Summary:
From Bram Stoker Award finalist KC Jones comes White Line Fever, a harrowing thrill ride about friendship, trauma, and learning how to take the wheel of your own life. At a passing glance, County Road 951 is an entirely unremarkable stretch of blacktop, a two-lane scar across the Cascade foothills of Central Oregon. But the road is known by another name, coined by those who’ve had to clean up after all those scenic detours went horribly wrong: The Devil’s Driveway. When Livia and her long-time friends take the Driveway as a shortcut to a much-needed weekend getaway, what begins as a morning joyride quickly becomes anything but. Soon, they’re driving for their lives, pursued by a horror beyond anything they ever imagined. The Devil’s Driveway might be only 15 miles long, but with danger at every turn, it will take the four women to the very limits of their friendships and their sanity. And there’s no telling what else lies in wait just beyond the bend. Also by KC Jones: Black Tide

Title: Man Nobody Killed: Life, Death, and Art in Michael Stewart's New York
Author: Elon Green
Narrator: Unknown
Format: Unabridged
Length: 8:46:00
Language: English
Release date: 03-11-2025
Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Genres: History, Non-Fiction, True Crime, Mystery, Thriller & Horror, North America

Summary:
The first comprehensive book about Michael Stewart, the young Black artist and model who was the victim of a fatal assault by police in 1983, from Elon Green, the Edgar Award-winning author of Last Call. At twenty-five years old, Michael Stewart was a young Black aspiring artist, deejay, and model, looking to make a name for himself in the vibrant downtown art scene of the early 1980’s New York City. On September 15, 1983, he was brutally beaten by New York City Transit Authority police for allegedly tagging a 14th Street subway station wall. Witnesses reported officers beating him with billy clubs and choking him with a nightstick. Stewart arrived at Bellevue Hospital hog-tied with no heartbeat and died after thirteen days in a coma. This was, at that point, the most widely noticed act of police brutality in the city's history. The Man Nobody Killed recounts the cultural impact of Michael Stewart’s life and death. The Stewart case quickly catalyzed movements across multiple communities. It became a rallying cry, taken up by artists and singers including Madonna, Keith Haring, Spike Lee, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, tabloid legends such as Jimmy Breslin and Murray Kempton, and the pioneering local news reporter, Gabe Pressman. The Stewart family and the downtown arts community of 1980s New York demanded justice for Michael, leading to multiple investigations into the circumstances of his wrongful death. Elon Green, the Edgar Award–winning author of Last Call, presents the first comprehensive narrative account of Michael Stewart's life and killing, the subsequent court proceedings, and the artistic aftermath. In the vein of The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace and His Name is George Floyd, Green brings us the story of a promising life cut short and a vivid snapshot of the world surrounding this loss. A tragedy set in stark contrast against the hope, activism, and creativity of the 1980’s New York City art scene, The Man Nobody Killed serves as a poignant reminder of recurring horrors in American history and explores how, and for whom, the justice system fails.

Narrator: Christina Moore
Format: Unabridged
Length: 9:45:00
Language: English
Release date: 11-19-2024
Publisher: Recorded Books
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Religious Fiction

Summary:
Fair Meadows Retirement Community might as well be a country club for most of the retirees enjoying the pool, golf course, and book clubs. But for the caregivers whose family members reside upstairs in the special memory care unit, vacation is over. Comforting these forgotten folks is exactly why the Woolgatherers group has formed. The members make prayer shawls to support those affected by the heartbreaking reality of not being recognized by a loved one—people like Sam Talbot, who has been barely existing since his wife moved into Memory Care. Without her, his life has lost all color and meaning. That’s something the Woolgatherers can’t bear to see. Flirtatious Jenny Alderman, cranky crocheter Edna O’Brian, kind Rose Harker, and the rest of the prayer shawl group weave him into their circle. Sam has no idea how he got tangled up with them, and he’s no good at knitting. But when a member talks him into taking up his wife’s old crochet hooks, he discovers that this one small gesture might just have the power to heal his life—or even save it. “Wonderful, whimsical, thought-provoking, and spiritually inspiring.”—Cheri Swalwell, author of Adventure’s Invitation

She’s supposed to be decorating the nursery and helping her mother plan the baby shower, but she’d much rather be playing Scrabble with Homer Grant, a word-loving, shotgun-toting hermit living deep in the forest. But when she and Elvis drop by Homer’s cabin for their weekly game, they arrive to find an unknown dead man—and no sign of Homer. As they search the woods, Mercy discovers a patch of devastation that could only be left behind by wild boar. She’s relieved when Elvis tracks Homer, injured but alive. But Homer’s troubles are far from over, as he’s still the number one suspect and he remembers nothing of the attack. When another corpse with a link to Homer is found, Mercy is determined to help her friend, an effort complicated by the unexpected arrival of her young cousin Tandie, sent by Mercy’s mother to keep an eye on her until the baby is born. As the floods worsen, Troy and Susie Bear are called out with all the other first responders, and Mercy finds herself alone at Grackle Tree Farm with a concussed Homer, Tandie, and Elvis. As waters rise and the wild boar rampages, Mercy realizes that the murderer is out there ready to strike again, this time much closer to home. A Macmillan Audio production from Minotaur Books.

Format: Unabridged
Length: 7:15:15
Language: English

Summary:
This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice. The British Army is one of the most powerful fighting forces in the world. Its highly trained professional soldiers are equipped with the most advanced military technology ever made. Its international interventions, while controversial both at home and abroad, are carried out with incredible professionalism and little loss of life among British servicemen and servicewomen. Naturally, the history and traditions behind this army are also impressive. Britain has not been successfully invaded in centuries. Its soldiers once created and defended a global empire, and during the Second World War, it was one of the leading nations standing against the brutal Axis forces, leading the way in the greatest seaborne invasion in military history. The Napoleonic Wars radically altered the old, established European power dynamics, and in 1795, the British, now emerging as the globe’s naval superpower, assumed control of the Cape as part of the spoils of war. In doing so, they recognized the enormous strategic value of the Cape as global shipping routes were developing and expanding. Possession passed back and forth once or twice, but more or less from that point onwards, the British established their presence at the Cape, which they held until the unification of South Africa in 1910. Balanced nutrition is achieved by consuming a variety of foods that provide essential nutrients in appropriate proportions to support overall health and well-being. This includes: A sufficient intake of carbohydrates, which serve as the body's primary energy source. Complex carbohydrates from whole grains, vegetables, and legumes, along with simple carbohydrates found in fruits and sugars, contribute to stable blood sugar levels and digestive health. Proteins are essential for building and repairing tissues, producing enzymes and hormones, and supporting immune function. They are found in lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, beans, nuts, and seeds. Healthy fats, such as those in avocados, nuts, seeds, and oily fish like salmon, provide essential fatty acids crucial for brain function, hormone production, and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). Vitamins and minerals play critical roles in various bodily functions, including immune support, bone health, and energy metabolism. They are abundant in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy, and lean proteins. Water is indispensable for regulating body temperature, lubricating joints, and transporting nutrients and waste products. Adequate hydration is vital for overall health. Achieving balanced nutrition involves selecting a diverse range of foods from these groups to ensure a broad spectrum of nutrients. It also requires practicing portion control and moderation with foods high in added sugars, unhealthy fats, and sodium. This balanced approach supports overall health and reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. For personalized dietary guidance, consulting a registered dietitian or nutritionist is recommended.
