Season 5, Episode 4: Undergraduate Summer Student Max, Whether to take the LSAT or not?!
Max initially moved to the United States for a year and a half to play soccer, which gave him a unique perspective on life. After returning to Canada, he chose to study at the University of Guelph, focusing on psychology and philosophy. His decision to enroll was made on the last day admissions were accepting applications, and it turned out to be the perfect fit for him. Now, as he continues his studies, Max is contemplating whether to take the LSAT and pursue a career in law. During his time with us as a summer undergraduate student, Max made a significant impact. We greatly appreciated his work on legal drafting, motion records, and client outreach. He also brought his creativity and energy to the team, even taking on the role of host for our web series, JD & Co. Hits the Streets! Max’s diverse contributions have shown his dedication and potential, and we look forward to seeing where his journey takes him next.

Season 5 Episode 3: Where are my students now? Yusra, my articling student is now a lawyer!
Yusra arrived in Canada on February 18th, 2020, from Pakistan, eager to continue her legal career. Initially securing a legal assistant position, the opportunity was unfortunately rescinded due to the COVID-19 shutdown. Yusra holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of London (2012) and a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Houston in Texas (2014-15). Before relocating to Canada, she worked for five years at a full-service law firm specializing in aviation and admiralty law. Her decision to move was driven by a desire for a more multicultural environment and personal reasons. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Yusra used the time to further develop her skills, including drafting motion records, mediation memos, and attending hearings. She also gained valuable experience in essential office tasks like scanning and filing. Yusra attributes much of her growth to the intensive training program she was part of, which laid a strong legal foundation that has been fundamental in her career development. Today, Yusra is proud to have achieved her goal of becoming a lawyer, continuing to apply her expertise in a personal injury law firm. The skills and knowledge she has gained over the years serve as the foundation for her continued success in the legal field.

Season 5 Episode 2: Reflecting on Co-op Experience and Future Plans - Kevin
Kevin was a co-op student at the firm while he was in grade 11 at Earl Haig Secondary School. He added a breath of energy to the office environment that we all appreciated and loved.  Kevin gained valuable skills from working in an office environment that most high school students will never have the opportunity to acquire.  During his term, he learned the basics, such as scanning documents, filing, photocopying and operating the reception phone. He also had an opportunity to draft letters, communicate with clients, work with associates and legal staff, observe a mediation, review transcripts from Examinations for Discovery and summarize documents. Whether Kevin pursues a career in law or not, he gained invaluable experience that we believe will assist him on whatever path he takes. Check out Kevin's co-op assignment on our Jasmine Daya & Co's YouTube channel.
