Canadian star Paula Findlay joins Joe for a wide open chat that runs from her meteoric WTCS rise and the weight of London 2012 to the joy of finding her groove in middle distance racing. Paula talks about switching off the gadgets to actually feel her body, why Strava can mess with your head, and how meeting Eric Lagerstrom reshaped her approach to triathlon as a true small business. She breaks down the difference between time trial power and tri power, winning St George years apart in a faster era, and why Holly Lawrence brings the best out of her on race day. There is honest reflection on federation support when you are hot and when you are not, identity beyond results, and how COVID unexpectedly became a reset that led to Challenge Daytona glory and the birth of TTL. Paula shares Ironman plans on the horizon with an eye on Taupō, a playful case for downhill skiing as a fourth discipline, and the simple pleasure of coffee, chocolate, and quiet dog runs. Joe adds a cautionary tale about jalapeños before race day, plus a pitch for go-karts to fix bike descending. A candid, uplifting listen with plenty for pros and age-groupers alike.

Joe and Tyler reunite for an unfiltered catch up that runs from altitude life in Flagstaff to a three race swing through Australia, Malaysia and Japan. Joe revisits his chaotic first Ironman in 2012 with a two gel and peanut butter sandwich plan, and both laugh at the early days of jelly babies and Snickers on the top tube. Tyler talks through a recent crash, the grind of late season form, and the constant battle to keep weight on, while Joe recounts a family holiday in Turkey that turned into water slide warfare. They finish with a bold preview of the Kona women’s race, weighing Lucy Charles Barclay, Taylor Knibb, Kat Matthews and Laura Philipp, then lock in a friendly wager that ends with a beer mile in Arizona. Candid chat, useful numbers, and plenty of pro level banter.

Joe catches up with Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk after his blistering Super League run in Chicago. They unpack how team tactics shape Super League racing, why the swims get slower but harder, and how Tyler’s longer aerobic work is boosting both Super League and WTCS form. The chat veers into friendly ribbing about hairlines, weekend race plans, and then pivots to Joe’s Copenhagen tale of a great ride undone by a puncture and why he is now all-in on Nice. They trade views on descent hype at Nice, Morgan Pearson’s antics, and the steady drumbeat of doping news. The second half turns into a fun coaching thought experiment where Joe maps a Kona plan for Tyler and Tyler returns the favour with heat-prep, swim technique tweaks, and hill sprints. They wrap with favourite sessions from the last few weeks.

Joe Skipper is back and joined by Tyler Mislawchuk for the start of a new JYD series.
In this episode, Joe and Tyler dive into what’s been happening in the triathlon world, answer listener questions, and chat all things training, altitude, brick sessions, zone two riding, and knowing when to back off.

This episode covers everything from run drills and barefoot cooldowns to VO2 max myths, carbon shoes, and whether Jakob Ingebrigtsen is pushing his luck coming back from injury.

Joe and Tom catch up after the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt, breaking down the race and sharing their own recent experiences.
Tom reflects on missing his race due to car troubles despite being in top form, while Joe talks about his own training and upcoming races. They dive into the performances in Frankfurt, including Kristian Blummenfelt’s smart racing, Kristian Hogenhaug’s strong showing before a controversial penalty, and how tactics played out on the bike and run. The conversation also covers the chaotic officiating that impacted the race outcome, with both Joe and Tom criticising inconsistent and heavy-handed referee decisions.
They discuss the recent change of venue for the T100 series, with Tom highlighting the double standards in how race organisers portray different countries. The episode wraps up with a look ahead to Challenge Roth and some light-hearted chat about travel, training and triathlon culture.

In this honest and wide-ranging episode of the JYD Podcast, Joe Skipper opens up about his tough day at Ironman Austria. Despite solid training and a good taper, Joe felt completely empty on the bike and run. He breaks down the race from a decent non-wetsuit swim to a sluggish ride and a run that never got going. He suspects illness or the effects of altitude might be to blame and shares the frustration of doing everything right but still having it fall apart on race day.
Joined by regular guest Tom Epton, the conversation turns reflective as they discuss the emotional rollercoaster of professional sport. They talk about how rare the highs are, how common setbacks feel, and the challenge of staying motivated through it all. Joe talks about trying to reset and look ahead to Challenge Roth as a shot at redemption.
The episode also covers recent pro racing including:
Ironman Cairns where Matt Marquardt impressed with a comeback win after cramping early
70.3 Boulder with a big win for Sam Appleton and rising American Colin Szuch making waves
The T100 series where both Joe and Tom voice strong opinions about the current format. They argue for larger fields, open qualification, and fewer distractions like mid-race interviews

Joe’s joined by Tom Epton in Font-Romeau for a classic Junk Yard Dogs chat. They talk training setups, altitude benefits, and the contrast between Andorra and the French mountains. The pair dissect recent race results and take a closer look at the upcoming T100 San Francisco, including a possible repeat showdown between Marten Van Riel, Kyle Smith, and Rico Bogen.
They share candid takes on prize money, the shifting landscape of long-course triathlon, and finish with a chaotic deep-dive into the Enhanced Games and the absurdity of doping in sport. Unfiltered, scrappy, and completely on brand.

Joe is joined by Tom Epton to disect all the drama from Ironman Texas - Kat vs Taylor, a dominant Blummenfelt, and whether over biking cost more than just time. They look ahead to St George 70.3, previewing both stacked fields, picking podiums, and debating tactics, swim groups, and who can run their way to glory. Plus, gravel talk, team time trials, questionable life balance in pro sport, and plans for an Olympic-distance showdown in Font-Romeu.

Joe catches up with Olympic triathlon legend Jonny Brownlee for a proper chat about a career that has had just about everything. From running to school with a backpack full of books to standing on Olympic podiums alongside his brother Alistair, Jonny reflects on the highs, the tough moments and everything in between.
They talk through the golden years of ITU racing, what it was like training with Team Sky, almost switching to pro cycling, and why Rio 2016 still leaves a bit of a sting. There are plenty of laughs too, including a story about Alistair going out on the beers and then smashing a long ride the next morning like nothing happened.
This one is full of insight, honesty and great stories from one of the sport’s most respected and consistent athletes.

In this episode I sit down with Tyler Mislawchuk, a Canadian triathlete who has raced at three Olympic Games and has one of the most interesting stories in the sport. We chat about how he went from playing ice hockey in freezing cold Winnipeg to racing on the world’s biggest triathlon stages.
Tyler opens up about the tough transition from short course to long course racing and what really happened to him at T100 Singapore. We talk about some of the wild stuff he’s experienced, like learning to swim properly at 16, training through minus 40 winters, being written off by his national federation, and how he made his first Olympic team by going completely off the traditional path.
There’s plenty of banter, some good laughs, and loads of insight into what it takes to make it in this sport. Tyler’s story is all about resilience and I reckon you’ll enjoy this one as much as I did.
