Imagine traveling to some of the most extreme, remote, and untouched places on Earth—and doing it not just once, but twice, to experience the full contrast of life in different seasons. In this captivating episode, we sit down with a truly unique adventurer and photographer, Atul Prasad, whose journeys are as inspiring as they are bold.
Atul’s story begins in the northernmost frontier of Alaska, a place called Barrow (now known as Utqiaġvik). He takes us to the heart of the whaling festival, where locals celebrate their connection to the Arctic waters with centuries-old traditions. Experiencing the close-knit community’s way of life during the festival was only the start of his remarkable journey.
But the highlight of the episode is his two trips to Mongolia in a single year. Atul had the unique opportunity to travel with none other than BBC’s Timothy Allen and his crew on the expeditions. On his first visit, he braved -30°F snow during the migration of Kazakh eagle hunters. Trekking alongside families, herding their livestock, and carrying their prized eagles through snow-covered landscapes, he immersed himself in their arduous but extraordinary way of life. Moved by the experience, he returned that summer to witness an entirely different side of Mongolia. This time, the same families were alive with joy and celebration. From making cheese to rearing sheep, the vibrant life of the community stood in stark contrast to their winter hardships. Spending those months with the same families gave him an unparalleled insight into how the seasons shape human lives and cultures.
Adding to the allure of this episode is Atul’s love for photography. A hobbyist with a keen eye, his works have been featured in renowned magazines. This episode is not just about extraordinary places; it’s about the resilience, joy, and connection found in the lives of those who live at the edges of the world. Atul’s tales will inspire you to see travel through a new lens and seek stories that go beyond the usual paths. Join us for a conversation packed with adventure, culture, and humanity—from the icy landscapes of Alaska to the sunlit summers of Mongolia, and everything in between.

In today's podcast episode, we have an exciting guest, Ms. Smrutha Santhosh, who takes us on a whirlwind vacation adventure she had with her husband and son in Iceland. This family loves taking Christmas trips, but this one was special as they were chasing the Northern Lights for the first time. Their journey, however, got off to a rocky start—literally. They lost a bag in transit, and driving on icy roads soon became a test of nerves. One night, a snowstorm led to a major mishap when their car landed in a giant ice ditch, leaving them stranded in the freezing cold for over 2-3 hours, waiting for help. A true misadventure!
But instead of letting it ruin the trip, they quickly devised a Plan B. They joined a tour group to explore the beautiful icy landscape of Iceland. From soaking in the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon during fresh snowfall to marveling at glaciers, frozen waterfalls, giant geysers, and mega craters, they embraced Iceland’s “Land of Fire and Ice” experience. And of course, the ultimate highlight was witnessing the breathtaking aurora borealis dance across the sky for the very first time.
Despite the setbacks, this trip turned out to be one for the books. It reminded them that vacations are all about making memories, spending quality time with loved ones, and embracing the unexpected. My guest’s lively storytelling made this conversation a joy to listen to. Tune in to hear the full story!

In this episode, we welcome Phalgun Guduthur, a passionate explorer on his third sabbatical, who spent six months uncovering the wonders of South America. Phalgun is a ‘serial traveler’ who thrives on exploring new places, soaking in the local culture, making lasting connections, and, of course, savoring local cuisine and beer with newfound friends. He shares how sabbaticals have become transformative for him, whether they reignite his professional spark, open doors to new career paths, or provide the perfect escape from the routine hustle.
Phalgun's journey through South America is packed with unforgettable stories. From crazy parties with drug lords to dancing reggaeton under the shadow of Christ the Redeemer, he had once-in-a-lifetime experiences. He trekked across jaw-dropping landscapes, witnessed an awe-inspiring volcanic eruption during a trek, waded through serene lagoons, and celebrated life through local festivals. He also faced challenges like altitude sickness and explored the vibrant yet complex favelas, all while embracing the rich, immersive culture of the continent.
One of the most memorable moments of Phalgun's journey was celebrating his birthday atop the majestic Rainbow Mountain, surrounded by llamas and alpacas. Though he initially doubted he'd return to South America due to the distance and expense, the magic of the trip convinced him otherwise. Now, he's already planning part two of his South American sabbatical.

Jonty’s recommendations through the episode:
In our upcoming podcast episode, we have the pleasure of hosting an adventurous and confident woman, Ms. Korobi Roy, who explores the world one place at a time, embracing the thrill of solo travel.
Her journey began in the serene coastal town of Varkala in Kerala, where she discovered the joy and therapeutic benefits of traveling alone. She shares how solo travel allows her to create her own schedule, cater to her own preferences, and make countless new friends through engaging conversations along the way.
She then embarked on an educational adventure in Prague during a sabbatical. Balancing a very tough course in a new country amidst co-students from across the world was a real challenge. But she took up the challenge and had a great time there too. Immersing herself in the city's rich history and exploring its surrounding villages and towns as she kept up the course rigor. Living with a diverse group of international students, she experienced the joy of communal living—cooking, eating, traveling, and studying together.
The course culminated in a delightful trip to Vienna, where she had her first eye-opening experience staying in a multi-gender hostel room. From palaces and gardens to theatres, cathedrals, beer gardens, and pubs, her strolls through Vienna were nothing short of magical.
