EP 145: Controlling the Weather - The Promise and the Power of Cloud Seeding
As water shortages intensify across the globe, one company is betting on a controversial solution: making it rain—literally. In this episode, we’re joined by Augustus Doricko, founder and CEO of Rainmaker, to break down the science, promise, and misconceptions around cloud seeding. We explore how this decades-old technology has advanced, what it could mean for agriculture and the environment, and why it’s drawing renewed interest. Doricko walks us through how cloud seeding actually works, the regulatory safeguards in place, and how it differs from more speculative geoengineering efforts. He also weighs in on the ethics of weather modification and why water access is becoming a national security issue.  He also fact checks various theories when it comes to ways the weather CANNOT be altered.  Note: Our conversation took place before the recent record flooding in central Texas. Rainmaker faced accusations on social media that their cloud seeding may have contributed to it. We include Doricko’s response.  Rainmaker is a sponsor of this podcast episode.  Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. EP 144: NYC Mayor Adams Defends Record, Calls For Cuomo To Quit, And Issues Warning About Mamdani
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is currently trailing in polls ahead of the November mayoral race — but he tells Mo News that the race has only just started.  In an interview with Mosheh, Adams said he’s focused on spreading his message about his record and administration’s wins — including on the economy and public safety — and registering 1 million new voters. Mosheh asks Adams how he plans to overcome his dismal favorability ratings with New Yorkers, while also pressing him on his five-count criminal indictment. It made him the first New York City mayor to be indicted, but was dropped by the Trump Justice Department in February. They discuss his relationship with Trump and what actually went down earlier this year.  Adams also addresses a number of the promises made by Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani — the 33 year-old Democratic Socialist who ran on promises of free childcare, free buses, rent freezes, and a sweeping social justice and tax agenda.  Adams has some blunt words in this interview for former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who lost to Mamdani in the Democratic primary but is still considering an independent run. A Mamdani victory is all but guaranteed if both Adams and Cuomo remain in and split the centrist vote.  Adams also discussed his origin story — including how getting beaten up by a police officer as a teen led him to join the NYPD— and played a round of rapid-fire questions on what he loves most about New York. (His favorite restaurant? Hint: it’s in Harlem.) —- Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. EP 143: Special Edition - Disaster and Response: Inside Kentucky’s Storm Aftermath and the Acts of Good Program
In the aftermath of the devastating EF-4 tornado that recently swept through Kentucky, Mosheh visits the hardest-hit areas to document the extensive damage and speak directly with residents impacted by the storms. In this special two-part edition of the Mo News podcast, Part 1 features firsthand accounts from London, Kentucky, where 19 people were killed and hundreds of homes and businesses were destroyed. Survivors share their harrowing experiences, losses, and how their community is rallying together in the aftermath. Part 2 provides a behind-the-scenes look at disaster relief operations through the Acts of Good and Tide Loads of Hope programs based in Cincinnati. Filmed shortly before the Kentucky visit, this segment offered crucial context and insight into the outreach and recovery efforts observed on the ground in Kentucky. EP 142: Why Your Health Insurance Is So Expensive — And What GLP-1s May Cure Next
Sky-high insurance premiums. Surprise medical bills. Drug prices that keep going up. Why does healthcare in America cost so much — and how did we end up here? Dr. Cedric Jamie Rutland, a critical care physician and BuzzRx Medical Advisor, joins Mosheh for a wide-ranging conversation that breaks down the real reasons healthcare is so expensive in the U.S. They explore how pharmacy benefit managers quietly shape what you pay, the unintended consequences of the Affordable Care Act, and why insurance coverage often feels arbitrary. Then, a deep dive into GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy: how they work, what they actually do to your body, and whether they’re the future of weight loss and preventative care. Dr. Rutland also shares why having insurance — even if you’re healthy — still matters more than many realize. BuzzRx, a prescription drug discount card and app service, saves users hundreds of dollars each month and has partnered with Mo News for a series focused on America's health and the prescription drug industry. EP 141: Why Nothing Works In America: Marc Dunkelman On How Democrats Lost The Ability To Do Things
With Republicans in power across all branches of the federal government, Democrats are looking for ways to regain trust and learn how to build things. One book they’re looking toward is Marc Dunkelman’s: Why Nothing Works: Who Killed Progress―and How to Bring It Back.  In this episode, Marc joins Mosheh to discuss how the Democratic distrust of power since the 1960s has led to stagnation and public distrust, paving the way for Donald Trump’s election as someone who promises to make things actually happen. He explains how we got from the era of Robert Moses reshaping New York and FDR’s New Deal, to a modern day with infrastructure in disrepair nationwide. Plus, some broader historical context: how the dueling mindsets at the heart of progressivism—a need for strong executive action and a mistrust of power— reflects a broader American conflict that goes all the way back to the days of Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. EP 140: Canada Has Spoken: Mark Carney Elected, Trump’s Role, And The U.S.-Canada Rift Grows
Mark Carney has pulled off a remarkable political comeback to become the next Prime Minister of Canada, keeping his Liberal Party in power after trailing significantly just months ago.  The win comes as Canada faces growing tension with the U.S., as President Trump has ignited a trade war, and repeatedly spoken about making Canada America’s “51st state.” In this special post-election edition, we’re joined by Amanda Alvaro and Rachael Segal, co-hosts of the Canadian podcast Beyond a Ballot, to unpack how Carney pulled it off, how Trump’s attacks helped Liberals and hurt Conservatives, and what this all means for U.S.-Canada relations moving forward.  From voter backlash to economic anxieties and national identity, we break down the forces reshaping Canadian politics at a critical moment. EP 139: “A Fog of Delusion and Denial”: How Democrats Hid Biden’s Decline
In this episode, Mosh sits down with Chris Whipple, author of the new book Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History for a behind-the-scenes look at the tight-lipped four years of the Biden Administration. Whipple interviewed several former White House staffers–including Biden’s former Chief of Staff, Ron Klain–about Biden’s decline before and during his presidency, and what he calls a “fog of delusion and denial” in the President’s inner circle leading into the 2024 campaign.  He takes us inside Camp David for the prep before his disastrous June 27 debate, and the chaos in the Democratic party during the three weeks after the debate until Biden’s decision to drop out. It’s also a story of personalities in Washington: the complicated relationship between Biden and Barack Obama, why Kamala Harris’ loyalty may have contributed to her failed campaign, and why President Trump’s Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, might have a better handle on him than anyone who held the role in his first term. 🐝 This podcast was recorded from the Mo News office at Industrious at Midtown on 50th St. — Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. EP 134: How Laundry Detergent Transformed American Life
Today, laundry takes just a few buttons and a spin cycle—but behind that convenience lies a remarkable story of innovation and perseverance. In this episode, Procter & Gamble’s historian and corporate storyteller Shane Meeker takes us on a journey through the evolution of laundry—from the gritty days of 19th-century soapmaking to the revolutionary invention of Tide, the detergent that took 14 years to create. From the company’s origins in the 1800s making soap and candles, we uncover how science, storytelling, and even wartime research reshaped household routines. Plus, the unexpected role P&G played in inventing the TV soap opera, and how today’s laundry labs continue to evolve with consumer habits. EP 133: “Rules Apply to Everybody”: Top House Democrat Talks Signal Chat, Student Deportations & Democratic Frustration"
How do we hold power accountable—no matter which party’s in charge? Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, joins Mo News to break down the controversy surrounding the leaked Signal app chat of Trump officials planning military strikes, and the broader issue of how both parties handle classified information. Himes doesn’t mince words, slamming his own party for a lack of accountability after the deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan, and drawing a hard line on why every administration must be held to the same standard—regardless of politics. He also addresses the Trump administration’s policy of detaining and deporting international students—warning it could become a dark chapter in U.S. history reminiscent of the McCarthy era. Himes breaks down who should be deported, and who shouldn’t, making the case that lawful protest and unpopular opinions should not be grounds for deportation. Finally, he offers candid insight into the state of the Democratic Party and why he believes the base is justified in feeling upset. 🐝 This podcast was recorded from the Mo News office at Industrious at Midtown on 50th St. — Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. EP 131: White House Interview Special Part 1: Robert F Kennedy Jr Talks Health Agenda; Trump Senior Strategist May Mailman Talks DOGE, Immigration and Campus Crackdown
Mo News visited the White House this week to get perspective on the Trump agenda 60 days into the administration from DOGE to immigration to tariffs to their “Make America Healthy Again” initiative. We interviewed several top officials during our trip. This episode will include two conversations.  First, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. joined us just hours after announcing sweeping cuts to his department—slashing the workforce by thousands. Kennedy argues the agency (which includes the CDC, FDA, NIH, and others) has grown bloated under Biden and says fewer administrators will actually make it more effective.  Kennedy also opened up about his crackdown on soda in food stamps, his baby formula initiative, and where the president has drawn a line when it comes to MAHA. In a wide-ranging conversation, Kennedy laid out his plan to reshape HHS—and why he believes doing “more with less” will improve care. Second, we present our conversation with May Mailman, a senior policy strategist and Deputy Assistant to the President. She discussed what makes the second Trump term different, from the whirlwind pace, to the pre-planned executive orders and how aggressive implementation have reshaped the administration's early impact. We get into the administration’s controversial border deportation strategy, including the legal battle over deporting alleged gang members to El Salvador using a law from 1798.  Beyond that, Mailman also opens up about working with Elon Musk on the administration’s Doge initiative to cut government waste, explaining why his “outsider” mindset—paired with insider legal expertise—is making changes she once thought were impossible. We also explore how those aggressive early cuts are being refined to avoid what some call indiscriminate slashing. Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. EP 130: Recession Concerns, Tariffs, Inflation, and AI with NPR’s Roben Farzad
The first months of the second Trump administration have been filled with economic headlines: on-again/off-again tariffs, fluctuating markets, and the threat of a recession. In this episode, we dive deep with Roben Farzad, host of NPR’s Full Disclosure podcast, on how we got here to this point over the last several decades. Roben explains how years of free trade and offshoring have led to rising stock markets and cheap luxury goods, while millions of Americans still feel the pinch of rising inflation and housing prices–issues that swept Trump into office in 2024. EP 128: Constitution 101 With Author Ben Sheehan
Since his inauguration just over one month ago, President Trump has signed a series of executive orders and taken other actions to remake and reduce the size of the federal government. And in the process, he’s challenging the checks and balances that are a hallmark of our democracy. Dozens of lawsuits have been filed in the past month challenging some of those executive actions. Federal courts across the country have started to weigh in.  We thought it would be a good idea to go back to basics, with some Government and Constitution 101. And for that, we’re talking to Ben Sheehan, best-selling author of What Does the Constitution Actually Say? A Non-Boring Guide to How Our Democracy Is Supposed to Work.  Ben has appeared as a political analyst on Real Time with Bill Maher, Good Morning America and CBS News. He’s host of the upcoming series Civics Made Easy on PBS. EP 125: Race in America: Obama’s Legacy, Trump, BLM, and the Second Civil Rights Movement
We take a look at the state of race in America with what is being called the second Civil Rights Movement. The nation has undergone dramatic shifts over the past two decades, from the election of Barack Obama, to Black Lives Matter, to the rise, fall and return of Donald Trump. Juan Williams joins Mosheh to discuss these developments and his new book, New Prize For These Eyes, which examines the second civil rights movement of the past 20 years. The conversation explores Obama’s legacy—both his accomplishments and shortcomings—as well as the progress and missteps of the Black Lives Matter movement. We dive into the state of the Democratic party, civil rights activists and how Black Americans look at the two political parties.   Williams, a longtime journalist, who is currently a contributor at Fox News Channel, where he and Mosheh previously worked together, offers his perspective on the challenges facing America’s shifting racial landscape.  — Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist.
