Todd McLellan, despite a struggling March, had an impressive first season with Detroit. In his first full season with the Red Wings will we see a more consistent competitive team? What areas do we hope to see them improve? Daniel Sprong is headed to the KHL. Detroit announces Eras nights at LCA. #LGRW
You asked, we answered on this mailbag episode. Will Carter Mazur make the Wings? Should Yzerman's seat be hot? Will Berggren get looks in the top 6? #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings had a very off carosuel of leaders last season, constantly switching from one player to the next for the 'A'. Hopefully that sillyness comes to an end and they name actual assistant captains. Who are the candidates? Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, Ben Chiarot, Andrew Copp and JT Compher all seem like viable options. #LGRW
Jared McCann is 29 years old with 2 years remaining on a very reasonable $5M AAV deal. He plays PP1, PK1 and is their best forward. The question is not, 'should the Detroit Red Wings pursue Jared McCann', because yes, they should. It's more about 'Why are the Seattle Kraken listening to offers on him'? #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings signed their 2025 1st round pick to his ELC on Wednesday. Where will Carter Bear play this season? Detroit's schedule was released on Wednesday as well, and their home opener is against the Montreal Canadiens. What is our first reaction to the schedule? The NHL has been releasing Top 10 lists, and we have some thoughts. #LGRW
Monday we discussed why the Detroit Red Wings may improve in this upcoming year, now we will look at the other side of the coin. With two notable holes in the top six and top four can Detroit realistically climb the standings? Especially with the Atlantic Division getting better too. #LGRW
Every offseason we bring you our reasons why Detroit may improve, and reasons why they may regress in two seperate episodes. Today we do the 2025 version of why they may improve. Does John Gibson elevate this teams ceiling? Can youth have an immediate impact? Does Todd McLellan's 1st full season improve the overall team? #LGRW
With another year in the book and another Top 15 pick, who are the Detroit Red Wings' Top 10 Prospects? Where does Carter Bear rank? Who is number one? Danielson, Brandsegg-Nygard or Sandin-Pellikka? Augustine or Cossa? #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings had one of the best power plays in the league, and one of the worst penaly kills EVER last season. Will the additions and subtractions to the roster help the PP stay top 5? Can those same changes prevent a league worst PK? #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings have gotten better on the margins, but is it enough to move up the Division standings? Which teams in the Atlantic have gotten worse? Who has gotten better? #LGRW
The trade market is beginning to thin out, and with options to improve the roster thinning out, should Detroit look towards Pittsburgh for their roster help? GM Klye Dubas has made it open he is open for business shopping Karlsson, Rakell and Rust. How much would any of these three help Detroit? #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings made small, subtle improvements to their roster this free agency with the signings of James van Riemsdyk and Jacob Bernard-Docker. But, where will those players slot in? Does Detroit have an internal solution to their top line left wing problem? Will Gibson be their opening night starter? #LGRW
Steve Yzerman spoke to the Detroit media, signaling the end of the Red Wings' free agency. He spoke about the difficulty getting roster upgrades with the thin market, and how he will continue to explore the trade market. He does believe the team is better now with the signings they did make. How would you grade his free ageny moves? #LGRW
The Detroit Red Wings made a move on wednesday, signing Mason Appleton to a 2-year, $2.9M AAV deal. Does the deal make sense? Depends on who you ask. The Wings also re-signed Elmer Soderblom to a 2-year deal as well. #LGRW
Most of the leagues top free agents didn't make it to noon on July 1st. Meaning rather than overpay for a mediocre player, Detroit opted for several cheap depth players to help the team on the fringes. That's fine and acceptable. BUT, missing on K'Andre Miller will hurt as the defender would have really helped Detroit now. #LGRW
The Red Wings were able to offload of 100% of Vladimir Tarasenko's final year in a trade to the Minnesota Wild for 'future consideration'. They also avoided adding a sweetner, giving Detroit an additional $4.75M in cap space for tomorrow. Detroit used some of that added cap to re-sign Albert Johansson to a two-year deal carrying an AAV of $1.125M, a good bridge deal for a player who surprised many this season. Aaron Ekblad is also off the market, opting to take a team friendly deal to stay in Florida. #LGRW
After years of speculation and rumor, it finally happened. John Gibson was traded by the Anaheim Ducks to the Detroit Red Wings for Petr Mrazek and two picks. How much of an upgrade is this? Also, we round up day 2 of the draft and cover the comments Yzerman made in the post-draft media availability. #LGRW
Despite us wanting them to, Detroit did NOT trade the pick. But they did acquire a player on our short list if they did draft, in Carter Bear. The F from the WHL plays with pace, is physical, and has the skill to finish. Detroit re-signed Antti Tuomisto and William Lagesson. The new CBA has been passed and the changes are great! Noah Dobson was dealt from the New York Islanders to the Montreal Canadiens and social media flipped. #LGRW
