Join us on our latest episode where we deep dive into BB and CC creams and the difference between them. We will also discuss various foundations and coverage types along with some SPF suggestions!
Welcome back! Hope you all had a great summer. In this episode we deep dive into hair serums, shampoos, conditioners, and treatments ss we head into fall and the colder months.
In our first ever episode we will delve deep into the world of facial cleansers. There are so many cleansers out there yet so little time to try them all!
Teresa: Hi Jenny, I’m so excited to start this podcast with you and to share what is mostly your knowledge and experience in skin and hair care. What are we going to talk about today?
Jenny: I can talk for days about cleansers. I am a serial cleanser. Cleansing is meditative for me, as is the whole cleansing process. I make it into a daily ritual. Some people may think that cleansers are a waste of money but from my experience they are the foundation to a good skincare routine. I would also like to point out that because I work out regularly I have to cleanse a lot as you do not want to leave sweat on your skin’s surface.
Teresa: Do you think your skin type makes a difference in the type of cleanser you use?
Jenny: Skincare is not a one type fits all unfortunately as our skin is as unique as we are. So we have gone through a lot of trial and error with products. I have dry skin, and wear makeup/sunscreen daily, not heavy make up but BB/CC creams, light foundations, colour correctors (save my thoughts for another episode!) so I’m a diligent cleanser. I have tried so many cleansers and have my favorites and I am a firm believer in a good double cleanse routine. I can only speak to dry skin though as that is my skin type.
Teresa: For dry skin, what is your go to cleanser right now?
Jenny: A tried and true general all around cleanser for me is Tatcha’s Rice Wash Cleanser. It doesn’t strip my skin but effectively takes off residue from first cleanse.
Teresa: I have combination skin, T-zone oiliness across the forehead and down the nose. And I’ve also tried Tatcha and it smells nice and works pretty well. If you want to try it for free, I know this year at Sephora one of the options for the free birthday gift is Tatcha cleanser. For Sephora, it doesn’t cost anything to sign up with the app and you can redeem your free gift with your loyalty card in store or if you buy something online. You know, sometimes when I’m wear full coverage long wear foundation, I typically use a micellar water after washing my face to get the last bit of stubborn makeup off. Sort of a double cleanse, do you double clean and which cleansers do you recommend?
Jenny: First cleanse is either balm or micellar water for me depending on the weather. Colder weather=balm cleanser, Warmer weather=micellar water on a cotton pad wipe your face until clear. Then I go in with sudsy low foam moisturizing cleanser like Tatcha. Another cleanser heavy on rotation is REN Gentle Cleanser and Youth to the People Kale Cleanser and Exfolikate Cleanser by Kate Sommerville (1x week).
Teresa: why do you use REN and Youth to the People cleanser 1x per week? And what day do you use these once a week cleansers?
Jenny: REN Gentle Cleanser and the Youth to the People Kale and most recently Inkey List’s Hyalauronic Cleanser are the gently cleansers I use daily when my skin is feeling out of whack. In the case of Inkey List’s cleanser it is gentle enough to use multiple times a day which I do on days I work out and I work out on the regular. Do not let sweat stay on your skin’s surface as you have just pushed out all the toxins and your pores are open! Exfolikate is the exfoliating cleanser with active ingredients that is why I try to use it once a week. We will be delving deeper into exfoliating magic in an upcoming episode so please keep an ear out for it!
