Welcome to Unit 8. In this unit we will continue the tradition of reviewing and introducing new vocabulary and concepts. In this unit we will see the verb "to go" and some useful places.

The Verb “to go” is:

Gehen.

Again:

Gehen.

I would like to go.

Ich möchte gehen.

I can go.

Ich kann gehen.

I can go now.

Ich kann jetzt gehen. 

I can’t go now. 

Ich kann jetzt nicht gehen.

To the restaurant.

Ins Restaurant.

I would like to go to the restaurant.

Ich möchte ins Restaurant gehen. 

Not now.

Nicht jetzt.

Can you come to the restaurant? Not now.

Kannst du ins Restaurant kommen? Nicht jetzt.

To say “I go” or “I’m going” we say:

Ich gehe.

Again:

Ich gehe.

I’m going to the restaurant.

Ich gehe ins Restaurant.

I’m not going to the restaurant.

Ich gehe nicht ins Restaurant.

The way to say “to work” as in your place of work is:

Zur Arbeit.

Again:

Zur Arbeit.

I’m going to work.

Ich gehe zur Arbeit.

I can go to work now. 

Ich kann jetzt zur Arbeit gehen.

I go to work and I do it.

Ich gehe zur Arbeit und ich mache es. 

I can go to work but I can’t do it.

Ich kann zur Arbeit gehen, aber ich kann es nicht machen. 

Where are you now? 

Wo bist du jetzt? 

Where are you now? I’m at home.

Wo bist du jetzt? Ich bin zu Hause.

I’m at home but I’m going now to work.

Ich bin zu Hause, aber ich gehe jetzt zur Arbeit.

When? 

Wann? 

Are you going? 

Gehst du? 

When are you going? 

Wann gehst du? 

When are you going? I would like to go now. 

Wann gehst du? Ich möchte jetzt gehen.

There are a couple of words for because. One of them is:

Denn.

Let’s repeat.

Denn.

Because it’s interesting.

Denn es ist interessant.

I learn German. 

Ich lerne Deutsch.

I learn German because it’s interesting.

Ich lerne Deutsch, denn es ist interessant.

I am learning German because I would like to speak it.

Ich lerne Deutsch, denn ich möchte es sprechen. 

I can’t come.

Ich kann nicht kommen.

I can’t come because I’m working.

Ich kann nicht kommen, denn ich arbeite.

I’m at home because I can’t come.

Ich bin zu Hause, denn ich kann nicht kommen.

Where are you? I’m at home because I can’t come.

Wo bist du? Ich bin zu Hause, denn ich kann nicht kommen.

When kann you come? 

Wann kannst du kommen?

I would like to learn it because it’s interesting.

Ich möchte es lernen, denn es ist interessant.

I think it’s interesting.

Ich denke, es ist interessant. 

Where from?

Ich komme aus Deutschland.

I’m learning it. 

Ich lerne es.

I’m learning it because I can.

Ich lerne es, denn ich kann.

I can’t do it.

Ich kann es nicht machen.

I can’t do it because I’m working.
