Welcome to the Living In Freedom Everyday Podcast, where over the past 9 episodes, we've delved deep into the multifaceted world of grief. We understand that grief comes in countless forms, and each individual experiences it uniquely. Throughout our journey, our incredible guests have shared invaluable insights and practical advice to help kickstart the healing process.
We've explored the profound meaning behind the shortest yet most powerful verse known to many: "Jesus Wept" (John 11:35). This verse reminds us that even the Son of God, fully human and fully divine, experienced grief. He shed tears for his friend Lazarus, sharing in the sorrow that we all feel when we lose someone dear to us. It's a poignant reminder that Jesus took on our grief to ultimately offer us healing and salvation.
Reflecting on John 3:16, we see the depth of God's love as He sacrificed His only son for our sake. This love leads us to 2 Corinthians 7:10, emphasizing that godly grief leads to repentance and salvation, while worldly grief leads to despair.
Hope is a central theme throughout our journey, encapsulated beautifully in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14. We find comfort in knowing that Jesus will bring with Him those who have gone before us, just as He rose from the dead.
Matthew 5:4 reminds us of our role in comforting those who have experienced loss, echoing Jesus' example in John 11:35 where He bore our grief alongside us. The healing process is further emphasized in passages such as Psalm 147:3 and 34:18, which tell us that God heals our broken hearts, and Matthew 11, where we are assured that His burden is light.
In times of sorrow, Jesus' words in John 16:22 offer solace as He acknowledges that His disciples will grieve. This grief, we learn from Luke 6:21, can eventually lead to joyous laughter, and Romans 8:18 reminds us that our present suffering pales in comparison to the eternal joy that awaits.
As we navigate the depths of grief, Revelation 21 paints a hopeful picture of a place free from loss and mourning. And finally, 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 encourages us to focus on the eternal, as our temporary struggles are building an incomparable stockpile of glory.
Remember, purpose isn't extinguished with a diagnosis or the loss of a loved one. Purpose endures until our very last breath.

What Is Grief? Wow. That's a deep question that has different answers for different people. For some, grief is a dark hole of depression and sadness that consumes them and weighs them down. For others, they say, "it's no big deal, I'm good", as they try to deny that they're hurting, probably because they've been (wrongly) told not to grieve, because "we know where they are", or "you'll see them again someday", by well-meaning family, friends, and sometimes ministers.
We all handle grief in different ways. In this episode, we define exactly what grief is...and what it's not.
