Ep 3: Seven Wastes in Lean Manufacturing

In this episode, I'll explain the seven types of wastes in any mfg company. We will also learn about 2 wastes in detail.

If you visit the shop floor you will be able to see these 7 types of wastes (instances where there are no change in the products).

The seven types of wastes are:

  1. Transportation
  2. Inventory
  3. Motion
  4. Waiting
  5. Over Production
  6. Over Processing
  7. Defects

I have covered Transportation and Inventory in this podcast. Other wastes would be covered in the future episodes.

Ep 2: Work Vs. Waste

In this episode, we'll learn "What is Waste Elimination?" Eliminating or Reducing wastes? You may be wondering what is waste? Waste is a very common word referring to something that is not required. Many times, people think of wastes as product wastes. For eg. in a garment company, the wastes they identify is cloth wastes that are generated in the operations.

There are so many other wastes that are present in the operations. Once we identify them, we would be able to reduce these wastes and when we reduce these wastes, we would be able to achieve higher productivity and quality.

I've given an example of Lean / Fit Person Vs. Obese Person to explain the concept in an easy-to-understand manner.
