German for Beginners Unit 3: Intuitive Languages

Welcome to Unit 3. In this unit we will repeat some things from the previous units and introduce some more key vocabulary. Let's get started!

Transcript:

To make a question you invert the words. So the way to say “do you live” is literally: “live you?”. 

How do you say: “do you live”?

Wohnst du? 

Do you live?

Wohnst du? 

Do you live in Berlin?

Wohnst du in Berlin? 

The word for “yes” is:

Ja.

Yes, I live in Berlin

Ja, ich wohne in Berlin

Do you live in Berlin? Yes, I live in Berlin.

Wohnst du in Berlin? Ja, ich wohne in Berlin. 

To say “you speak” we say:

Du sprichst.

You speak.

Du sprichst.

You speak German.

Du sprichst Deutsch.

To make it a question we invert the first two words so it becomes “speak you German?” Meaning: “do you speak German?”.

Do you speak German?

Sprichst du Deutsch.

Let’s repeat: Do you speak German? 

Sprichst du Deutsch? 

The word for English is “Englisch”.

How would you say: “Do you speak English?”

I speak.

Ich spreche.

Do you speak English? Yes, I speak English.

I can speak.
