Ep. 3 of JAFW dives into all the do’s & don’ts of starting a new year as a business owner and well, just a human being. A couple of key highlights from our end-of-year chat:
⚡️ Manage your energy. - Time spent reflecting, resetting & replenishing is always time well spent. Amidst the chaos of the season, be sure to take those much-needed moments to charge up your batteries - mentally, physically and spiritually - for a fresh year ahead.
⚡️ Treat yourself the same way you treat your business. - The same way you tend to the bloodline of your business (💵), it’s important to tend to your own bloodline - your health (❤️). Strategise for your business goals, but strategise from a personal perspective, too. And finally, consider generating new hobbies & interests as you would leads or clients for your own biz.
⚡️ Celebrate your highs AND your lows. - Flip the outlook on your downfalls/ lows over the last year, and instead think about how these can be seen as opportunities for growth. How can you use these ‘catalysts in camo’ to better your biz and yourself?
⚡️Give yourself space to build momentum. - If you’re looking to build new healthy habits in the new year, don’t do it cold turkey. Be sure to prep accordingly and make the time to incorporate this new ritual/ practice; be sure to give yourself grace too - fail forward. It’s not about the number of times you fall, but rather how many times you get back up.

Catch you in 2025, good peeps! 🫡 🚀
Episode 2 - lewwe gooo! 🚀🔥 This week, Matthew & I tackle a much more nitty gritty discussion - setting your own rates in the creative industry. A couple key takeaways from our open chat on all-things-pricing in your creative career: 💎 Do your market research. - Check out industry standards on both an international & local scale; don’t be afraid to ask fellow friends in the industry for opinions based on their own experiences. 💎 Know your minimum. - Understanding where you’re not willing to compromise will be crucial for negotiating with prospective clients. Have a baseline number that you know you simply cannot go below. 💎 Not everything needs to be monetary. - Think about your long-term vision/ goal if the client isn’t able to meet the budget at the time. The exposure element, additions to your portfolio as well as potential future connections should be taken into account in your considerations. 💎 Consider bartering. - If you’re passionate about working with a particular client, think about how you could exchange services/ products instead. Consider a mix where you’re both monetarily compensated, as well as receive an allotted amount of bartered services. 💎 Don’t lowball. - If you’re doing this to enter the market, that’s understandable. But with experience behind you, it won’t serve you, your client, or the overall market to undersell yourself in the long-run. 💎 Stay accountable. - Be careful not to bite off more than you can chew. If you do - be as transparent as possible with your clients if you haven’t met their requests; this will consolidate integrity & trust, allowing you to preserve and continue to nurture the relationship. Jess a Feww Words - The Pilot
When @marshiimallo and I first linked up after connecting through mutual friend & fellow creative @philarcher, it was clear from the get-go that our passion for contributing to Bim’s creative community, and a vision for further fostering an even more close-knit community of like-minded entrepreneurs & creatives was shared.
Alas, jess a feww months later - here we are, launching a series we’re excited to finally share with all you - both budding & established creatives - on our rock. Sharing these personal experiences and the key takeaways we now arm ourselves with along our journeys has become a reminder for both of us that we’re not alone, that collaboration always trumps competition, and that there’s no need to reinvent the wheel when there are supporters around you who done know wuh gine on! That’s exactly what we hope this series can do for you - for all of us, paddling along in the same boat 🛶. Lord knows it would capsize without each other.
Tune in this time bi-weekly for a feww laughs and some more gems with myself & @marshiimallo.
