He believes the State is doing everything in its power to push this settlement through, potentially leaving the victims of the Maui Fires to suffer as victims once again. This must not be allowed to happen! Both the State of Hawaii and Maui County are on the verge of escaping accountability for their significant role in the fires and the resulting suffering of the people. If this settlement proceeds, it sets a dangerous precedent—there will be no deterrent for future negligence, as the state won’t be held responsible for its actions. This will pave the way for further injustices and weaken future lawsuits in the event of another disaster. Allowing a mere $4 billion settlement would be a grave injustice and a crime against the victims AGAIN!
