Japanese Princess, Mako sama has married her long time boyfriend who is a commoner. Due to the special circumstances in which she would need to give up her royal title in order to marry according to the Japanese law and tradition, this has made somewhat of a big news headline worldwide. We took this opportunity to discuss how the Japanese people think about it, looked into the brief background of the Japanese royal family, and also compared the situation the UK also had with the Harry x Meghan marriage.

Welcome back!
We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
The No.1 trending hashtag on Twitter Japan as of September 2021, was #初めて持った携帯で年齢がバレる (#YourFirstMobilePhoneRevealsYourAge), fitting topic as the new iPhone 13 came out just days ago. What a world we live in! Do you still remember the first mobile phone you owned? Yutaro and I are still considered as 'Young' adults, but just by thinking how kids nowadays wouldn't even know the olden days when smartphone wasn't a thing yet, the idea of ageing is rather daunting...Interesting thing was, our most popular brands and series of mobile phones were quite different!

Welcome back!
We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
When you get asked 'How are you?', the standard textbook answer for all English learners around the world would be 'I am fine thank you, and you?' or at least something similar. But when Yutaro visited the US for his year abroad, he encountered this situation but noticed the answer he had in his head may not be exactly right in this situation!? Based on this experience, Cliff also remembers similar dilemma when he first went to the UK. When comparing the west against Japan in particular, the culture of 'small talks' which was the norm in the west does not seem to be the case in Japan. Do Japanese people not do 'small talks' usually? Listen to find out more!

Might be shocking to some, but yes, Yutaro and Cliff have experienced night life entertainments, specifically to a type of place called "girl's bar" in Japan (Nothing X rated!), We will talk about our thoughts on these unique places and services you could usually only find in Japan, a brief description and explanation of what type of places these are and how they work. We will also touch on the topic of the world famous maid cafes which Cliff also has experience in this too.

Welcome back! We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
We talked about what makes Japan the "greatest country" in the world last time ( turns out Yutaro thinks toilets are the reason), so this time we will talk about what makes GREAT Britain the "greatest country" in the world! This is basically the episode when Cliff brags and express his love towards the UK. This includes NHS, history, education, lifestyle etc etc. The list goes on but you get the idea, Cliff is proud of being able call himself a Brit. Though, please don't get offended! Please listen to this with a casual and opened mindset to allow Cliff has his little moment.

Welcome back! We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
The thing that makes Japan the "greatest country" is probably its toilets. Japanese toilets are world famous be it the number of them , or their robotic features and extensive functions. What are our thoughts on this? What makes Japanese toilets so great compared to toilets in other countries? Why does Yutaro has this obsession with Japanese toilets?? Hearing back, our love for Japanese toilets are almost questionable but we hope you guys would have a giggle hearing us talk about it.

Welcome back! We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
Something Cliff noticed when he started working in Japan, and still bothers him even now. (Though gradually doing it himself) Some Japanese people in the workplace make ‘painful’ sounds and noises during phone calls. Further elaborating on this, we will also cover some example phrases to use when talking on the phone in Japanese. We will also share some thoughts on some workplace etiquette that most westerners may find different to their home countries based on one of Cliff’s embarrassing experiences in Japan.

Welcome back! We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
As single men living in Japan, Yutaro and Cliff often eat out on our own for lunch or dinner, which quite frankly is a blessing as it is so convenient, cheap, and delicious. But eating out is actually a big deal in the UK, almost like a special occasion. We will do some comparisons in the style of eating out, what to do/what not to do in restaurants in the respective countries. Some of the unspoken rules and etiquette may be useful to you when you visit restaurants in these countries!

Welcome back! We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan. Yutaro brought up a slightly tricky question this time : Why are Brits so obsessed with tea?
Are they really obsessed with it though? When people think of the UK, afternoon tea is usually one of the things that pops into people’s mind. When people visit the UK, tea is usually one of the souvenirs you would buy. Although Cliff may not hold the true answer to the question, there are a few everyday life aspects and facts related to tea in the UK which we will mention.
PS. Cliff does prefer tea over coffee, likes it with a ‘splash’ of milk until it is close to the colour of caramel.

Welcome back! We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
One of the things that people would think of when it comes to Japan, is its transportation system. It isn’t like Japan has some unique mode of transportation that makes it special, but Japan does it differently, for good and for the bad maybe. We will be covering trains, ticketing, stations, buses etc in Japan with our own input of comments and thoughts on this confusing yet convenient way of life. This episode may be useful to first time visitors who are thinking of going to Japan as we will highlight various points that we have to be careful when using public transportation in Japan.

**Warning! If you are squeamish about bugs, especially cockroaches, some parts of this podcast may not be your cup of tea…
Most likely one of the most stressful sections for Yutaro this time. Yutaro had an encounter with his eternal enemy, the cockroaches. Join in to hear about the tale of his hours-long battle against the bug, which thankfully ended on a good note. Cliff also has a couple of stories and experiences to share based on his encounters with our insect friends, which may not be exactly pleasant to listen to…

Welcome back!
We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
Opening of this episode will feature Yutaro’s little trivia / chit-chat about the popular drama series ‘The Office (US ver.)’, followed by the main topic of ‘SHINJUKU MELTDOWN’.
‘SHINJUKU MELTDOWN’ is a term we use to mean getting completely drunk to the point of passing out in Shinjuku, a popular drinking spot in Tokyo. You probably got the idea already, this episode is about getting drunk. We will be sharing some of our funny personal stories of us in the drunk state (based on our fragments of memories and what our friends told us).
PS. We understand, all human beings need to socialise, but we do not encourage any social activities during this pandemic unless you are confident that everyone you know is healthy, carried out in a controlled environment, and that everyone is aware of the risks. Stay safe and please drink responsibly!

We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan.
Yes, literally there was a fire in my apartment.
Cliff experienced a rare incident of fire a couple of days ago in his apartment in Japan. As a foreigner living in a foreign country, how does he find the emergency services in Japan based on some personal experiences, while comparing it to the UK? We will also share (getting off track) on some close to life threatening experiences and stories.
Check out our episode to find out what actually happened in Cliff’s apartment, and more somewhat related but slightly off tracked mini stories and experiences we shared.

Nice to see you again!!
We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan. Enjoy our podcast!
Yutaro has been trying to live a healthier lifestyle (Cliff too with minimum effort), and he has been conscious of how good it is to have honey as a substitute for sugar. With some insider knowledge, Cliff has to bring Yutaro some bad news about the dark side of the honey industry, with references to a popular Netflix documentary ‘Rotten’. How pure is your honey in your cupboard? Would it be a problem if your honey isn’t 100% pure? How can you avoid choosing potentially ‘fake’ honey? We are no nutritionists so some nutritional points we mentioned may not be 100% accurate, but we hope this episode intrigues you enough to be aware of the honey you have around you!

Recently there has been an event in London that came to our attention, The Naked Bike Ride London 2021. In this episode, we will share our thoughts on these popular events happening in many cities around the world, but can they happen in Japan too? Cliff will also share his experience when he witnessed it first hand in London 2 years ago.
