Welcome to Mighty Girls. I’m your host Sarah, founder of Eltee Sydney. This podcast is dedicated to girls who are achieving great things in their sports, despite the challenges that lead 55% of girls to drop out by the age of 17. Often it's not because they don't like sport anymore either. It's other things. It might be juggling sport with schoolwork or grappling with changing bodies and managing periods. On each episode of Mighty Girls, we chat about highs and lows, what the girls have done to last the distance and we discuss how sport has helped them in other areas of their lives. I also talk to their parents, coaches, and other health care and sports professionals for tips, advice and insights on how we can keep girls engaged in sport. Join me on my mission to keep girls moving. Want to arm yourself with more information around the causes of sports disengagement among girls? Women in Sport, a not-for-profit that campaigns to transform sport for the benefit of every woman and girls, has developed ‘8 Principles for Success’. They’re the key steps in minimising the barriers girls experience so they can make sport and exercise a more meaningful and exciting prospect in their lives. Read more in the full report (March 2022) (https://www.womeninsport.org/.../Tackling-Teenage...). It's from the UK but the findings are pretty much a carbon copy of results of similar research on young Australian girls.
