The Rams won the Super Bowl, but everyone is still asking, “who won the Super Bowl of Emo???” And dont worry, we finally have an answer. EP 55 drops tomorrow and you’ll get to see Ian get progressively more and more drunk since this was a Friday night record session while we figure out what is truly the best emo record of all time.
Big shout out to Joey from Kirby Grip on the first ep, Jonny Wanzer for the second ep, and my buddy Emmett for helping out with the finale.
The Bad Boy of Burlington Jonny Wanzer is back on the pod this week being a real old head emo gate keeper, and we love it. He even tells Connor one of his favorite emo bands of all time sucks. Lets fucking go!
In this ep we continue our breakdown of the top 32 emo records of all time (As selected by Connor and Ian) and we break out the bottom half of the top 16. If you like emo music and dorks who talk too much, this shit is for you.
Check out all things Jonny Wanzer here!
SEASON 2 IS HERE! Exciting right? We set this up like 2 episodes ago where Ian and I came up with the 32 best records to represent Emo best to us, then we randomly seeded them into a 32 team bracket and the tournament began. We have spent the last 2 weeks listening to these damn records so now its time to talk about what's good and what sucks. To break any ties we brought in our first returning guest, Joey from Kirby Grip!
Check out all things Kirby Grip here!
One full ass year into the pod, how wacky is that? So to celebrate we picked an all time big philosophical question, is Minecraft punk? While recording Ian forgot to make a really salient point that he texted me right after we recorded so check him out being not dumb below.
"I forgot to mention the philosophical beauty of Minecraft because I was in dumb guy character, but the whole game is a metaphor for life and existentialism. How life is inherently meaningless, but thrown into a game with no meaning, people find activities and meanings or construct their own." Sounds like dude has been watching the HORSE the band Earth Tour DVD again amiright or amiright?
Is Slackers (2002) a good movie? If you asked me 3 days ago I would have said yea, now…maybe not. But how punk is it? Idk but Ian took a piss mid pod so tune in to hear his weak stream.
We back on our fucking bullshit fam. Back to the 2 hour + episodes like we should have always been. Honestly, a podcast is only good if its like 3+ hours so we are on our way back to glory. Anyway, Ian and I both love emo and wanted to talk about it so here we are. We are going to once and for all answer the question, what is the best emo band of all time as of right now according to two idiots who barely know anything. Prior to this ep we made a list of like 70 bands and you'll hear us get down to a tight 32. We are gonna spend the next couple weeks pretty much exclusively listening to these bands and pt. 2 will be us getting down to the top 16. See you then dorks.
Intro Song: Remember The Sea of Tranquility by Jeromes Dream (live)
Outro Song: Untitled 7 by iwrotehikusaboutcannibalisminyouryearbook
We had planned originally to put this one on youtube and so theres a couple visual things on this one but then we decided not to. These things happen, and they are forgivable. But the music put out by MC Lars and his nerdcord contemporaries is not as forgivable.
Intro Song: Burning in the Undertow by One Last Wish
Are gamers punk? Is it punk to game? Is it more punk to play games on a PC or a console? Is nintendo more punk than sega? Who knows. This week I (Connor) kinda talk about that stuff but really I just talked about Call of Duty. Probably one of the worst things to happen to the human race. I honestly feel like that is a fair argument you can make. I don't even like COD that much but I havn't been able to stop playing it for like a decade. Could that be my addictive personality at work??? Who knows! Anyways, enjoy this solo ep as Ian's dumb broken knee and the holidays fuck us up once again.
Intro Song: Makes No Sense by Praise
life happens and ian went this one alone. all music episode, no jokes, just ian ranting about punk christmas music. he discusses early christmas punk songs, defends incels, and deep dives into a from first to last christmas song.
Have ya'll been naughty lil freaks or good lil dorks this year? Well don't bother lying cause the worlds number one pervert Santa has been watching you. But when Santa comes down your chimney if you catch him you can sit him down and listen to our newest ep with him so he can fund out just how punk rock he is.
Intro Song: I Don't Believe In Santa Claus by The Vandals
Outro Song: Rock N Roll Didn't Ruin My Life, Life Ruined My Rock N Roll by Merry Christmas
Beards, mustaches, side burns, mutton chops, peach fuzz and 5 o'clock shadow. All forms of facial hair. Much like music, everyone has their own taste. Some like it clean, some like it rough. Some like it wild and untamed some like it manicured and precise. But no matter what your preference, does having facial hair instantly make you not punk?
Intro Song: I've Got a Beard by Herbert Midgley, The Internet Legend
Outro Song: I've Got a Mustache by Herbert Midgley, The Internet Legend
Bicycles, most everyone knows how to ride them. From little kids to old ass holes to even those fascist pigs who kill unarmed civilians all the time ride them. But is it punk? Thank god our number 1 fan, male model, human and cacti salesmen was available to help. He also likes bikes.
Intro Song: Bike Test 1 2 3 by Bomb the Music Industry!
There are only two reasons to not eat bread. You have a severe allergy or you're a fucking loser. Pretty much anything you do with bread is good. Sandwich? Good. Pizza? Good. Pancakes? Good. Bread is just fucking good my guy. But...is it punk?
Intro Song: Old Man Samson by Whole Wheat Bread
This is like a patreon episode except we dont have a patreon. We both have been busy so we decided to mostly bull shit and get into a couple different topics from socks to bats (both kinds) to the stupidity of male social hierarchy quizzes. If you've made it this far, you know the drill.
Intro Song: Violation of Trust by DARE
Outro Song: The Higher the Socks (The Downer the Foo) by Foos Gone Wild ft Lil Mr. E
BANG! (that's the sound of the big bang) "Damn I guess time started." Said God/the creator/Ian MacKaye. "Is this shit punk? Hmmm I don't know. Better let Connor and Ian figure that one out." And here we fucking are baby.
Intro Song: Time Waits by Trapped Under Ice
Outro Song: Clocked In by Black Flag
This week Connor and Ian are joined by famed paranormal investigator Connor who also hosts this podcast. Is it a stupid waste of time hobby? Perhaps. Is Connor a scientist? For sure not. But does looking for ghosts on the regular make Connor any more or less punk? Lets find out in the final installment of our spooky themed episodes.
Intro Song: Love American by Give Up the Ghost (American Nightmare)
Outro Song: Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus
We all know Mothman, the Jersey Devil, and Bigfoot are cool and mysterious...but are they punk????? Hard to tell since these little bastards love to hide. But we thankfully had our friend Jim join us to really delve into the punkness of these mysterious creatures.
Intro Song: Ghouls Night Out by The Misfits
Outro Song: Demonomania by AFI (Misfits cover)
We didn't really talk about this in the episode, but the concept of found footage films is so funny, especially horror ones. A bunch of young adults get murdered in some fucked up way, their footage is later found by someone who sees these gruesome acts and then they think to themselves "damn, better make sure to give this a nation wide release so people can see these people get super murdered". But yaknow, they are fun. But we aren't here to talk about stuff being "fun". We are here to either open the gates of punk or slam them the fuck closed. Sorry that was aggressive.
Outro Song: Halloween- AFI (Misfits cover)
Italians, the people who gave us pizza, a loud but generally friendly people. Put are they punk? Can you be Italian and also punk? Are Mario and Luigi punk? Idk we didn't really get into that, however I can certainly say Waluigi is punk. One question we did ask of ourselves that many claim to know the answer to...are Italians POCs? You know us, only ever asking the HARD questions and providing barely thought out answers.
Intro Song and Outro Song: Woke Up This Morning by Alabama 3 (The Sopranos theme song)
What could be more fun than converting a van to live out of it and then traveling around the country, shitting into a bucket, not showering for days and eating like shit all while sleeping every night in a wal-mart parking lot and lying to your instagram followers about how sick your life is? That was rather harsh for someone who does in fact think that sounds cool. But while it may be cool, is the #vanlife punk?
Intro Song: The Downfall Of Us All by A Day To Remember
Outro Song: Dirt by Left for Dead
