The Friday mailbag is here. We’re answering questions about Dylan Raiola’s ability to beat the pass rush and the Huskers’ run-pass split? Should they just go all in on the aerial attack? Where does Matt Rhule rank on the Big Ten scale of conservative to high risk? There’s another question about using TJ Lateef in short yardage. How good is the Nebraska O-line?
What’s fixable for the Huskers this year, and what’s not? Do we get insulted by the comments? And finally, what are the challenges that Michigan State poses for Nebraska’s Blackshirts on Saturday? Join us for a fun finish to the week.
Going over the biggest moments from Week Five in the Big 10, starting with the Oregon Ducks surviving against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Then, going over the biggest matchups of Week Six, including the Wisconsin Badgers taking on the Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
We’re back on this Thursday after the crossover pod, talking about the comments this week offered by Nebraska football coordinators Dana Holgorsen and John Butler. What do they want to see from the Huskers? It’s pretty simple. Attitude at the lines of scrimmage.
Nebraska volleyball heads to Penn State on Friday for a Fox national-TV match. The Huskers and their coach are highly motivated. We discuss. And Connor and Mitch are making picks for the weekend. Will the forecasted gusty winds factor in the play on Saturday as the Spartans invade Memorial Stadium? Join us.
Matt Sheehan of Locked On Spartans visits with Mitch on this Big Ten football crossover podcast ahead of Michigan State’s visit to Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Are the Spartans playing with house money here in this second conference game of coach Jonathan Smith’s second season? How much of a threat is the running ability of QB Aidan Chiles to a Nebraska defense that is struggling to stop explosive running plays?
Matt grills Mitch on Matt Rhule, Dylan Raiola and the Huskers. And Mitch returns the favor. Is the Michigan State pass defense as bad as it looks on paper? Where does Nebraska rank in importance for Michigan State in this four-game October stretch? We know it’s not at the top. Join us for a breakdown of the Huskers and the Spartans.
Week 6 is well underway at Nebraska football headquarters. The Huskers and coach Matt Rhule have turned their attention toward Michigan State. But they’re also looking inward. Rhule, in his meeting with the media on Monday, challenged his players to take a punch and swing back.
Rhule said there’s “no time to wallow in self pity” as six games in six weeks await Nebraska. He was plain and to the point. Connor and Mitch are here to give their thoughts on the coach’s comments and continue with the preview of the matchup between the Huskers and the Spartans. Join us.
What a weekend it was in college football. The big games in Week 5 lived up to the hype, from morning to late at night. Much of what happened in the Big Ten could impact Nebraska as the Huskers navigate the remaining eight opponents on their regular-season schedule. Each of Nebraska’s four foes in November lost on Saturday. So does that make the Huskers’ road any easier?
Connor and Mitch are discussing possible storylines for Week 6 as Michigan State prepares to visit Memorial Stadium. And did you see all those memorable moments from Saturday? We did. And we’re having fun as we look back. Join us.
It’s unexpectedly sorrowful here after the passing of former Nebraska offensive lineman Matt Vrzal. We remember Vrz. His pizza and his personality will be sorely missed around the state of Nebraska and by many in the communities that he impacted.
In the mailbag, we’re asked to make a decision between troughs and trenches. Does Nebraska face that choice? We’re talking about the Huskers’ issues on the offensive and defensive lines. Do the Huskers match up well against Michigan State? Why didn’t Nebraska get a running back from the transfer portal? What’s real and what’s not when it comes to NIL funding? And more on the various conversations about Dylan Raiola. Join us.
Week 5 will be major for the Big 10! The top game in the country is the Oregon Ducks taking on the Penn State Nittany Lions. The USC Trojans are traveling to the Illinois Fighting Illini, the Ohio State Buckeyes are visiting the Washington Huskies and more!
Moving right past the latest drama on social media around analysis of Dylan Raiola, we’re making a bye week checklist for the Nebraska football team. What can the Huskers do this week to fix problems that have appeared through four games? Is it realistic for Nebraska to pick a second running back, settle on the right combination at offensive tackle and address the point of contact up front on defense? Connor and Mitch have thoughts.
We look at a huge Week 5 in college football, discussing three games in the Big Ten and three outside of the conference that capture our attention. And we have a request from Aaron in Montana, who’s bringing family to Lincoln next week for his meaningful maiden voyage to Memorial Stadium. Join us.
The bye week is upon us. Nebraska and its next opponent, Michigan State, are resting ahead of a game next Saturday in Lincoln to kick off October. Would wins for the Huskers against the Spartans, Maryland and Minnesota do more for Nebraska than what it could have gained by taking down Michigan? Connor and Mitch weigh in. We’re looking at the upcoming foes through the lens of their play in the first month of the season – and taking stock in the entire Big Ten. Who’s better than we expected, and who is not?
Also, how do the Huskers fix their woeful rushing offense and rushing defense performance from the first two games this season against Power 4 opponents? Can they fix it in 2025? And we go around college football, with a look at the Oklahoma State situation and the decision by the SEC and the ACC to go all in on nine conference games plus an outside power foe. Join us.
We’ve got a special Monday night pod for you. If you’re listening on Tuesday, that’s OK. We’ll be back on Wednesday to return to our normal schedule. For now, we’re still in the mode of reviewing Nebraska’s 30-27 loss on Saturday against Michigan. We heard on Monday from Matt Rhule, who had plenty to say about the Huskers’ mindset to enter the bye week ahead of October.
Rhule discussed the questions that he’s seeing with Nebraska after four games. And he addressed the Dylan Raiola narrative that the Huskers’ sophomore quarterback can do nothing other than look and act like Patrick Mahomes. It is, of course, all quite ridiculous, but it’s become an elephant in the room. So we’re tackling it here, along with Rhule, in this episode. And we finish with a rant about the scoring opportunity – yes, that’s singular – in the opening minutes at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
In the end, Michigan’s edge at the line of scrimmage was too significant. The Nebraska football team lost 30-27 on Saturday to the Wolverines, a 28th consecutive defeat against an AP-ranked opponent. Even with two gift-wrapped scoring opportunities on which Nebraska capitalized, it could not overcome Michigan’s dominance up front.
The Huskers left points on the field, too. But we don’t believe that’s what cost the Huskers this game. Dylan Raiola was sacked seven times. The quarterback still threw for 308 yards and three scores. He was surly in defeat – and that’s OK. Nebraska needs his leadership. And Raiola is providing it. Several others shined for Nebraska in defeat. Join us for a full analysis.
The Friday mailbag is here. We’ve made it to the end of Michigan week. Nebraska fans remain a confident bunch, but they have some concerns to enter this game. Notably, how will the Huskers stop Bryce Underwood, the Wolverines’ dynamic quarterback? Someone in our audience today questions if the Huskers should even want to go to the CFP. What?!?
After Matt Rhule raved about his experience at the Bud Crawford fight, what is the greatest sporting event you’ve attended? Connor and Mitch have thoughts. Should Nebraska play TJ Lateef if the right moment emerges? We’ve got questions from Thailand and Hawaii, new locations for this podcast. And we finish today on the subject of Nebraska’s highly paid backup offensive tackle, Elijah Pritchett. Join us.
Taking a look back and what happened across the Big 10 during week three and what will be going down in week four. Did ESPN rob the Indiana Hoosiers of Gameday with the Illinois Fighting Illini in town? Can the Nebraska Cornhuskers stay perfect against the Michigan Wolverines? Plus more!
The final opportunity to preview Michigan-Nebraska, before our end-of-the-week mailbag episode, is here. And like a light bulb that flashed on in a dark room, it hit Mitch on Wednesday. What is the single-most important factor for Nebraska to beat Michigan? He’s got it. And it’s specific. Connor’s got a key to victory as well to discuss before Matt Schick of ESPN joins the pod for an enjoyable second segment.
Matt, or M-a-a-a-a-t-t as he’s known by some, discusses his many connections with our hosts, his own time in Nebraska, “The Schick and Nick Show,” and of course, we use this opportunity to get his thoughts on the big game Saturday in Lincoln. Also… we’ve got predictions. Join us.
We’re barrelling ahead toward Saturday. Just three days until Michigan invades Memorial Stadium. The Wolverines, as were reminded during the taping of this show, cheated when they most recently visited Lincoln. Guess what? It didn’t matter. The two programs were not playing at similar levels. This time, perhaps they are.
We hear on the podcast today from senior safety and captain Marques Buford. Experience his growth in real time. We hear from defensive coordinator John Butler and receive a reasonable explanation for the success of the Huskers’ pass defense in 2025. And we hear from Heinrich Haarberg, the former QB who now plays tight end. Haarberg remembers the 2023 Michigan game.
Also, Nebraska-Creighton volleyball was a smashing success on Tuesday night in Omaha. Join us to hear about all of it.
No proclamations on Monday from Nebraska coach Matt Rhule as we heard from the leader of the Huskers in their march toward Saturday and a visit from Michigan. Nebraska is approaching its Big Ten opener, against one of the biggest names in the league, with a maturity that we’ve not seen often out of this program during its days in the Big Ten.
Is the Dana Holgorsen-Dylan Raiola combo the best at those positions that Nebraska has fielded since the Tom Osborne era? A big volleyball event is headed to Omaha on Tuesday night, with Creighton and Nebraska set to shatter an attendance record. We’re talking, too, about Rex Guthrie. Rhule produced a funny moment involving his punter, the freshman Archie Wilson. But Fred Hoiberg got an even bigger laugh. Join us for a full rundown.
For months, we’ve pointed toward the Week 4 game as a revealing moment for Matt Rhule’s Nebraska football program. It’s finally here, Michigan week, and we can talk about it with no distractions. Will the Huskers’ progress as a program under their third-year coach be defined by what happens Saturday at Memorial Stadium? Who do the matchups favor? We take a look.
Also, the influx of new talent on the Nebraska roster has made a major difference for the Huskers through three games. The impact of several true freshmen and transfers should not be minimized as Nebraska enters Big Ten play. And we look back at Week 3 in college football, checking in with UCLA, Minnesota and LSU. Why LSU? Join us for the answer.
Big Ten football season is here for Nebraska. And not a moment too soon after Matt Rhule’s Huskers dispatched Houston Christian 59-7 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The football game felt like something of an undercard ahead of the big event that involved Nebraska on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Rhule was there at Allegiant Stadium – and so was AD Troy Dannen – to see Terence “Bud” Crawford beat Canelo Alvarez in a unanimous decision.
What a moment for Crawford and his favorite football program, whose players and coaches sent him plenty of love back in Lincoln earlier in the day. One of those in Bud’s corner was Dylan Raiola, the sophomore QB who belongs in the national conversation among the best players at his position after three strong weeks to open the season. We look at Raiola’s performance. We’ve got more on TJ Lateef, the picture at running back and all that the Huskers accomplished in taking care of business once again.
The Nebraska football mailbag returns as the Huskers prepare to host Houston Christian. And we’re starting with a question about the Tunnel Walk. Is it over-hyped and outdated? Ouch. Who would suggest such a thing? Might wide receiver Nyziah Hunter leave the Huskers early for the NFL? Have we changed our baseline expectations for the Nebraska special teams? Could the Huskers from 2023 and 2024 have handled Matt Rhule’s halftime speech in Week 2?
Need help with how to handle a decision between attending the Michigan game and spending quality time with family? Connor and Mitch are here with all of the answers. Thanks, as always, for your contributions.
