In today's episode you will learn the simple past tense in Greek. Emily will first engage in a conversation with Danae, describing her day in Athens and then will explain how to use and form the simple past.
D: Πώς πέρασες στην Αθήνα; / How was your time in Athens?
E: Ήταν απίστευτη εμπειρία! Η Αθήνα έχει τόσα πολλά να δεις και να κάνεις! / It was an incredible experience! Athens has so much to see and do!
D: Για πες! Τι έκανες όλη μέρα; / Tell me! What did you do all day?
E: Το πρωί ξύπνησα νωρίς και αφού έφαγα ένα τέλειο πρωινό γιαούρτι με φρούτα, πήγα στην Ακρόπολη. Επισκέφτηκα τον Παρθενώνα και θαύμασα τη θέα από ψηλά. Μετά κατέβηκα στο Μουσείο της Ακρόπολης και συναντήθηκα με τη φίλη μου την Ελένη, που μένει στην Αθήνα. / In the morning I woke up early and after having a perfect breakfast—yogurt with fruit—I went to the Acropolis. I visited the Parthenon and admired the view from above. Then I went down to the Acropolis Museum and met up with my friend Eleni, who lives in Athens.
D: Τέλεια! Πώς ήταν το μουσείο; Είναι τόσο καλό όσο λένε; / Awesome! How was the museum? Is it as good as they say?
E: Μου άρεσε πάρα πολύ! Έχει πάρα πολλά εκθέματα και οργανωμένα με ωραίο τρόπο. / I really liked it! It has so many exhibits and they’re very well organized.
D: Κι εγώ αυτό έχω ακούσει. Έκανες τίποτα άλλο μετά ή πήγες πίσω στο ξενοδοχείο. / That’s what I’ve heard too. Did you do anything else after that or did you go back to the hotel?
Έ: Ναι, μετά πήγαμε βόλτα στην Αρεοπαγίτου και περπατήσαμε μέχρι το Θησείο. Στη συνέχεια περάσαμε από το Μοναστηράκι, είδαμε τα παλιά μαγαζιά και εγώ αγόρασα μερικά αναμνηστικά. / Yeah, afterward we took a walk along Areopagitou Street and walked all the way to Thiseio. Then we passed through Monastiraki, saw the old shops, and I bought some souvenirs.
D: Δοκίμασες και ελληνικό φαγητό; / Did you try any Greek food?
Ε: Εννοείται! Το μεσημέρι έφαγα σε ένα ταβερνάκι στην Πλάκα. Παρήγγειλα μουσακά και μια χωριάτικη σαλάτα, αλλά δοκίμασα και από το παστίτσιο της φίλης μου. / Of course! At lunch I ate at a little taverna in Plaka. I ordered moussaka and a Greek salad, and I also tasted some of my friend’s pastitsio.
D: Πολύ ωραία επιλογή! Το απόγευμα τι έκανες; / Great choices! What did you do in the afternoon?
E: Πήγαμε στο Σύνταγμα και είδαμε την αλλαγή φρουράς μπροστά στη Βουλή. Μετά πήραμε έναν καφέ στο χέρι και περπατήσαμε στον Εθνικό Κήπο. / We went to Syntagma and watched the changing of the guard in front of Parliament. Then we grabbed a coffee to go and walked through the National Garden.
D: Και το βράδυ; / And in the evening?
E: Το βράδυ ανεβήκαμε στον Λυκαβηττό και είδαμε το ηλιοβασίλεμα. Η θέα της Αθήνας από ψηλά ήταν μαγική! / In the evening we went up to Lycabettus Hill and watched the sunset. The view of Athens from up there was magical!
D: Ακούγεται σαν πολύ γεμάτη αλλά και φανταστική μέρα! / Sounds like a packed but amazing day!
E: Ήταν όντως λίγο κουραστική, όμως πέρασα τέλεια! Η Αθήνα είναι υπέροχη πόλη! / It was a bit tiring, but I had a great time! Athens is a wonderful city!

In today's episode you will learn about Greek Orthodox Easter and how we celebrate it in Greece. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation about the celebrations and then will explain the importance of Easter in Greece and the different traditions.
E: Danae, did you know that Easter is one of the biggest celebrations in Greece?
D: Yes! I’ve heard that Easter in Greece is very special. What do you usually do?
E: Every place has its own customs, but the main ones are common for everyone. It all starts with Holy Week. Each day has its own significance, but Good Friday is very important.
D: Right! That’s when the procession of the Epitaphios takes place, isn’t it?
E: Exactly! On Good Friday evening, we follow the Epitaphios through the streets, holding candles.
D: And what about Holy Saturday?
E: On Holy Saturday, just before midnight, everyone goes to church for the Resurrection. When the priest says “Christ is Risen,” we light our candles with the Holy Light, the bells ring, and in many places there are fireworks too.
D: And then you crack the red eggs, right?
E: Yes! Cracking the eggs is one of the most fun traditions. And of course, afterwards we eat magiritsa!
D: Magiritsa… that’s the soup you eat after the Resurrection, right?
E: Exactly! It’s a traditional soup made with various kinds of meat and greens. Some people love it, others not so much!
D: And on Easter Sunday everyone eats lamb on the spit!
E: Yes! We gather with family and friends, roast lamb and kokoretsi, and dance traditional dances.
D: That sounds wonderful! Do you also have traditional Easter sweets?
E: Of course! Tsourekia and koulourakia are the most well-known.
D: What’s tsoureki?
E: It’s a sweet and fluffy bread with aromatic spices like mahlepi and mastiha.
D: I definitely have to try that! But usually, people celebrate Easter in the villages, right?
E: Right, many people leave the cities and go to their villages to celebrate with relatives. The atmosphere there is even more traditional and festive!
D: How lovely! I’d really like to celebrate Easter in a Greek village too.
E: We can celebrate together! This year, in fact, Orthodox and Catholic Easter fall on the same day. So we can go to my village together. What do you say?
D: Do you think I can still make it?

In today's episode you will learn about the interrogative pronouns ποιος/ποια/ποιο in Greek. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation making a list for gifts they need to buy and then explain the use of these pronouns and their cases.
E: Λοιπόν Δανάη, έχουμε πολλά γενέθλια αυτόν τον καιρό και πρέπει να πάρουμε δώρα. / So, Danae, we have a lot of birthdays coming up and we need to get gifts.
D: Κάτι έχω στο μυαλό μου. Ποιος έχει πρώτος; Ο Γιάννης ή Η Κατερίνα; / I have something in mind. Who's first? Yiannis or Katerina?
E: Ο Γιάννης, στις 5 Απριλίου και η Κατερίνα στις 11 Απριλίου. / Yiannis, on April 5th, and Katerina on April 11th.
D: Ωραία, σκεφτόμουν για τον Γιάννη ένα επιτραπέζιο και για την Κατερίνα παζλ. Τι λες; / Great, I was thinking of a board game for Yiannis and a puzzle for Katerina. What do you think?
E: Ωραίες ιδέες! Αλλά ποιο επιτραπέζιο σκέφτεσαι για τον Γιάννη; / Nice ideas! But which board game are you thinking of for Yiannis?
D: Δεν είμαι σίγουρη. Ποιο του αρέσει περισσότερο; / I'm not sure. Which one does he like the most?
E: Νομίζω πως του αρέσουν τα επιτραπέζια στρατηγικής, αλλά δεν ξέρω ποιο επιτραπέζιο έπαιζε τελευταία φορά και του άρεσε πολύ. / I think he likes strategy board games, but I don't know which one he played last time and really enjoyed.
D: Μήπως να ρωτήσουμε τον Νίκο; / Should we ask Nikos?
E: Καλή ιδέα! Και για την Κατερίνα, ποιον να ρωτήσουμε για το παζλ; / Good idea! And for Katerina, who should we ask about the puzzle?
D: Η αδερφή της, η Μαρία, μάλλον ξέρει. Θα της στείλω μήνυμα. / Her sister, Maria, probably knows. I'll send her a message.
E: Εντάξει, κλείσαμε. Σε ποιους άλλους έχουμε να πάρουμε δώρα; / Okay, settled. Who else do we need to buy gifts for?
D: Έχουμε την Ιωάννα και την Ειρήνη. / We have Ioanna and Eirini.
E: Αχ δεν θυμάμαι. Ποιανής είναι αγαπημένο χρώμα το μωβ; / Oh, I can't remember. Whose favorite color is purple?
D: Της Ειρήνης. / Eirini’s.
E: Τέλεια! Είχα δει ένα φοβερό φόρεμα και νομίζω θα της πηγαίνει πολύ! / Perfect! I saw an amazing dress, and I think it would look great on her!
D: Ωραία. Οπότε ας πάρουμε το φόρεμα στην Ειρήνη και στην Ιωάννα ένα βιβλίο. / Nice. So let's get the dress for Eirini and a book for Ioanna.
E: Ποιο βιβλίο όμως; Τα έχει διαβάσει όλα! / But which book? She's read them all!
D: Λογικά ο Γιάννης θα ξέρει ποιο λείπει από τη βιβλιοθήκη της! / Yiannis probably knows which one is missing from her bookshelf!
E: Σωστά. Οπότε κλείσαμε. Παρασκευή πάμε για ψώνια; / True. So that’s settled. Shall we go shopping on Friday?
D: Πάμε! / Let’s do it!

In today's episode you will learn different phrases about the weather in Greek. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about a day trip and then explain some expressions and vocabulary we use in Greek, when talking about the weather.
E: Επιτέλους ήρθε η άνοιξη και ανοίγει ο καιρός! / Spring is finally here, and the weather is warming up!
D: Ναι! Τις τελευταίες μέρες έχει πάρα πολύ ήλιο και κάνει πολλή ζέστη! / Yes! These past few days have been really sunny and very warm!
E: Καιρός ήταν! Τι λες, πάμε καμία εκδρομή την Κυριακή; / It was about time! What do you think, shall we go on a trip on Sunday?
D: Κυριακή από ό,τι είδα ίσως βρέξει. Πάμε μήπως το Σάββατο; / From what I saw, it might rain on Sunday. Should we go on Saturday instead?
E: Ναι, πάμε το Σάββατο. Σκεφτόμουν μήπως πηγαίναμε προς τον Πλαταμώνα. Να κάνουμε μια βόλτα στη θάλασσα και να φάμε σε μια ωραία ταβέρνα που ξέρω. / Yes, let's go on Saturday. I was thinking we could go to Platamonas, take a walk by the sea, and eat at a nice taverna I know.
D: Τέλεια ιδέα! Για δες, πόσους βαθμούς θα έχει το Σάββατο; / Great idea! Check the temperature for Saturday.
E: Λέει ότι η θερμοκρασία θα φτάσει μέχρι τους 22 βαθμούς Κελσίου. / It says the temperature will reach up to 22 degrees Celsius.
D: Σχεδόν καλοκαίρι! / Almost summer!
E: Βέβαια, το απογευματάκι που θα πέσει ο ήλιος θα βγάλει λίγο αέρα και θα κάνει ψύχρα. Οπότε ας έχουμε μαζί μας ένα ελαφρύ μπουφάν. / Of course, in the afternoon, when the sun goes down, it will get a bit windy and chilly. So let's bring a light jacket.
D: Έχεις δίκιο. Θα πέσει πολύ η θερμοκρασία το βράδυ. / You're right. The temperature will drop a lot at night.
E: Θα πέσει μέχρι και τους 11 βαθμούς Κελσίου. / It will go down to 11 degrees Celsius.
D: Οπότε οπωσδήποτε μπουφανάκι! Μήπως να πάρουμε και καμιά ομπρέλα μην βρέξει ξαφνικά; / So definitely a jacket! Should we also bring an umbrella in case it suddenly rains?
E: Η πρόγνωση δεν λέει κάτι για βροχή, δίνει μόνο συννεφιά, αλλά ας έχουμε μία ομπρέλα καλού κακού. / The forecast doesn't mention rain, only clouds, but let's take an umbrella just in case.
D: Πάντως η ξαδέρφη μου που μένει εκεί μου είπε ότι το βράδυ κάνει κρύο γιατί έχει υγρασία. / By the way, my cousin who lives there told me that it gets cold at night because of the humidity.
E: Σωστά! Αλλά εμείς θα φύγουμε γύρω στις 7 με 8 το απόγευμα. / That's true! But we'll be leaving around 7 or 8 in the evening.
D: Καλά λες! Κατά τις 10 το πρωί είναι καλά να ξεκινήσουμε; / Good point! Is 10 a.m. a good time to leave?
E: Μπορούμε να ξεκινήσουμε και λίγο πιο αργά, αφού έτσι κι αλλιώς έχει μεγαλώσει η μέρα και θα προλάβουμε πολύ ήλιο. / We can leave a bit later since the days are longer now, and we'll still get plenty of sunshine.
D: Ωραία! Ας βρεθούμε γύρω στις 11. / Great! Let's meet around 11.
E: Ναι, 11 είναι τέλεια! Τα λέμε το Σάββατο! / Yes, 11 is perfect! See you on Saturday!

In today's episode you will learn how to use the future continuous tense in Greek. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about Emily’s new Pilates routine, and schedule and then help you gain a better understanding of how to use this tense in everyday situations.
E: Δανάη! Έχω τέλεια νέα! / Danae! I have great news!
D: Για πες! / Tell me!
E: Λοιπόν, βρήκα ένα τέλειο στούντιο για πιλάτες και ξεκινάω από αύριο. / So, I found a perfect Pilates studio, and I’m starting tomorrow.
D: Αυτό είναι τέλειο! Πού είναι; / That’s awesome! Where is it?
E: Είναι δέκα λεπτά από το σπίτι μου και θα πηγαίνω με τα πόδια! / It’s ten minutes from my house, and I’ll be walking there!
D: Ποιες μέρες θα πηγαίνεις; / Which days will you be going?
E: Θα πηγαίνω κάθε Δευτέρα, Τετάρτη και ελπίζω Παρασκευή. / I’ll go every Monday, Wednesday, and hopefully Friday.
D: Καλά, και πώς θα προλαβαίνεις με τη δουλειά και τα παιδιά; / Well, how will you manage with work and the kids?
E: Θα είναι λίγο πιο γεμάτο το πρόγραμμά μου, αλλά τις ώρες που θα είμαι εκεί τα παιδιά θα είναι στο σχολείο. Όταν θα τελειώνω θα φεύγω κατευθείαν για δουλειά. / My schedule will be a bit fuller, but while I’m there, the kids will be at school. When I finish, I’ll head straight to work.
D: Μια χαρά μου ακούγεται! Τι ώρες θα είναι τα μαθήματα; / Sounds great to me! What time are the classes?
Ε: Εχουν πολλά μαθήματα μέσα στη μέρα, αλλά εγώ θα πηγαίνω στις 8:30 και θα διαρκούν μία ώρα. / They have many classes throughout the day, but I’ll go at 8:30, and they last one hour.
D: Πόσο θα πληρώνεις για τρεις φορές την εβδομάδα; / How much will you pay for three times a week?
E: Θα πληρώνω 100 ευρώ το μήνα! Και κάθε φορά που θα τελειώνει ο μήνας, το πακέτο μου θα ανανεώνεται αμέσως και δεν θα χάνω τη θέση μου. / I’ll pay €100 per month! And every time the month ends, my package will renew automatically, so I won’t lose my spot.
D: Πολύ βολικό αυτό. Δεν θα αγχώνεσαι να κλείνεις θέση για κάθε μάθημα! / That’s very convenient. You won’t have to stress about booking a spot for each class!
E: Ακριβώς! Μπορείς κι εσύ να γραφτείς και θα πηγαίνουμε μαζί! / Exactly! You can sign up too, and we can go together!
D: Ναι, το σκέφτομαι γιατί θέλω καιρό τώρα να ξεκινήσω κι εγώ. Αλλά πώς θα έρχομαι μέχρι εκεί; / Yeah, I’ve been thinking about starting for a while. But how would I get there?
E: Θα παίρνεις το μετρό και σε 10 με 15 λεπτά θα είσαι εκεί. Και μετά θα σε πηγαίνω εγώ στη δουλειά με το αμάξι. Τι λες; / You can take the metro, and in 10 to 15 minutes, you’ll be there. Then I can drive you to work. What do you think?
D: Θα με βολεύει πολύ να με πηγαίνεις στη δουλειά είναι η αλήθεια! Αν όμως δεν μπορώ κάποια μέρα, θα ακυρώνεται το μάθημά μου ή θα αναπληρώνεται άλλη μέρα; / It would really help if you drove me to work! But if I can’t make it one day, will my class be canceled, or can I reschedule?
E: Εννοείται πως αναπληρώνεται! Θα ενημερώνεις τη γραμματεία και θα βρίσκετε άλλη μέρα και ώρα που θα βολεύει για εκείνη τη βδομάδα. / Of course, you can reschedule! You just inform the reception, and they’ll find another day and time that works for that week.
D: Εντάξει λοιπόν, με έπεισες! Από αύριο δεν μπορώ, όμως από Τετάρτη θα έρχομαι μαζί σου! / Alright then, you convinced me! I can’t start tomorrow, but from Wednesday, I’ll come with you!
E: Τέλεια! Τώρα θα σε βλέπω και πιο συχνά και θα λέμε τα νέα μας πηγαίνοντας στη δουλειά. Τα λέμε την Τετάρτη λοιπόν! / Perfect! Now I’ll see you more often, and we can catch up on our way to work. See you on Wednesday then!

In today's episode you will learn new travel vocabulary in Greek. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about their travel itinerary and then will give you more clarity on related travel vocabulary.
E: Λοιπόν Δανάη, ήρθε η ώρα να οργανωθούμε για το ταξίδι μας στην Ελλάδα. / So, Danae, it's time to get organized for our trip to Greece.
D: Σωστά! Πλησιάζει η ώρα! Θύμισέ μου, τι ώρα είναι η πτήση μας; / Right! It's getting close! Remind me, what time is our flight?
E: Πετάμε την Παρασκευή 15 Αυγούστου στις 2:00 το μεσημέρι από το αεροδρόμιο του Νιούαρκ και η πτήση διαρκεί περίπου 9 ώρες και 15 λεπτά. / We're flying on Friday, August 15th, at 2:00 PM from Newark Airport, and the flight lasts about 9 hours and 15 minutes.
D: Άρα θα πάρουμε το λεωφορείο του αεροδρομίου κατά τις 9:00, γιατί θέλουμε γύρω στις 2 ώρες να φτάσουμε και θα έχουμε βαλίτσες να παραδώσουμε. / So, we'll take the airport bus around 9:00 AM because we'll need about 2 hours to get there, and we have luggage to check in.
E: Ακριβώς! Θα φτάσουμε γύρω στις 6:00 το πρωί ώρα Ελλάδος. Και σκεφτόμουν να πάρουμε το μετρό, που είναι πιο γρήγορο, για να πάμε στο ξενοδοχείο που είναι στο κέντρο. Έχουμε κλείσει το ξενοδοχείο σωστά; / Exactly! We'll arrive around 6:00 AM Greek time. I was thinking we should take the metro, which is faster, to get to our hotel in the city center. We've booked the hotel, right?
D: Εννοείται. Έχω κάνει κράτηση ένα δίκλινο δωμάτιο για δύο διανυκτερεύσεις, από τις 16 μέχρι τις 18 Αυγούστου. Και στις 18 του μηνός νωρίς το πρωί θα ξεκινήσουμε για Ναύπακτο. / Of course. I’ve reserved a double room for two nights, from August 16th to 18th. And on the morning of the 18th, we’ll head to Nafpaktos.
E: Ωραία, οπότε κλείσαμε την διαμονή μας και τη μεταφορά μας από και προς τα αεροδρόμια. Λες να πάμε από Αθήνα στη Ναύπακτο με ΚΤΕΛ ή να νοικιάσουμε αμάξι; / Great, so we have our accommodation and airport transfers sorted. Do you think we should take the bus from Athens to Nafpaktos, or should we rent a car?
D: Θα έλεγα καλύτερα να νοικιάσουμε αμάξι, γιατί τα δρομολόγια του ΚΤΕΛ δεν θα μας βολέψουν. Η αφετηρία τους θα είναι μακριά και η πρώτη αναχώρηση είναι στις 11:00 το πρωί. / I’d say renting a car is better because the bus schedules won’t be convenient. The departure point is far away, and the first bus leaves at 11:00 AM.
E: Έχεις δίκιο, είναι αργά. Καλύτερα έτσι, για να έχουμε την άνεσή μας και να είναι ευκολότερη η μετακίνηση. / You’re right, that’s too late. Renting a car will give us more flexibility and make traveling easier.
D: Έτσι το σκέφτηκα και εγώ. Επίσης, όσο θα είμαστε εκεί μπορούμε να πάμε μονοήμερη εκδρομή σε κάποιο από τα κοντινά νησιά και να πάμε με το αυτοκίνητο στο λιμάνι για το πλοίο προς Κεφαλονιά ή Ζάκυνθο. Τι λες; / That’s what I thought too. Also, while we’re there, we could take a day trip to one of the nearby islands and drive to the port to catch a ferry to Kefalonia or Zakynthos. What do you think?
E: Τέλεια ιδέα! Μήπως να κλείσουμε από τώρα τα εισιτήρια του πλοίου; / Great idea! Should we book the ferry tickets now?
D: Καλό θα ήταν! Ξέρεις πόσο κάνουν; / That would be a good idea! Do you know how much they cost?
E: Θα ψάξω στο σάιτ. / I’ll check the website.
D: Ωραία, οπότε εσύ αναλαμβάνεις τα εισιτήρια κι εγώ θα βγάλω πρόγραμμα για μονοήμερη εκδρομή στην Κεφαλονιά. Πώς σου φαίνεται; / Awesome! So, you’ll take care of the tickets, and I’ll plan the day trip to Kefalonia. How does that sound?
Ε: Τέλειο! Ήδη ανυπομονώ./ Perfect! I’m already excited!

In today's episode you will learn how to use the time when speaking in Greek. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about their busy day and then will give you some more clarity on how we use morning, afternoon, evening and night.
E: Είμαι πολύ κουρασμένη σήμερα. Έχω ξυπνήσει από τις 6:00 το πρωί και δεν έκατσα καθόλου.
D: Γιατί ξύπνησες τόσο νωρίς;
Ε: Έπρεπε να ξεκινήσω νωρίτερα για την δουλειά και αντί για 8:00 που φεύγω συνήθως, έφυγα στις 7:00 το πρωί.
D: Αφού ξεκίνησες νωρίτερα, ελπίζω να γύρισες και νωρίτερα.
Ε: Δυστυχώς όχι, γύρισα στο σπίτι στις 6:30 το απόγευμα.
D: Πολλές ώρες! Πρόλαβες να φας μεσημεριανό;
Ε: Ευτυχώς έκανα διάλειμμα και έφαγα γύρω στις 2:00 το μεσημέρι. Αλλά πάλι πεινάω και δεν έχω ετοιμάσει ακόμα το βραδινό μου.
D: Γιατί δεν φτιάχνεις κάτι γρήγορο να φας;

Ε: Αυτό θα κάνω! Εσύ τι ώρα θα πας για ύπνο;
D: Ευτυχώς σήμερα έχω τελειώσει με όλες μου τις υποχρεώσεις από νωρίς και θα κοιμηθώ γύρω στις 10:30 με 11:00 το βράδυ.

D: Το όνομά μου είναι Δανάη Σιάυλου. Ποιο είναι το επίθετό σου; / My name is Danae Sialou. What’s your last name?
E: Το επίθετό μου είναι Ιντζεκώστα. Τι δουλειά κάνεις; / My last name is Injekosta. What do you do for a living?
D: Είμαι δασκάλα ελληνικών. Εσύ; / I’m a Greek language teacher. And you?
E: Κι εγώ είμαι δασκάλα ελληνικών. Πόσα χρόνια διδάσκεις ελληνικά; / I’m also a Greek language teacher. How many years have you been teaching Greek?
D: Διδάσκω ελληνικά ως ξένη γλώσσα 4 χρόνια, στο Greek Language Experts. Εσύ; / I’ve been teaching Greek as a foreign language for four years at Greek Language Experts. And you?
E: Εγώ είμαι δασκάλα ελληνικών 8 χρόνια και τα τελευταία 4 διδάσκω κι εγώ στο Greek Language Experts. Από πού είσαι; / I’ve been a Greek teacher for eight years, and for the last four, I’ve also been teaching at Greek Language Experts. Where are you from?
D: Είμαι από την Ελλάδα. Γεννήθηκα και μεγάλωσα στην Θεσσαλονίκη, αλλά τα τελευταία χρόνια μένω στο Σικάγο. Εσύ, από πού κατάγεσαι; / I’m from Greece. I was born and raised in Thessaloniki, but in recent years, I’ve been living in Chicago. Where are you from?
E: Κατάγομαι από την Ελλάδα και συγκεκριμένα κι εγώ από τη Θεσσαλονίκη. Πριν λίγα χρόνια όμως, μετακόμισα στην Αμερική, στη Νέα Υόρκη. Πόσα χρόνια μένεις στο Σικάγο; / ’m from Greece, specifically from Thessaloniki as well. However, a few years ago, I moved to the U.S., to New York. How long have you been living in Chicago?
D: Μένω στο Σικάγο 4 χρόνια. Εσύ από πότε είσαι στη Νέα Υόρκη; / I’ve been living in Chicago for four years. How long have you been in New York?
E: Είμαι από το 2018. Τι σου αρέσει πιο πολύ στη διδασκαλία των ελληνικών ως ξένη γλώσσα; / Since 2018. What do you like most about teaching Greek as a foreign language?
D: Μου αρέσει που προσφέρω και μοιράζομαι τις γνώσεις μου για τη γλώσσα με ανθρώπους που θέλουν να μάθουν. / I love that I can share my knowledge of the language with people who want to learn.
E: Συμφωνώ μαζί σου εκατό τοις εκατό. Αυτό μου αρέσει κι εμένα στο επάγγελμά μας, ότι βοηθάμε άλλους ανθρώπους να ανακαλύπτουν τον κόσμο, ό,τι επίπεδο και να έχουν στα ελληνικά. Αλλά βοηθάμε και άλλους να έρθουν σε επαφή με τις ρίζες και την οικογένειά τους. / I agree with you a hundred percent! That’s what I love about our profession too—that we help people discover the world, no matter their level in Greek. We also help others connect with their roots and family.
D: Έτσι είναι! Έχω κι εγώ πολλούς μαθητές που έχουν παππούδες ή γονείς Έλληνες και θέλουν να μάθουν τη γλώσσα καλύτερα και να έρθουν πιο κοντά τους! / That’s so true! I have many students with Greek grandparents or parents who want to learn the language better to get closer to them!
E: Και αυτό είναι πανέμορφο! Γι’ αυτό αγαπάω τη δουλειά μας! / And that’s beautiful! That’s why I love our job!

In today's episode you will learn about our Greek Language retreat in Nafpaktos, Greece. Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about their summer plans and then will give you some more information about this retreat and how to attend.
E: Δανάη! Το καλοκαίρι πλησιάζει και δεν έχουμε κανονίσει τίποτα ακόμα! Εσύ τι θα κάνεις φέτος το καλοκαίρι; / Danae! Summer is approaching, and we haven’t planned anything yet! What are you doing this summer?
D: Εγώ θα πάω στην Ελλάδα. Έχω κλείσει να πάω στη Ναύπακτο σε μία επταήμερη εκδρομή για την Ελληνική γλώσσα. / I’m going to Greece. I’ve booked a seven-day trip to Nafpaktos for a Greek language program.
E: Αυτό ακούγεται τέλειο! Η Ναύπακτος όμως πού είναι; / That sounds amazing! But where is Nafpaktos?
D: Η Ναύπακτος είναι μία παραθαλάσσια πόλη μόλις 2,5 ώρες από την Αθήνα. Είναι ένα πολύ όμορφο και ιστορικό μέρος. / Nafpaktos is a seaside town just 2.5 hours from Athens. It’s a very beautiful and historic place.
E: Πωπω! Δίπλα στη θάλασσα! Και τι θα κάνεις εκεί; / Wow! Right by the sea! And what will you do there?
D: Πάρα πολλά πράγματα! Αρχικά, θα εξασκήσω τα ελληνικά μου ακόμα περισσότερο γιατί θα κάνουμε συνολικά 15 ώρες μαθήματα ελληνικών! Επιπλέον, θα κάνουμε και σεμινάρια ιστορίας, πολιτισμού, γαστρονομίας και μυθολογίας! / So many things! First of all, I’ll improve my Greek even more because we’ll have a total of 15 hours of Greek lessons! Additionally, we’ll have seminars on history, culture, gastronomy, and mythology!
E: Τέλειο! Εγώ όμως που δεν είμαι σε πολύ προχωρημένο επίπεδο στα ελληνικά, θα μπορώ να παρακολουθήσω τα μαθήματα; / Awesome! But since I’m not at a very advanced level in Greek, will I be able to follow the lessons?
D: Εννοείται! Υπάρχουν μαθήματα για όλα τα επίπεδα. / Of course! There are classes for all levels.
E: Τέλεια! Θα κάνετε κι άλλες δραστηριότητες εκτός από τα μαθήματα και τα σεμινάρια; / Great! Will you be doing other activities besides the lessons and seminars?
D: Θα πηγαίνουμε για μπάνιο στη θάλασσα, και εκδρομές σε άλλα κοντινά μέρη, όπως η Λευκάδα! / We’ll go swimming in the sea and take trips to other nearby places, like Lefkada!
E: Εντάξει! Τώρα θέλω κι εγώ να έρθω. Προλαβαίνω να κλείσω; / Okay! Now I want to come too. Do I still have time to book?
D: Εννοείται πως προλαβαίνεις! Η εκδρομή θα γίνει τον Ιούλιο και τον Αύγουστο. / Of course, you do! The trip is happening in July and August.
E: Ο Αύγουστος με βολεύει, εσύ πότε θα πας; / August works best for me. When are you going?
D: Κι εγώ για Αύγουστο έκλεισα! / I’ve booked for August too!
E: Τι ωραία! Θα είμαστε μαζί! Να σε ρωτήσω και κάτι ακόμα. Εσύ το παιδί σου πού θα το αφήσεις; / That’s great! We’ll be together! One more thing—where will you leave your child?
D: Θα την πάρω μαζί μου φυσικά! Θα έρθει και ο άντρας μου μαζί. / I’ll bring her with me, of course! My husband is coming too.
E: Ε τότε κανένα πρόβλημα. Θα πάρω κι εγώ τα παιδιά μου μαζί. / Then there’s no problem. I’ll bring my kids along too.
D: Τέλεια! Άντε μπες να συμπληρώσεις τη φόρμα ενδιαφέροντος! / Perfect! Go ahead and fill out the interest form!
E: Θα τη συμπληρώσω αμέσως! / I’ll fill it out right away!

In today's episode you will learn about the Greek carnival season and Clean Monday! Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation organising Tsiknopempti's grill and then will explain various traditions regarding the period before the Lent.
E: Εμ Δανάη, πλησιάζουν οι Απόκριες και πρέπει να οργανωθούμε! Τι λες να κάνουμε την Τσικνοπέμπτη; / Well, Danai, Carnival is approaching and we need to get organised! What do you think we should do on Tsiknopempti?
D: Σκεφτόμουν, όπως κάθε χρόνο, να μαζευτούμε σπίτι και να ψήσουμε στην αυλή. Θα πάρω τα κρέατα από την Τετάρτη και θα μπορούμε να στήσουμε την ψησταριά από νωρίς. / I was thinking, like every year, we should gather at my place and grill in the yard. I’ll get the meat on Wednesday so we can set up the barbecue early.
E: Τέλεια! Εγώ θα φέρω τα ποτά τότε. Ρετσίνα, κρασί και κανένα αναψυκτικό. Α! Θα φέρω και τις πίτες. Πόσοι πιστεύεις θα είμαστε; / Perfect! I’ll bring the drinks then. Retsina, wine, and some soft drinks. Oh! I’ll also bring the pies. How many do you think we’ll be?
D: Ωραία! Λογικά θα είμαστε γύρω στα 10-15 άτομα. / Nice! We’ll probably be around 10-15 people.
E: Ο Κώστας θα ψήσει και στο μαγαζί; / Will Kostas be grilling at the shop too?
D: Εννοείται! Έχουν κανονίσει με τα άλλα μαγαζιά της γειτονιάς και θα στήσουν μία μεγάλη ψησταριά όλοι μαζί. Θα έχουν και Dj, οπότε θα κρατήσουν το πάρτυ όλο το βράδυ. / Of course! They’ve arranged with the other shops in the neighborhood, and they’ll set up a big barbecue together. They’ll also have a DJ, so the party will go all night
E: Τέλεια, οπότε αφού φάμε στο σπίτι σου, μπορούμε να κατέβουμε στο κέντρο για το πάρτυ. / Great, so after we eat at your place, we can head down to the center for the party.
D: Ωραία ιδέα! Τι λες να ντυθείς φέτος; / Great idea! What do you think you’ll dress up as this year?
E: Σκεφτόμουν να ντυθώ πιλότος. Εσύ; / I was thinking of dressing up as a pilot. What about you?
D: Φέτος λέω να ντυθώ μέλισσα. Έχεις κανονίσει τίποτα για Καθαρά Δευτέρα; / This year, I think I’ll go as a bee. Have you planned anything for Clean Monday?
E: Θα πάμε στο βουνό με την οικογένειά μου για πικ νικ. Θα φτιάξω ταραμοσαλάτα και ντολμαδάκια. Θα πάρω και λαγάνα, ελιές και ίσως κανένα ψάρι ή θαλασσινά. Θες να έρθεις μαζί μας; / We’re going to the mountain with my family for a picnic. I’ll make taramosalata and dolmades. I’ll bring lagana bread, olives, and maybe some fish or seafood. Do you want to join us?
D: Ναι, θέλω! Θα φέρω τον χαρταετό και θα φτιάξω μελιτζανοσαλάτα. Πώς σου φαίνεται; / Yes, I’d love to! I’ll bring the kite and make eggplant salad. How does that sound?
E: Τέλειο. Την ξέχασα την μελιτζανοσαλάτα. Επομένως κανονίστηκε. Τσικνοπέμπτη θα τσικνίσουμε σπίτι σου και Καθαρά Δευτέρα στο Σέιχ Σου. / Perfect. I totally forgot about the eggplant salad. So, it’s settled. On Tsiknopempti, we’ll grill at your place, and on Clean Monday, we’ll be at Seih Sou.
D: Ωραία. Άντε και Καλά Κούλουμα! / Nice. Well, Happy Carnival and Happy Clean Monday!

In today's episode you will learn how we use the expressions I like/don't like and prefer in Greek! Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about ordering some food and will explain how to use μου αρέσει/μου αρέσουν in various persons and the verb προτιμώ.
E: Πείνασα! / I'm hungry!
D: Κι εγώ! Μήπως να παραγγείλουμε τίποτα; /Me too! Should we order something?
E: Ναι, αμέ. Τι λες για κινέζικο; /Yeah, sure. What do you think about Chinese food?
D: Καλύτερα όχι. Δεν μου αρέσει το κινέζικο. Πίτσα; / Better not. I don’t like Chinese food. Pizza?
E: Εμένα μου αρέσει η πίτσα, αλλά δεν αρέσει στον Γιώργο. /I like pizza, but George doesn’t.
D: Έχεις δίκιο. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι κι εγώ δεν την προτιμώ. Τι του αρέσει; /You’re right. The truth is, I don’t prefer it either. What does he like?
E: Του αρέσουν τα σουβλάκια πιο πολύ. /He likes souvlaki more.
D: Τέλεια! Κι εμένα μου αρέσουν. Ας παραγγείλουμε σουβλάκια λοιπόν. Τι προτιμάς; Κοτόπουλο ή χοιρινό; /Perfect! I like souvlaki too. Let’s order souvlaki then. What do you prefer? Chicken or pork?
E: Εγώ προτιμώ χοιρινό. Και πάρε και δύο σουβλάκια κοτόπουλο για τον Γιώργο, γιατί τα προτιμάει. Εσύ τι θα πάρεις; /I prefer pork. And get two chicken souvlaki for George, because he likes those. What will you get?
D: Θα πάρω τέσσερα σουβλάκια κοτόπουλο, που αρέσουν και στη Μαρία. /I’ll get four chicken souvlakis, since Maria likes them too.
E: Ωραία. Να πάρουμε και καμία σαλάτα; Σας αρέσει η χωριάτικη; /Nice. Should we get a salad too? Do you guys like Greek salad?
D: Ναι, μας αρέσει. Να πάρουμε και μία μερίδα πατάτες, σωστά; /Yeah, we like it. Should we get a portion of fries too, right?
E: Εννοείται! Σε ποιον δεν αρέσουν οι πατάτες; /Of course! Who doesn’t like fries?
D: Σωστά! Ξέρω ότι κι εσένα σου αρέσει η κόκα κόλα. Για τη Μαρία και τον Γιώργο δεν θυμάμαι. Τους αρέσει; / Right! I know you like Coke. I don’t remember about Maria and George. Do they like it?
E: Έτσι κι έτσι, προτιμούν πορτοκαλάδα. /They’re okay with it, but they prefer orange juice.

In today's episode you will learn various words that sound the same but have a different a meaning and spelling in Greek! Emily and Danae will first engage in a conversation talking about a small accident at a walk to the park and will analyse the spelling and meaning of these words.
E: Καλά! Δεν θα πιστέψεις τι έγινε το Σάββατο. / Well! You won’t believe what happened on Saturday.
D: Τι έγινε; / What happened?
E: Πήγα την ανιψιά μου στις κούνιες και μου βγήκε πάλι ο ώμος. / I took my niece to the swings and my shoulder popped out again.
D: Πώς έγινε αυτό; / How did that happen?
E: Ούτε που κατάλαβα! Την έκανα κούνια και σε μια στιγμή ίσως έβαλα περισσότερη δύναμη και βγήκε ο ώμος μου. / I didn’t even realize! I was pushing her on the swing, and at one point, maybe I applied too much force and my shoulder dislocated.
D: Πόνεσε πολύ; / Did it hurt a lot?
E: Ό,τι και να πω είναι λίγο! / Whatever I say is an understatement!
D: Το φαντάζομαι. Η ανιψιά σου τι έκανε; / I can imagine. What did your niece do?
E: Τρόμαξε η καημένη! Προσπάθησε να με βοηθήσει, μου έλεγε: “έλα θεία, σήκω σήκω!” και ότι θα μου φτιάξει φρουτοσαλάτα με καρπούζι, σύκο και πεπόνι για να με παρηγορήσει! / The poor thing got scared! She tried to help me, saying, “Come on aunt, get up, get up!” and that she would make me a fruit salad with watermelon, fig, and melon to cheer me up!
D: Μα τι γλυκό παιδί! Τελικά πώς σηκώθηκες; / What a sweet kid! How did you finally get up?
E: Ευτυχώς, ήταν και ο αδερφός μου μαζί, που είναι δύο μέτρα και με βοήθησε. / Luckily, my brother was there, he's two meters tall, and he helped me.
D: Τώρα όμως πονάς; / Are you still in pain now?
E: Πέρασε ο πολύς ο πόνος αλλά θα το κρατήσω δεμένο για μία εβδομάδα ακόμα. / The worst of the pain is gone, but I’ll keep it wrapped for another week.

Ε: Γεια σου Δανάη! Τι κάνεις; / Hi Danae! How are you?
D: Καλά είμαι. Εσύ; / I’m good. And you?
E: Πολύ καλά κι εγώ: Λίγο κουρασμένη βέβαια. / I’m doing great too, but a bit tired.
D: Γιατί είσαι κουρασμένη; / Why are you tired?
E: Είχα μία πολύ γεμάτη μέρα σήμερα. / I had a very busy day today.
D: Τι έκανες; / What did you do?
E: Το πρωί πήγα στο γυμναστήριο και μετά στον γιατρό. Μετά, πήγα στη δουλειά, όπου είχαμε πολλές συσκέψεις στο γραφείο αλλά και όταν γύρισα στο σπίτι έπρεπε να κάνω κάποια τηλεφωνήματα ακόμα. / In the morning, I went to the gym and then to the doctor. After that, I went to work, where we had a lot of meetings at the office. Even when I got home, I had some more phone calls to make.
D: Πωπω! Και τι ώρα γύρισες στο σπίτι; / Wow! What time did you get home?
E: Γύρισα στις 7 το απόγευμα. / I got home at 7 in the pm.
D: Πρέπει να ήσουν πολύ κουρασμένη. / You must have been really tired.
E: Άστα! Εσένα πώς ήταν η μέρα σου; / Tell me about it! How was your day?
D: Εμένα ήταν λίγο πιο χαλαρή. Δούλευα στο σπίτι σήμερα, ωστόσο είχα πολλή δουλειά και δεν σηκώθηκα καθόλου από το γραφείο. Κατάφερα να κάνω ένα διάλειμμα μετά από πολλές ώρες και να φάω λίγο. Μετά ήμουν τόσο κουρασμένη που από την ώρα που σχόλασα μέχρι και τώρα είμαι ξαπλωμένη στον καναπέ! / Mine was a bit more relaxed. I worked from home today, but I still had a lot of work and didn’t get up from my desk at all. I managed to take a break after many hours and eat a little. After that, I was so tired that from the moment I finished work until now, I’ve been lying on the couch!
E: Σε καταλαβαίνω! Να σε αφήσω τότε να πας στο κρεβάτι καλύτερα για να κοιμηθείς. / I totally get it! Maybe I should let you go to bed now so you can sleep.
D: Έχεις δίκιο. Καληνύχτα, θα τα πούμε αύριο! / You’re right. Goodnight, we’ll talk tomorrow!

E: Εμ…Συγγνώμη; / Um... Excuse me?
D: Παρακαλώ! / Yes, how can I help you?
E: Θέλω να πάω στον λευκό πύργο, αλλά χάθηκα. Προς ποια κατεύθυνση πρέπει να πάω; / I want to go to the White Tower, but I got lost. Which direction should I go?
D: Λοιπόν, θα πρέπει να πάτε προς την αντίθετη κατεύθυνση από αυτήν που είστε τώρα. /Well, you should go in the opposite direction of where you are now.
E: Είναι πολύ μακριά; /Is it far?
D: Όχι πολύ. Θα χρειαστεί να περπατήσετε λίγο. /Not really. You’ll need to walk a bit.
Ε: Δεν πειράζει! Προς τα πού να πάω; /That’s fine! Which way should I go?
D: Είναι εύκολο. Θα περάσετε απέναντι και θα προχωρήσετε όλο ευθεία προς τα κάτω, μέχρι το φανάρι. Στο φανάρι θα στρίψετε δεξιά και στο τέταρτο στενό θα στρίψετε αριστερά. Θα προχωρήσετε όλο ευθεία μέχρι να φτάσετε στην παραλία. Αφού φτάσετε στην παραλία, θα δείτε τον λευκό πύργο στο αριστερό σας χέρι. /It’s easy. You’ll cross to the other side and walk straight ahead until you reach the traffic light. At the traffic light, turn right, and at the fourth narrow street, turn left. Keep walking straight until you reach the beach. Once you get to the beach, you’ll see the White Tower on your left.
E: Πόση ώρα δηλαδή είναι από εδώ ο λευκός πύργος; /How long is it from here to the White Tower?
D: Περίπου 15 λεπτά με τα πόδια. /About 15 minutes on foot.
E: Μπορώ να πάρω λεωφορείο; /Can I take a bus?

In today's episode you will expand your vocabulary and learn different ways to say why something happened in Greek! Emily and Danai will first engage in a conversation talking about two accidents and will explain how to use the word "γιατί" and it's synonyms.
E: Δανάη! Τι κάνεις εσύ εδώ; / Danae! What are you doing here?
D: Είχα ένα μικρό ατύχημα με το αυτοκίνητο. /I had a small car accident.
E: Σοβαρά; Τι έγινε; Χτύπησες; /Really? What happened? Did you get hurt?
D: Οδηγούσα στη λεωφόρο και κοντά στη διασταύρωση, ένα φορτηγό μπροστά μου σταμάτησε απότομα. Πρόλαβα να φρενάρω, αλλά έβρεχε γλίστρησε το αμάξι, βγήκε από το δρόμο και χτύπησε στα κολωνάκια. / I was driving on the highway, and near the intersection, a truck in front of me stopped suddenly. I managed to brake, but it was raining, and the car slid, went off the road, and hit the bollards.
E: Πωπω! Χτύπησες πολύ; /Wow! Did you get hurt badly?
D: Ευτυχώς όχι, δεν χτύπησα πολύ, διότι φορούσα ζώνη! Ο αυχένας μου τραντάχτηκε και πονάει το κεφάλι μου. /Fortunately, no, I didn’t get hurt badly because I was wearing my seatbelt! My neck jerked and my head hurts.
E: Ελπίζω να μην είναι κάτι σοβαρό. Ήταν κανένας άλλος μαζί σου μέσα στο αμάξι; /I hope it’s nothing serious. Was anyone else in the car with you?
D: Ήμουν με μία φίλη μου. Χτύπησε λίγο το γόνατό της και τον δεξί καρπό της, γιατί προσπάθησε να βάλει αντίσταση στο ταμπλό. /I was with a friend of mine. She hurt her knee a little and her right wrist because she tried to brace herself against the dashboard.
E: Πάλι καλά! Το αμάξι; /Well, that’s a relief! How’s the car?
D: Αχ άσε! Το αυτοκίνητο έγινε χάλια. Μάλλον δεν επισκευάζεται. /Oh, don’t ask! The car’s a wreck. It probably can’t be repaired.
E: Δεν πειράζει! Σημασία έχει εσείς να είστε καλά! /It doesn’t matter! What matters is that you’re both okay!
D: Έχεις δίκιο. Εσύ τι κάνεις εδώ; /You’re right. What are you doing here?
E: Εγώ έφερα την κόρη μου, γιατί πήδηξε από το κρεβάτι και γύρισε τον αστράγαλό της. /I brought my daughter because she jumped off the bed and twisted her ankle.
D: Τον έσπασε ή τον στραμπούληξε; / Did she break it or just sprain it?
E: Φαίνεται να τον στραμπούληξε μόνο. Περιμένουμε τα αποτελέσματα της ακτινογραφίας. / It looks like she just sprained it. We’re waiting for the X-ray results.
D: Κι εγώ περιμένω να μπω για ακτινογραφία. Μακάρι να είναι κάτι απλό! Περαστικά της! / I’m also waiting for an X-ray. I hope it’s something simple! I hope she gets well soon!
E: Ευχαριστώ! Περαστικά και σε εσένα και τη φίλη σου! /Thank you! I hope so for you too and your friend!

E: Πώς πέρασες την Πρωτοχρονιά; / How did you spend New Year's Eve?
D: Πέρασα τέλεια με την οικογένειά μου! Εσύ; / I had a great time with my family! How about you?
E: Κι εγώ! Με οικογένεια και φίλους. Έβαλες στόχους για την καινούρια χρονιά; / Me too! With family and friends. Did you set any goals for the new year?
D: Όχι ακόμα. Εσύ; / Not yet. What about you?
E: Εγώ κάτι έχω αρχίσει να γράφω στη λίστα μου. / I’ve started writing some down on my list.
D: Για πες! Μήπως μου δώσεις κι εμένα καμία ιδέα. / Tell me! Maybe you can give me some ideas.
E: Λοιπόν, πρώτος μου στόχος για το 2025 είναι να τρώω πιο σωστά. / Well, my first goal for 2025 is to eat more healthily.
D: Θα αλλάξεις διατροφή; / Are you going to change your diet?
E: Όχι, προσέχω τι τρώω, αλλά θέλω να κάνω ολοκληρωμένα γεύματα και όχι σκόρπια μέσα στη μέρα. / Not exactly, I’m just being more careful about what I eat. I want to have proper meals instead of eating random things throughout the day.
D: Κατάλαβα, έτσι θα έχεις και περισσότερη ενέργεια κατά τη διάρκεια της μέρας. / Got it, that way you’ll have more energy during the day.
E: Ακριβώς! Εσύ σκέφτηκες τίποτα; / Exactly! What about you, have you thought of anything?
D: Μετά από αυτό που είπες, νομίζω ότι ο πρώτος μου στόχος για την καινούρια χρονιά είναι να αλλάξω το ωράριο του ύπνου μου. / After hearing that, I think my first goal for this year is to change my sleep schedule.
E: Δηλαδή; / What do you mean?
D: Δηλαδή, να κοιμάμαι νωρίτερα το βράδυ και να μην κάθομαι να δουλεύω μέχρι αργά. Να κάνω τις δουλειές μου από νωρίς το πρωί για να έχω χρόνο να ξεκουράζομαι σωστά. / I mean, I want to go to bed earlier and not stay up working until late. I plan to get my tasks done early in the morning so I have time to rest properly.
E: Πολύ καλό μου ακούγεται αυτό! Και υγιές για το σώμα σου! Ο δικός σου στόχος, μου θυμίζει και έναν δικό μου. / That sounds great! And healthy for your body! Your goal actually reminds me of one of mine.
D: Ενδιαφέρον, για πες! / Interesting, tell me!
E: Φέτος, πρέπει να ισορροπήσω τις ώρες της δουλειάς μου με τον προσωπικό μου χρόνο. / This year, I need to balance my work hours with my personal time.
D: Σωστό αυτό! Κι εγώ πρέπει να το κάνω αυτό! / That’s a good one! I need to do that too!
E: Τέλεια! Μπορούμε να βοηθάμε η μία την άλλη και να της υπενθυμίζουμε πότε χρειάζεται ένα διάλειμμα. / Perfect! We can help each other and remind one another when it’s time for a break.
D: Ωραία ιδέα. Μπορούμε να ξεκινήσουμε και τώρα να θες! / Great idea. We can start right now, if you want!

In today's episode you will practice how to say the time in Greek! Emily and Danai will first engage in a conversation talking about an appointment and time and then they will explain how we use the time in Greek. They will also give you some time to practice through examples!

D: Τι ώρα έχεις σήμερα ραντεβού; / What time is your appointment today?
E: Για ποιο ραντεβού λές; / Which appointment are you talking about?
D: Το ραντεβού στον γιατρό! / The doctor’s appointment!
E: Α αυτό είναι αύριο στις δύομιση. Το πρωί θα πάω τα παιδιά στο σχολείο στις οκτώ και δέκα και μετά θα κάνω κάποια ψώνια. Πιστεύω θα έχω τελειώσει μέχρι τις δύο και θα προλάβω να είμαι στην ώρα μου. / Oh, that’s tomorrow at 2:30. In the morning, I’ll take the kids to school at 8:10, and then I’ll do some shopping. I think I’ll be done by 2, so I’ll be on time.
D: Πόση ώρα θα σου πάρει να πας από το σπίτι σου; / How long will it take you to get from your house?
E: Είναι περίπου μισή ώρα με τα πόδια, δέκα λεπτά με το λεωφορείο και είκοσι πέντε λεπτά με το αυτοκίνητο. / It’s about half an hour on foot, 10 minutes by bus, and 25 minutes by car.
D: Α εντάξει μια χαρά. Εγώ αύριο δουλεύω όλη μέρα. / Ah, okay, that’s fine. I’ll be working all day tomorrow.
E: Α μέχρι τι ώρα δουλεύεις; / Oh, until what time are you working?
D: Θα έρθει το αφεντικό από το γραφείο και έχω πολλές συναντήσεις με πελάτες. Θα φύγω από το γραφείο κατά τις εννιά το βράδυ. / The boss is coming from the office, and I have a lot of meetings with clients. I’ll leave the office around 9 PM.
E: Ωχ κατάλαβα. Εμείς πότε θα βρεθούμε; / Oh, I see. When will we meet?
D: Μαλλον ποτέ χαχαχα / Probably never, haha

E: Έτσι κι έτσι.. / So-so
D: Ωχ! Γιατί; / Oh no! Why?
E: Εεε να μωρέ άργησε να με πάρει ο ύπνος. / Well, it took me a while to fall asleep.
D: Ωχ, κρίμα ρε συ. Ίσως μπορούμε να δοκιμάσουμε μερικές αναπνοές χαλάρωσης απόψε. / Oh, that's a shame. Maybe we can try some relaxation breathing tonight.
Ε: Ακούγεται καλή ιδέα. / Sounds like a good idea.
D: Τι σχέδια έχουμε για σήμερα; / What plans do we have for today?
E: Σκεφτόμουν ότι μετά το πρωινό μπορούμε να πάμε για μια βόλτα στο πάρκο. Έχει τόσο όμορφη μέρα έξω. / I was thinking that after breakfast we could go for a walk in the park. The weather is so beautiful outside.
D: Ακούγεται υπέροχο. Θα φτιάξω μερικά pancakes για πρωινό και φύγουμε. / That sounds wonderful. I'll make some pancakes for breakfast, and then we can go.
E: Τέλεια! Μου αρέσουν πολύ τα pancakes. Θα πάω να βάλω ένα πλυντήριο ενώ εσύ θα ετοιμάζεις το πρωινό. Μήπως έχεις ρούχα για πλύσιμο; / Perfect! I love pancakes. I'll go put a load of laundry while you're making breakfast. Do you have any clothes to wash?
D: Έχω ναι αλλά είναι πολλά και θα τα βάλω αργότερα. Α, μην ξεχάσεις να ταΐσεις την γάτα πριν φύγουμε! / Yes, I do, but it's a lot, so I'll do it later. Oh, don't forget to feed the cat before we leave!
Ε: Καλά που μου το θύμησες. Θα το κάνω τώρα γιατί αλλιώς θα το ξεχάσω. / Good thing you reminded me. I'll do it now because I'll forget otherwise.
D: Γιατί δεν παίρνεις τηλέφωνο την Έλλη, τη Μαργαρίτα και τον Κώστα μήπως θέλουν να έρθουν μαζί μας στο πάρκο; / Why don't you call Elli, Margarita, and Kostas to see if they want to come with us to the park?
E: Πολύ καλή ιδέα! Τους παίρνω αμέσως. Τι λες να ετοιμάσουμε μερικά σάντουιτς και να κάνουμε πικ-νικ; / Great idea! I'll call them right away. What do you think about preparing some sandwiches and having a picnic?
D: Ναιαιαι! Πες τους να φέρουν φρούτα και κάτι να πιούμε και θα ετοιμάσω εγώ τα σάντουιτς όσο θα είμαι στην κουζίνα. / Yessss! Tell them to bring some fruit and something to drink, and I'll make the sandwiches while I'm in the kitchen.
Ε: Ίσως στην επιστροφή να περάσουμε από το σούπερ μάρκετ να πάρουμε μερικά λαχανικά και φρούτα που μας τελείωσαν. / Maybe on the way back we can stop by the supermarket to get some vegetables and fruit that we’ve run out of.
D: Οπωσδήποτε! Χρειαζόμαστε φρούτα, λαχανικά, μακαρόνια, αυγά, γάλα, καφέ, χαρτί κουζίνας και χαρτί τουαλέτας. / Definitely! We need fruit, vegetables, pasta, eggs, milk, coffee, paper towels, and toilet paper.
Ε: Ωραία! Τα σημείωσα στο κινητό για να μην τα ξεχάσουμε. / Great! I’ve written it down on my phone so we don't forget.
D: Λοιπόν πάρε εσύ τα παιδιά τηλέφωνο και εγώ πάω να ξεκινήσω με τα φαγητά. / Alright, you call the others, and I'll start with the food.
Ε: Oκ! Φώναξε με όταν είναι έτοιμα. / Okay! Call me when it's ready.

E: Σήμερα είναι Πέμπτη! Γιατί ρωτάς; / Today is Thursday! Why do you ask?
D: Α ναι σωστά! Θέλεις να πάμε για καφέ την Παρασκευή; / Oh, right! Do you want to go for coffee on Friday?
E: Έχω κανονίσει για την Παρασκευή, δεν θα μπορέσω./ I already have plans for Friday, so I can't.
D: Το Σαββατοκύριακο τι θα κάνεις; / What are you doing over the weekend?
E: Το Σάββατο έχω κανονίσει να πάω για φαγητό σε ένα καινούργιο εστιατόριο που άνοιξε στο κέντρο. Την Κυριακή θα είμαι χαλαρά. / On Saturday, I’ve planned to go eat at a new restaurant that just opened downtown. On Sunday, I’ll be taking it easy.
D: Ωραία, πάμε την Κυριακή για καφέ; / Great, shall we go for coffee on Sunday?
E: Ναι αμέ! Τι μήνα έχουμε; / Yes, of course! What month is it?
D: Είναι Νοέμβριος. Γιατί; / It’s November. Why?
E: Πότε είναι τα γενέθλιά σου; / When is your birthday?
D: Είναι στις είκοσι οκτώ Οκτωβρίου. Εσένα πότε είναι; / It’s on October 28th. When’s yours?
E: Εμένα είναι στις είκοσι δύο Μαϊου. / Mine is on May 22nd.
D: Αχ τυχερή! Τα γενέθλιά σου είναι την Άνοιξη! / Oh, lucky you! Your birthday is in spring!
E: Ναι έχει πολύ ωραίο καιρό την Άνοιξη. Εσένα είναι μέσα στο φθινόπωρο, αλλα φέτος έκανε καλό καιρό ε; / Yes, the weather is very nice in spring. Yours is in autumn, but the weather was good this year, right?
D: Ναι πάλι καλά. / Yes, thankfully.

Yes, I haven’t even packed anything yet!
D: Ωχ, κατάλαβα. Τι πρέπει να κάνεις;
Oh, I see. What do you need to do?
E: Πρέπει να βάλω τα ρούχα μέσα στην βαλίτσα, να δω ποια παπούτσια θα πάρω μαζί μου, πρέπει να ετοιμάσω την τσάντα μου με τα διαβατήρια, το πορτοφόλι και όσα χρειάζομαι στο αεροπλάνο. Α πρέπει επίσης να καθαρίσω το μπάνιο και την κουζίνα, πρέπει να αγοράσω ένα μπουφάν γιατί θα κάνει κρύο εκεί και νομίζω θα είμαι έτοιμη.
I need to put my clothes in the suitcase, decide which shoes to take with me, prepare my bag with the passports, wallet, and everything I need for the plane. I also need to clean the bathroom and the kitchen, buy a jacket because it will be cold there, and I think I will be ready.
D: Ακούγεται πως έχεις ακόμα πολλά να κάνεις. Τι θέλεις να κάνεις όταν φτάσεις εκεί;
It sounds like you still have a lot to do. What do you want to do when you get there?
E: Θέλω να πάω σε ένα μουσείο, ίσως στο αρχαιολογικό μουσείο της πόλης. Θέλω να δοκιμάσω γλυκά από τον φούρνο και να κάτσω σε ένα παραδοσιακό ταβερνάκι. Θέλω να περπατήσω και να δω την πόλη. Θέλω να ξεκουραστώ κάπου κοντά στην παραλία
I want to go to a museum, maybe the archaeological museum of the city. I want to try some sweets from the bakery and sit in a traditional little tavern. I want to walk around and see the city. I want to relax somewhere near the beach.
D: Και πολύ καλά θα κάνεις.
And you should definitely do that.
E: Εσένα τι σου αρέσει να κάνεις όταν είσαι διακοπές;
What do you like to do when you're on vacation?
D: Μου αρέσει πολύ να βλέπω μουσεία και να γνωρίζω την πόλη που είμαι. Μου αρέσει πολύ να πηγαίνω σε διάφορα καφέ και να δοκιμάζω παραδοσιακά γλυκά. Επίσης μου αρέσει να περπατάω στους δρόμους και να χαζεύω τα μαγαζιά.
I really enjoy visiting museums and getting to know the city I’m in. I love going to different cafés and trying traditional sweets. I also like walking around the streets and browsing the shops.
E: Λοιπόν σου εύχομαι να πας σύντομα διακοπές!
