In this powerful interview, therapist and educator Yassie Pirani speaks out about Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD), an underrecognized but devastating condition affecting a significant number of antidepressant users. Drawing from both clinical experience and published research, Yassie reveals that 13% of past SSRI users report persistent genital numbness — a figure that challenges the mainstream narrative that PSSD is “rare.”We discuss:
• The psychological, emotional, and physical toll of PSSD
• Why most doctors dismiss it — and how that compounds the harm
• How SSRIs and other drugs like Finasteride and Ashwagandha can cause lasting neurological and sexual side effects
• The parallels between PSSD and other forms of trauma
• What therapists and medical professionals need to understand — and why patients feel betrayed
This is not just about side effects. It’s about identity loss, grief, and medical systems that gaslight the people they’re meant to help.

In this heartbreaking interview, Vincent and Yoko share the devastating story of their son Romain — a bright, gifted teenager whose life was cut short after being prescribed the SSRI paroxetine. What began as an effort to address obsessive thoughts turned into a nightmare of emotional instability, disinhibition, catatonia, and ultimately, suicide.
This is not just a story about a medication. It’s a story about silence. About a system that failed to warn. About the unimaginable grief of losing a child to something that never should have happened — and the doctors who never acknowledged the risks.
Vincent and Yoko are speaking out not just to honor their son, but to protect other families from the same fate. Their courage gives voice to those suffering in silence — and brings urgent attention to the dangers too often buried beneath clinical language and pharmaceutical marketing.
Watch their story. Share their voice. And help ensure that Romain’s loss was not in vain.

For decades, millions have been told a simple story: depression is caused by a chemical imbalance—specifically, low serotonin—and antidepressants correct it. But what if that story was never true?
In this powerful and urgent episode of Moral Medicine, psychiatrist and researcher Dr. Joanna Moncrieff joins us to expose how one of the most influential myths in modern medicine took hold—and the profound harm it's caused.
Dr. Moncrieff is a professor at University College London, a consultant psychiatrist, and co-founder of the Critical Psychiatry Network. In 2022, she led a landmark review of the serotonin theory of depression and found no consistent evidence that low serotonin causes the condition—despite this being a message repeated to patients, plastered in advertisements, and echoed by trusted doctors.
We dive deep into:
At Moral Medicine, we document stories and research that mainstream medicine ignores. We speak with patients, whistleblowers, and experts to shine a light on the darker side of modern healthcare—and to push for a future grounded in truth, accountability, and compassion.

Patrick, a long-time antidepressant user from Germany, shares his harrowing story of how Lexapro—and later, antipsychotics like Seroquel and Risperidone—led to a catastrophic decline in his mental and physical health. After years of stable use with no withdrawal issues, he decided to come off the medication during a high point in his life. But what followed was a nightmare: severe akathisia, emotional numbness, cognitive dysfunction, seizures, and full-body nerve damage after just a single dose upon reinstatement.
Hospitalized and dismissed by doctors who denied any link to the medications, Patrick was further harmed by additional drugs given without proper warning. He now lives with chronic depression, extreme apathy, physical pain, and neurological dysfunction—completely disabled and stripped of the life he once had.
This is a sobering look into the reality of iatrogenic injury and the denial patients often face when seeking help. Patrick’s story is a call for awareness, accountability, and compassion for those suffering after psychiatric medication exposure.

In this powerful interview, Thammika shares her deeply personal story of how Post-Finasteride Syndrome (PFS) affected not just her partner — but their entire relationship, future, and family. Her ex-husband developed severe sexual dysfunction after taking Finasteride before they met, and while their love for each other remained, the loss of intimacy ultimately led to the end of their marriage.
She opens up about the emotional toll this took on her — including moments of profound isolation and even suicidal ideation — and how that pain became the creative force behind her novel, Stamford Hospital, which went on to become the #1 bestseller of all books on Amazon Singapore.
This conversation isn’t just about side effects — it’s about how one drug can quietly unravel the most important relationships in someone’s life. It’s about the unseen impact on spouses, children, and families. And it’s a call to medical systems, pharmaceutical companies, and telehealth providers to be honest — because informed consent isn’t real if people don’t know what’s truly at stake.

In this episode of Moral Medicine, we're featuring Taha, who suffers from Post Accutane Syndrome (PAS) induced by a topical retinoid cream called Avene Retrinal 0.1 Intensive Cream. Taha used the cream for nearly three years, during which he developed a range of physical, sexual, and neurological side effects that continue to affect him today. He discusses the profound impact PAS has had on his life and the tragic, ongoing side effects he still manages.
Post Accutane Syndrome (PAS) refers to a set of chronic and often permanent side effects that some individuals experience after taking the acne medication Accutane (isotretinoin), or similar retinoids. These effects can be far-reaching, including severe neurological symptoms like memory loss, cognitive impairments, mood disorders, and heightened anxiety or depression. Sexual dysfunction is another hallmark of PAS, with many individuals experiencing lasting issues such as erectile dysfunction, loss of libido, genital numbness, and sexual pain. In addition to these, sufferers may endure a wide array of debilitating physical side effects as well, including joint pain, muscle weakness, chronic fatigue, and skin problems, which can severely limit daily functioning. These symptoms often extend far beyond those listed, and can affect almost every system in the body.
Tragically, there is no known cure or effective treatment for PAS, leaving those affected to cope with their condition without adequate medical support or recognition. The lack of understanding from healthcare professionals adds to the devastation, leaving many in a constant battle with a condition that has no clear resolution, robbing them of their quality of life.

In this video, we're launching a powerful initiative to help those affected by PFS, PSSD, and PAS share their stories and make a meaningful impact. We’re inviting individuals who’ve experienced iatrogenic harm from psychiatric drugs to submit their personal testimonial videos. The process is simple and empowering: your video can be just 3-5 minutes long, and all you need to do is talk about the drug you took and how it has affected your life. This initiative allows you to share your journey without the pressure of a full interview, giving you the freedom to express your experience in your own words and at your own pace.
Your story can be a beacon of hope for others facing similar struggles and help raise awareness about the long-term effects of psychiatric medications. By sharing your voice, you’re contributing to a larger movement that seeks acknowledgment, understanding, and change. It’s an opportunity for you to take control of your narrative and have a direct impact on the conversation surrounding these conditions. We believe that by coming together, these testimonials can provide crucial insights that could lead to better recognition and support for individuals affected by PFS, PSSD, and PAS.
This initiative isn’t just about raising awareness—it’s about empowering you to make a difference in the lives of others. If you're ready to speak out, your voice matters. Join us in this important effort to create a stronger, more supportive community.
