Ep. 21 - Summer Catch up: BIG NEWS!

It's summer, we're in Albania... and it's been to long since I've gotten on the mic. And guess what? There's a BIG reason for that! There are no right words or right way to share what I share in this episode. But I've been bursting at the seams wanting to let you guys in on it, and I am so happy I finally can!

Can you guess what the big news is?! I am sure some of you can...

Secondary update (which was still kinda big news) is that we soon have a Porto AirBnB opening up and I can't WAIT for the final photos to share with everyone! This was one of the most kismet projects I've ever worked on and I truly feel this soul connection to the work I did on it. Really hoping to open up more magnetic opportunities like this!

Ep. 20 - For Your Self-Care Arsenal: 5 Simple Mood Boosters

Repeat after me: Self-care is not selfish, it is essential!

In this season of my life, time for self-care can be scarce! I’ve been digging deep to carve out any extra time for myself. That time is precious and can be fleeting and I want it to be intentional and effective. So I’ve found myself over the last six weeks committing to a non-negotiable 20 minutes a day strictly for me, to plug back in and recharge my batteries. Maybe it doesn’t fully recharge my batteries, but it does give me a boost!

Time to myself and honoring my needs = a MAJOR mood booster for me

In this episode, I am sharing my current go-to mood boosters. Little rituals or practices where I can reconnect with myself, authentic me. Prioritizing what brings me joy in those 20 minutes - whether it be through movement, stillness, a ritual etc. - is what gives me a little juice to regulate the nervous system, feel a bit more grounded and elevate my energy for all the other demanding parts of my life (that I am grateful for!).

Add these to your self-care arsenal and don’t be afraid to use them!

Ep. 18 - Maternal Mental Health: Postpartum w. Yve Gonzalez (PART 1)

Before giving birth, I met with a friend and specialist in the Maternal Mental Health field from my home state of New Jersey. Yve has worked her way up in the industry over the last 20 years and is very passionate about her work and helping women during the perinatal time. IMO she is the perfect person to come on Late Checkout and enlighten us all on the very deep and wide ranged topic of postpartum and what we all can do to help ourselves or someone close to prepare for it or that is going through it.

We had an excellent discussion about what her industry does to provide helpful resources and groups to postpartum mamas (for FREE!). In this Part 1 special, she introduces us to what work she's done, what PMADs are, what to expect when attending postpartum groups, how to prepare for help needed in the house after birth, boundary setting with family and friends, the role of a doula and much more. We also spoke about body image issues post birth and the irky social media comparisons that we all can get caught up in.

May is Mental Health Awareness month, so please share this with someone you know who can benefit from the information - not just mommies but people who are the village around her!

Ep. 17 - Stop Dimming Your Shine by Judging Others and an Intro to Managing Scarcity Mindset

Ever caught yourself silently or not so silently critiquing someone's outfit, hairstyle, or physique? You're not alone. But what if that seemingly harmless judgment is actually stealing your own joy? In this episode, Laura dives into the deep truth of it: judging others dims your own shine. And we don't want that, we want to keep our shine lit and aglow!

Laura talks about the "subtle" nature of physical judgment and how it reflects more about our own insecurities than the person we're observing. She shares some of her own practical strategies to break the habit of physical critique, including shifting her focus to inner qualities or inner improvements to focus on.

Have you ever felt trapped in a conversation where someone relentlessly dissects another person's appearance? It's not an easy shift to gracefully disengage from toxic exchanges and to protect your energy.

At the heart of judgment often lies a scarcity mindset – the belief that there's not enough to go around. Laura unpacks how this "lack" mentality fuels comparison and criticism. Discover how cultivating gratitude can act as a powerful antidote, transforming those ugly thoughts into inspiration and creating a sense of abundance.

Join us as we dismantle the habit of judgment, take our power back, and learn to shine brighter by celebrating the beauty and uniqueness in everyone – including ourselves.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • Why judging others ultimately hurts YOU more than them.
  • Laura's techniques to stop physically judging others in your daily life.
  • The connection between scarcity mindset and judgmental thoughts.
  • How to use gratitude as a powerful tool to combat negative judgments and cultivate abundance.
  • Ways to shift your focus from others' external appearance to working on your own inner qualities.

Ep. 16 - Word Vomit: Self Awareness Around Friendships and Relationships

In a stream of consciousness, Laura talks about the importance of self-awareness, particularly when it comes to respecting another person's journey of self-discovery. Maybe our well-intentioned actions toward the people we care about can sometimes inadvertently hinder their growth... something to think about.

She emphasizes the crucial role of reflection in maintaining healthy relationships that feel aligned to us as we grow and evolve. How do we honestly assess our own impact on the dynamics of our relationships?

Laura also highlights the significance of understanding the unique nature of each relationship in our lives. Not all friendships are created equal, and that it's important to recognize and appreciate the different roles people play in our lives.

Ultimately, we hope this episode encourages listeners to cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships, leading to more fulfilling and authentic connections.

Ep. 11 - Embracing Change: Career Shift at 36 and Inner Guidance

Changing your career in your mid 30s is more common than we realize, but it doesn’t take away how scary taking that leap of faith can be. It’s natural to have these moments in our 30s where we check in with ourselves and ask “am I building the life I really want to live?” Asking that question is easier than answering it but it’s so healthy to have that check in with yourself and really make sure you’re aligned with everything you want to be in all areas of your life. In this episode, we dig into the career side of that answer.

Laura shares how this question and the answers that came up and evolved for her on her journey from being an accountant to now a full time travel and wellness creative business owner and podcaster. She combs through how the stages of change presented themselves and how she handled going through each one. And she gets super real about the rollercoaster of emotions and mindset shifts that happen from day to day during such a major transition.

The beauty of this episode is that this is all present time transitions that she is facing. Her journey to a new career began as of January 2024 and she feels passionate about wanting to share everything in real time. Sharing details in the now, helps others so much more than a high level version of the story in the future. She’s one year into the game and wants to share it all with you guys!

Episode breakdown:

  • Address how you’ve arrived in your current career and position, honor your backstory
  • How has the potential for new skill sets come up in the last few years? For Laura, this was seeing her creative pulse come up in different mini project/hobbies
  • What is it about your current position/job that makes you unhappy, or feel unfulfilled
  • The Pivot. The shift of mindset where you realize you want to leave and start anew
  • Learning how to identify what it is you want to do exactly, what your purpose is, what you truly want to become from a career perspective AND how to approach taking the big leap from one career to the next
    • Laura provides 6 specific questions that helped guide her through this
  • Inner Guidance - how to keep nurturing the answers you’ve found and plan your near future
