After the recent election I kind of went into a little depression. I know not everyone felt the same about the outcome but I was personally feeling pretty down, like many. And I’m a songwriter, so I deal with my feelings by writing songs. I had an idea to make a quick solo album just to get the music out, because I thought some of them were decent. But I honestly just didn’t want to spend much time dwelling in that headspace (unbelievable, I know). I had the idea to instead just record them quick for a podcast. That way I could dump them out into the world and then move on with my life. Yeah. I wrestled with sharing this but decided it was worth it if the songs can comfort others in a low emotional place. I hope this can be a light to you guys. To everyone else, please go listen to another podcast. I recently started a new songwriting project/band with my friend Joshua Irwin (Mossy Stones) and we just put out our first 10-song album, Luzita (NOW STREAMING EVERYWHERE). In this episode we dove DEEP into the writing and recording of the album during my recent week-long visit to where he lives in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The original plan was to record an EP of hymns Josh and his son Grady had been performing, but then we played around with writing a song, which turned into 2 songs, then 6, then 8, then 10. You know how it goes. If you've ever wanted to hear about how a song was written and then listen to the writers as they tediously continue talking about the same song for an additional 20 minutes beyond that, THIS IS FOR YOU.
