold the fabric of the multiverse together, and that all Spider-Men must suffer sacrifices to maintain a stable multiverse. Realising that his own father, newly appointed as captain, will die at the hands of The Spot and is a canon event, Miles breaks free of the Spider Society, heading back to his home world to save his father. Arriving back in what he thinks is his apartment, Miles realises that something is not right about this Earth that places him and his father in dire straits. Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3 Review
We return to the cinema with The Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3, the thirty second movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The final movie in the trilogy and James Gunn's final movie for Marvel before he moves to the Distinguished Competition. We chat all about the movie in our latest podcast. Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3 Synopsis for our Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3 Movie Review with the help of Wikipedia Written and Directed by: James Gunn At their new headquarters on Knowhere, the Guardians of the Galaxy are attacked by Adam Warlock, a Sovereign warrior created by their high priestess Ayesha. After Adam overpowers them and seriously wounds Rocket, he is stabbed by Nebula and forced to flee. The Guardians are unable to tend to Rocket's wounds due to a kill switch, made by the company Orgocorp, embedded in him. To save their friend the Guardians travel to Orgocorp's headquarters to find the override code. As Rocket lies unconscious, he recalls his past. As a baby raccoon, he was experimented on by the High Evolutionary, a scientist who sought to enhance animal lifeforms into anthropomorphic species to create a "Perfect" Counter-Earth. Rocket befriended the other test subjects: an otter called Lylla, the walrus Teefs, and the rabbit named Floor. Of all the test subjects the High Evolutionary was impressed by Rocket's intelligence but furious when it exceeded his own. Perfecting the anthropomorphization process with Rocket's advice he orders Rocket's brain to be extracted and his friends incinerated. Rocket, realising he and his friends were not part of the High Evolutionary’s perfect world, frees himself and his friends, but Lylla, Reefs and Floor but are killed in the escape by the High Evolutionary. Rocket, enraged, mauls the High Evolutionary and shoots his guards, as he makes his solitary escape in a spaceship. In the present, the alternate version of Gamora, who has joined the Ravagers, helps the Guardians infiltrate Orgocorp, which is owned by the High Evolutionary. They retrieve Rocket's file, but discover that the code has been removed. The group speculates that Theel, one of the High Evolutionary's recorders, has it, so they depart for Counter-Earth. They are followed by Ayesha and Adam, who are ordered by their creator, the High Evolutionary, to retrieve Rocket for his brain. Upon arriving on Counter Earth, the team is helped by residents in tracing Theel to the High Evolutionary's ship. Drax and Mantis remain with Gamora and Rocket as Peter Quill, Groot, and Nebula travel to the ship. Nebula is forced to wait outside by guards as Quill and Groot board. Drax and Mantis chase after Quill's group. The High Evolutionary initiates his destruction and planned recreation of Counter-Earth, which kills all life on the planet, including Ayesha. As his ship enters orbit, Quill and Groot leap off with Theel, retrieving the code from him. Gamora arrives with their ship to rescue them, while Nebula, Mantis, and Drax board the High Evolutionary's ship to rescue the now-absent Quill and Groot. As Quill's group attempts to access the code, Rocket flatlines and has a near death experience, where he sees Lylla, Teefs, and Floor. Lylla tells him that his time has not yet come as Quill uses the code to disable the kill switch and save Rocket's life. Nebula, Mantis, and Drax come across hundreds of imprisoned humanoid children on the High Evolutionary's ship before being captured. Quill's group sets out to rescue the three, who are placed in a chamber with monstrous Abilisks. Mantis befriends the Abilisks, allowing the group to escape and reunite with Quill's group, together overpowering the High Evolutionary's army. Kraglin and Cosmo arrive on Knowhere, and Cosmo creates a telekinetic tunnel connecting Knowhere to the High Evolutionary's ship to free the captured children. Rocket discovers imprisoned animals on the ship before being attacked by the High Evolutionary, but the rest of the Guardians help subdue him, leaving him to perish on his ship. The Guardians rescue the animals and lead them aboard Knowhere. Quill nearly dies trying to cross over but is saved by Adam, who had a change of heart after being saved by Groot. In the aftermath, Quill leaves the Guardians, bestowing the captaincy to Rocket before leaving for Earth to reunite with his grandfather Jason. Mantis embarks on a journey of self-discovery with the Abilisks, Gamora reunites with the Ravagers, and Nebula and Drax remain on Knowhere to raise the rescued children. In a mid-credits scene, the new Guardians, consisting of Rocket, a fully-grown Groot, Cosmo, Kraglin, Adam, Phyla-Vell (one of the rescued children), and Adam's pet Blurp, take on a new mission. In a post-credits scene, Quill eats breakfast with his grandfather Jason. As Gorr rampages across the galaxy exacting his revenge on Gods, his next target is New Asgard that brings him into the crosshairs of Thor the God of Thunder. Thor arrives in New Asgard just as Gorr attacks using the power of the sword to manipulate shadows and produce monsters. In the heat of battle Thor is surprised to find Dr Jane Foster wielding Mjolnir, after Mjolnir had reforged and bonded itself to a dying Jane Foster due to an enchantment Thor had unknowingly placed on it many years earlier to protect Dr Foster.

He teams up with her, Valkyrie, and Korg and fights Gorr from New Asgard, but as he escapes, Gorr kidnaps several Asgardian children and imprisons them in the Shadow Realm. Synopsis for our Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness Movie Review

Directed by: Sam Raimi

Written by: Michael Waldron

Based on characters by - Steve Ditko and Stan Lee

Chased by a demon in the space between universes while searching for the Book of Vishanti, America Chavez has a power that the demon wants. Both Chavez and Defender Strange are unable to escape. With Chavez captured by the demon, and with Strange injured and weakened, she will die if her power is extracted from her by the demon. Seeing no alternative, Defender Strange’s only option is to take the power himself, killing Chavez. But Strange is killed and Chavez accidentally creates a portal with her power that transports her and Strange's corpse to Earth-616, where Doctor Stephen Strange and the Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, rescue Chavez from a rune studded octopus demon.

Recognizing the runes on the demon, Strange consults Wanda Maximoff for help, but he realizes that she is responsible for the attacks. After acquiring the Darkhold and becoming the Scarlet Witch, Maximoff believes that controlling Chavez's powers will allow her to reunite with her children Billy and Tommy, taken from another universe, after she lost them in Westview.

Strange refuses to surrender Chavez to Wanda, and she unleashes the Scarlet Witch against Kamar-Taj, killing many sorcerers. As she hunts Chavez in the ruins of Kamar-Taj, Chavez with no control of her power once again accidentally transports herself and Strange to Earth-838. Wanda uses the Darkhold to pursue Strange and Chavez by "dream-walking". She takes control of her Earth-838 counterpart, but is thwarted by a surviving sorceress in Kamar Taj who sacrifices herself to destroy the Darkhold and break the dream-walk. Enraged, Maximoff forces Wong to lead her to Mount Wundagore, a forbidden ancient ruin, to reestablish the dream-walk.

While searching for help and trying to stop the Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange realises his counterparts in other universes have taken many different trajectories, but in each one he realises that his feelings for Christine Palmer have been the same. As Stephen, America and Christine escape Earth-838, their hope to retrieve the Book of Vishanti is crushed as Wanda destroys it. She takes over Chavez's mind, using her powers to send the others to an incursion-destroyed universe. Back in Earth-616, at Mount Wundagore, Maximoff begins the spell to take Chavez's powers.

In the incursion destroyed universe, Strange uses its Darkhold to dream-walk in the corpse of the deceased Defender Strange back on Earth-616. With Wong's help, Strange saves Chavez from Wanda. Encouraging her to use her abilities, Chavez transports Wanda to Earth-838, where she sees Billy and Tommy recoil from her in fear while crying for their real mother. Wanda relents and uses her powers to bring down Mount Wundagore, destroying all copies of the Darkhold throughout the multiverse and apparently sacrificing herself in the process. With the threat of the Scarlet Witch gone, Chavez begins training at Kamar-Taj and Doctor Strange’s use of the Darkhold has unintended consequences.

Spider-Man No Way Home Review

Synopsis for our Spider-Man No Way Home Movie Review

Directed by: Jon Watts

Written by: Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Based on characters by - Steve Ditko and Stan Lee

His identity revealed Peter Parker, aka Spiderman, and MJ try to escape the glare of the media spotlight and J Jonah Jameson. Pursued by the Department of Damage Control, not even the help from his lawyer Matt Murdock, can ease the intrusion of the identity of Spiderman. As it begins to affect the futures of Peter, MJ and Ned when their University applications to MIT are rejected because of the controversy Peter asks Doctor Stephen Strange if he can help.

A spell exists that may be the answer to Peter’s problems. Deep in the Sanctum Sanctorum and despite Wong’s warning, Doctor Strange casts a spell that will make people forget Peter is Spiderman. But it is a tricky and dangerous spell skirting the boundaries of reality. As Strange begins casting Peter keeps requesting alterations to the spell which causes it to become corrupted and run out of control.

While Strange manages to contain the failing spell, weird things begin to happen in New York City and they all appear focussed on Spiderman. As Peter tries to convince an MIT administrator to accept Ned's and MJ's applications, he is suddenly attacked by Doc Ock aka Otto Octavius who he manages to disarm and then by the Green Goblin who manages to escape.

He brings Doc Ock back to the Sanctum where he is placed in a holding cell next to Curt Connors in his Lizard form. But both adversaries don’t recognise this world’s Peter Parker. Doctor Strange reveals that the spell has begun bringing "visitors" from the multiverse who know that Peter is Spider-Man into their world from every part of the Multiverse. Armed with this knowledge and with the help of MJ and Ned, Peter decides to help capture any other possible visitors. Spider-Man manages to find and capture Electro aka Max Dillon and Flint Marko still in his Sandman form.

While Peter wants to save Doc Ock, Electro, Sandman and Lizard, Doctor Strange believes they should be returned to their universe to meet their fate. But with Peter’s greatest adversary Norman Osborne, the green Goblin still at large, Norman uses his split personality and Peter’s desire to help others for his own ends, trashing Peter’s plan and unleashing tragic events for Peter Parker.

With Aunt May killed and Peter desolate, MJ and Ned rally to his help, releasing Doctor Strange from the mirror dimension and recruiting two friendly neighbourhood visitors to his aid as they face off against his enemies at the Statue of Liberty. In the final battle the Spider-Men manage to cure their villains. At Peter's request, Strange fixes the spell, sending the alternate Spider-Men and their villains back to their universes, while making everyone forget Parker's existence.

Story by - Destin Daniel Cretton and Dave Callaham

Shaun and best friend Katy are living their life in San Francisco, parking cars for the rich elite of the city, with the occasional joyride. They've known each other since Shaun arrived in Katy's school as a young child with barely any English. When Shaun foils an attack on him on their bus journey to work, Katy learns he's been hiding a secret. His name is Shang not Shaun and he's the son of Wenwu the ancient and feared leader of The Ten Rings. Over the course of time Wenwu has harnessed the deadly power of a weapon known as The Ten Rings.

Shang-Chi, and Katy travel to Macau to locate Shang-Chi's sister, Xialing, to warn her of a potential attack on her. Xialing refuses to listen to Shang. But both are attacked and brought to their father’s compound.

There they learn that Wenwu was testing their abilities as he needs them on a mission to find Ta Lo, the mystical homeland of their late mother Li. But their father has been possessed by an ancient spirit, The Dweller In The Darkness, preying on his hopes that his dead wife is alive, to get access to the mystical city.

Shang-Chi, Katy and Xialing refuse to believe their mother if alive and refuse to help. They are imprisoned with the last person that crossed their father, actor Trevor Slattery. He and his pet Morris, a mythical Hundun, know the route through the deadly bamboo forest to the hidden city of Ta Lo.

Escaping their father’s compound, they survive passage to the hidden city and team up with his Auntie Ying Nan and the villagers of Ta Lo and fight for the survival of both this world and theirs against Wenwu’s obsession to break the barrier where he believes his wife resides.

Shang tries to prevent his father from further weakening the dragon scale barrier, that is releasing soul eaters from another dimension, collecting human souls to feed and awaken the Dweller. As he faces off against his father, he is flung into the nearby lake where his dragon heart awakens the Great Protector who comes to join the fight. As he confronts his father again he wins the right to command the Ten Rings when he uses everything he learned from his mother to best his father in combat.

Synopsis for our Eternals Movie Review Spoiler filled Podcast

Directed By - Chloé Zhao

Screenplay by - Chloé Zhao, Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo

Story by - Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo

Based on characters by - Jack Kirby

In 5000 BC a group of Eternal warriors, Ajak, Ikaris, Sersi, Sprite, Thena, Druig, Gilgamesh, Kingo, Makkari and Phastos were sent to earth by the Celestial being Arishem. Their mission is to protect humans from violent Deviants but not interfere with human progress.

Over millennia they fight this battle, and eventually establish a stronghold where they live together in Babylon. Two of the Eternals, Ikaris and Sersi fall in love and marry. By 1521, at Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire, the Eternals finally defeated the last Deviant on Earth.

In the aftermath of this victory, Thena is afflicted with Mahd Wy’ry, a disease that releases the memories of all of her previous lives. She can not control her power and attacks the Eternals. Gilgamesh calms Thena and agrees to watch over her instead of wiping her mind.

With their mission seemingly complete, their leader, Ajak, releases the rest from their obligations to go out in the world and live lives until Arishem calls upon them. But Druig, who has the power of mind control, is angry that he’s not allowed to use these powers to prevent conflict between humans and separates from all the rest.

In present day London, Sersi and Eternal teenager Sprite are attacked by a new, more powerful Deviant. With the help of Ikaris they drive away the monster and set out to find their leader Ajak who has been murdered by the Deviant. As Sersi stays by Ajak’s side a golden orb passes from Ajak to her, as she is chosen as the new leader of the team.

She contacts Arishem, Sersi learns the truth. They were to encourage life on earth until there was enough to awaken a new Celestial Tiamut. The return of all humans after Thanos’ snap has tipped the balance and Sersi needs to reunite the Eternals before the planet they love is destroyed.
