After dinner, a mother and her daughter went to the kitchen to wash the dishes. While they were washing the dishes, the mother would tell tales to reduce the redundancy of the mundane work that they were doing. On the other hand, the father and their son were watching television in the living room, without talking to one another.
Suddenly, they heard a loud sound, as if a number of plates had fallen down and broken into pieces. This was followed by an awkward silence that filled the house, with the father and son looking at one another, seemingly at a loss of words. Suddenly, the son looked towards the father, saying, "I am sure that mom dropped those plates."
Curious to know the reason for his son's statement, he asked, "But how can you say that, you're not even inside the kitchen." To this, the boy replied, "Because I didn't hear mum screaming or accusing sister. If it was sister who dropped the plates, mom would definitely shout and give her a long sermon about doing her work properly!"
Parents often dole out unjust punishments to their children, an approach which appears to be rather repressive in words and action. This negative approach in education, unfortunately, can be found all over the world. It does make one ponder- what if a parent or teacher breaks the rules? Are their children or students allowed to reprimand and punish them?
