In this week’s Bible study, we go through Leviticus chapters 21 & 22. We are still in the ‘Holiness Code’ this week looking at regulations for the priests themselves on how to remain holy. Included we look at how a priest might become defiled by death (the mourning process for the dead), as well as the sacred offerings. We will also talk about the restrictions and regulations on the priests and the animals that were to be offered to the Lord. Lots to talk about as we dig deep into the Old Testament.Outline: 00:09 - The Holiness Code - rules and regulations that are intended to set Israel apart. Lev 18.3-6, “you must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey my laws and be careful to folow my decrees. I am the Lord your God.”Lev 19.1-2, “The Lord said to Moses, speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God am holy.”BE SET APART.03:00 - Leviticus 22.1-3 - What are The Sacred Offerings?Leviticus 1-7 outlines the major offerings the Israelites could bring before the Lord in the Tabernacle. Included in each is provision for the priest and his family. The Burnt offering, Lev 7.8 - the priest may keep the hide. The Grain offering, Lev 2.3, 10; 6.16, 18; 7.9-10 - after a portion is burned as a “most holy” offering to the Lord, the rest is kept for the priest and his family. The Fellowship (or peace) offering, Lev 7.31-34 - a portion belongs to the Lord, then the breast and right thigh belong to the priest - the rest belongs to the offerer to eat in fellowship with their family. The Sin (or purification) offering, Lev 5.13, 6:26, 29 & 7.7 - a portion for the priest to be eaten. The Guilt (or restitution) offering, Lev 7.6-7 - same rules as the sin offering.07:38 - Leviticus 21.1-6 - Priests must avoid becoming ceremonially unclean for the dead.13:08 - Application of Lev 21.1-6 for us today. Do not let yourselves become defiled. Bible verses mentioned: 1 Pet 2.9-10; Gal 5.19-2; Mat 28.19-20 and Mat 7.5.19:04 - Physical Standards of the priests. Leviticus 21.7-9 - No wives defiled by prostitution or by divorce. Leviticus 21.10-15 - specifically has standards for the High Priest.23:08 - Leviticus 21.16-24 no one with physical handicaps can “offer the food of his God.” - v6 as well - the food offerings to the Lord.25:53 - Leviticus 22.1-8 - Clean and unclean27:52 - Leviticus 22.9 - Respect the offering. This reminds us of Nadab and Abihu of Lev 10 and their using “unauthorized fire.”29:18 - Leviticus 22.10-16 - Restricted distributions. No one outside the priest’s family may eat the sacred offerings30:49 - Leviticus 22.17-33 - Unacceptable Sacrifices. Animals used for the offerings must be unblemished - without defect - similar to the disqualifications for descendants of Aaron who can not be priests - blind, lame, deformed, or with bad testicles.Exodus 12.5 - The passover lamb must be WITHOUT defect. Jesus was the complete fulfilment of the Law - I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Jesus is our passover lamb. Biblical references: 1 Peter 1.18-19; John 1.29; Matthew 5.17-20; Ephesians 2.8-940:39 - Closing Questions: 1. Do you let yourself become defiled by sin? 2. Does your outward appearance earn you favor with God? 3. Can you make God love you any more? Can you make God love you less? Teaching Notes:
Read all of Romans 6
Rom 6.1 - Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? Read Rom 5.20-21. God’s grace (and free gift through Jesus Christ) covers a multitude of sins. So if we sin MORE, then we actually make the value of Jesus’ sacrifice greater… so lets just go crazy. Nope - you're missing the entire point and here it is:
Rom 6.2, “we are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?” - Paul is touching on the main point of the Chapter here, he will explain in more detail.
Rom 6.3-4 - Baptism.Baptism is a picture, right? What does it picture? Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection. We go down into the water, which symbolizes Jesus’ death and burial. We come up out of the water, which symbolizes Jesus’ resurrection.
Rom 6.5-7 - death to the old self.Jesus was killed and buried; in doing that, he became our spotless “passover lamb,” (“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Cor 5.21). BUT THEN, God raised him from the dead, to be the “first fruits.” The resurrection of Christ is critical! Just as he was raised from the dead, so too will we be raised to eternity in heaven with the Lord. Rom 6.6 - old self was crucified with him? YOU ARE A NEW CREATION. BORN AGAIN!“The body ruled by sin is done away with” - we are no longer slaves to sin.Person testimony - My obsession with pornography started in 7th grade.
Slave to sin verses:John 8.34, 2 Peter 2:19, Titus 3.3, Proverbs 5.22 and Ephesians 2.1-2. Satin wants you to stay locked in your chains.
Rom 6.7 - Anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Think about that.
Rom 6.8-11 - Christ died and was raised from the dead. He can not die again. So too, our old self has died, it's buried.
Rom 6.12-14 - DO NOT LET SIN REIGN, DO NOT OFFER ANY PART OF YOURSELF TO SIN AS AN INSTRUMENT OF WICKEDNESS. As Christians, when we accept Christ and are baptized into a new life with him, our old self is reckoned dead. We are no longer going to hell; we have a new destination at our death, and sin no longer has its chains wrapped around us. But SO many of us voluntarily put those chains back on. Kill the old self, put him to death, and embrace the born-again you.
Rom 7.14-25. You do not have to be perfect. I am not calling you to that, that's impossible. What I am calling you to do is to publicly declare the old self dead, and do the best you can to not allow that old sinful way of life to control your actions today. So, how did I break the chains that pornography had on me?1. I made a covenant with my wife, to tell her everything and be honest. 2. Rather than focusing on what I ought NOT to do, I focused on learning who God is.
Discussion Questions:
1. What does someone look like who is a slave to sin? How can you tell?
2. When in your life would you say you were a “slave to sin?”
3. How has a person who has physically died been set free from sin?
4. How can you, as a born-again believer, be an instrument of wickedness? What does that look like?
5. What does it look like to offer yourselves to the Lord as an instrument of righteousness?
6. What is a habitual sin that Christ crucified on the cross but you are allowing to still have power in your life?
7. Who has a testimony to share, of a victory over sin, that the Holy Spirit has helped you overcome?

Teaching Notes:
Colossians 1.24-29
Christ in you, the hope of glory! Not just a future date, although we look to that time of seeing Him face to face. But Eternal Life is ours now: The God of Heaven lives in our hearts.
1 Corinthians 6.17
But he who is joined to the Lord is 1 spirit with Him. So deep is our UNION with Christ that Paul explains, in 1 Cor 6, that to join our bodies with a harlot is to join Christ to one. The physical union expressed in marriage is a picture of the spiritual union we have with Jesus. We are the Bride of Christ.
Romans 8.28-29
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. God’s plan, working His will, IN US, is to conform (also can translate: transform)us to be like Him. This is not to copy Him, but to express the life of Jesus within us.
Psalm 103.7
He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.Moses knew why God did what He did, while most of the people only saw His works, and were not changed by them. Moses wanted more, to know God for who He is; “show men Your Glory”. And God revealed His nature to Moses, in a personal way.
1 Peter 1.10-12
Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to [e]us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into. (2 Corinthians 5.17 New creatures in Christ!)The prophets, including Moses, did not understand fully, or even experientially, what we have been given in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Even angels, who are in the presence of God, ‘long to look into’ this relationship with God. And as God is love, He is fully love, but He is also Mercy, Justice, Righteousness, etc. And He is not broken into pieces, but is fully each of these attributes to each of us. Our INNER LIFE verses our OUTER LIFE needs exploration
Matthew 11.28-30
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”So, because we are one with Christ, as He dwells within us, we do not have a transactional relationship with Him. Rather, we belong to Him, with Him, and for Him. And He is ours, He is our peace, and He, not a day, is our true rest. Are you able to stop in heart and mind-simply be with Him, appreciating what you truly have? To rest in Him is to not need anything.
John 19.30
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. The work of salvation is finished by Jesus, and this also applies to the provision of rest to our souls. We won’t experience this reality in a 2 day retreat, but we can ask God to reveal His true rest and begin to bring us to the full realization that we are complete in Him, and He is living in us.

Teaching Notes:
Who are you?
Your false identity promises life but leads to death, your true identity promises death but leads to life.God wants us to know who he is and who we are (who he made us to be).Jesus walking people from their false identity into their true identity.
Luke 15.11-32
Jesus speaking to tax collectors and “sinners” – Pharisees muttering: reinforcing the false identity – you are not your vocation, you are not the sum of your decisionsSon is driven by belief that there is something better – would rather have his father dead. New identity – disrespect of the one who loves me. Leave for distant land – separation from the fatherLoses everything, tries to fix the situation in his false identity.Comes to senses, but still operating in his false identityWhile he was a long way off, his father saw him – Jesus is with you right now, ready for you to come back to who he made you to be at any moment. Robe: son’s restored dignity, honor, and family statusRing: restored authority, identity, and sonship (entrusted to act on his father’s behalf)
Luke 19.1-9
Zacchaeus means “pure” oneTax collector: Greedy or corruptSmall in statureZacchaeus responds in his true identityA true son of Abraham: just “a fine American”?
Genesis 15 – the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision. Now look to the heavens and count the stars, if you are able… so shall your offspring be.John1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Discussion Questions:
The following are questions to contemplate while in conversation with Jesus. Listen to what Jesus reveals to you and note the answers
1. What do you believe about yourself or God that hurts you?
2. Negative emotions (e.g., fear, doubt, shame) can be an indication of false belief about yourself and/or God. What is the most common negative emotion you experience?
3. If you can, recall when you first remember feeling this way. What were the circumstances?
4. Confess your beliefs about yourself and/or God to Jesus. What does he say about them? Give you false beliefs to Jesus. What does He do with them?
5. Ask Jesus what He calls you (your true identity).
6. Based on what He reveals, what does he want you to know?
7. Based on what He reveals, what does he want you to do?
Leviticus 18 continues the “holiness code,” talking about sexual immorality. The holiness code is a series of chapters in Leviticus (chapters 17-26) that call the Israelites to be holy and set apart for the Lord. In verse 3, God calls the Israelites not to be like the Egyptians (where they had been) and not to be like the people in the land they are going to (the Canaanites). The Israelites are not to engage in unlawful sexual relations, and included in that discussion, Dave talks about what the Bible has to say about Polygamy, child sacrifice, abortion, and homosexuality. The application for the Israelites in Moses' day was that they were to be set apart for the Lord; our application today is the same. We can not be perfect, but based on being perfectly forgiven in Christ, we ought to aim for living Holy lives, not allowing anything that will derail or lead us astray in our lives.Outline:00:24 - heavy subjects to be covered today. You must read the Bible for yourself and come to your own conclusions. If you are upset by what is shared, ask the question, am I upset at this teaching or am I upset by what the Bible says? When we find ourselves in contradiction to the Bible, we can either change and follow God’s direction or we can rebel and go our own way.02:13 - using AI to study the Bible. Artificial intelligence is a great resource for doing research to see what the Bible says. 04:43 - reading all of Leviticus 1809:26 - Leviticus 18.1-5 & 24-30 - Sets up the rest of the Holiness Code. In this teaching, Dave Bigler quest teaches at Adirondack Christian Fellowship. He goes through Matthew 8.23-27 talking about Jesus calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee. Dave talks about the historical context of the Sea of Galilee and how quickly storms can rage on that water. We see Jesus, not worried at all, quickly calm the story and ask the disciples why they doubted. We see this applicable in our lives today as we face the storms that rage in our own lives, and how we grow from going through them. Dave ties this into short-term missions and how we grow from intentionally putting ourselves in situations that will strengthen our faith in the Lord. Dave concludes with a recap of his recent team trip to Malawi, Africa.
In this Bible Study, we unpack Leviticus chapter 17 in which we do a deep dive into Blood, from both a physical side as well as the spiritual side (as the instrument of atonement for our sins). In this Bible Study we walk through all of Leviticus 16 in which we study the Day of Atonement, also known as Yom Kippur (יום כיפור). The Day of Atonement was (and still is) the most holy day for all of Israel, although it was celebrated differently in Moses’ day from how it is today. We will talk about the foundation of this Holy Day, as well as what a scapegoat is (and who/what is Azazel).
OUTLINE:
00:13 - Personal update. Why am I wearing a bowtie?
02:37 - What is my job as a Bible teacher?
03:25 - Reading of Leviticus 16
10:30 - Leviticus 16.1 - Nadab & Abihu - Aaron’s sons who died in Chapter 10.
13:11 - Overview of the tabernacle set up, including the outer courtyard, the bronze altar, the wash basin, the candlestick, the table of show bread, the altar of incense, the curtain (or veil), the holy place, the holy of holies (or most holy place), and finally the ark of the covenant.
15:37 - What is the Day of Atonement?
17:05 - What was the sin of Nadab & Abihu?Watch the full study of Leviticus chapter 10 on Nadab & Abihu.https://youtu.be/ds7kyDHUq0w
20:00 - Leviticus 16.3-5 - the animals mentioned for the sacrifice for the day of atonement.
21:38 - Leviticus 16.6-10 “Scapegoat.” What is the Scapegoat? Who is Azazel? Is Azazel a demon? Why is there a discrepancy between translations of the Bible? The Hebrew word: עֲזָאזֵל ʿăzā'zēl (Azazel), the Greek translation (from the Septuagint) is ἀποπομπαῖος (apopompaios), meaning "the one sent away" or "scapegoat.”
32:07 - Jesus is our scapegoat! See verses Isa 53.5-6 and Heb 10.10.
34:13 - Yom Kippur (יום כיפור). A look at the most holy day for Israel, during Moses' day, during the first and second temple period as well as today (under the rabbinic law). Yom Kippur is still celebrated today; in 2025, it is on October 1 sundown - after nightfall on October 2. For full details of Yom Kippur traditions practiced by Jews today, visit:https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/177886/jewish/What-Is-Yom-Kippur.htm
38:46 - Conclusions; a reading of Hebrews 10.1-25. Jesus is the culmination and fulfillment of the Levitical law.

In Matthew 8:1-4 we see a man who had leprosy approach Jesus and ask to be cleansed. Jesus heals the man and instructs him not only not to tell anyone what he did but also to go to the priests and give the offerings commanded by Moses. In this Bible study we will unpack the context of what this meant for the leper in that day. We will look at Leprosy (Hansen's disease) as it was in the days of Moses, the days of Jesus and for us today. Finally we will look at this passage for modern application for us today, looking at leprosy as a picture of sin, and how we can see our own story today in Jesus healing the leper. This video was filmed at Adirondack Christian Fellowship. Life can be very stressful; there are many things we face that can cause anxiety. The Apostle Paul calls us not to be anxious about anything, but rather, to submit it to God and let his peace guard our hearts and our minds. In this study, we break down Philippians 4.4-7 looking at Paul’s words of encouragement in times of trouble.
Outline:
01:05 - Background on Philippians
04:10 - Philippians 4.4. “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Bible verses referenced: Rom 3.10, 23; Isa 64.6; Rom 6.23
15:15 - Philippians 4.5. “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” Bible verses referenced: Matt 11.29 and 2 Peter 3.9-10
18:10 - Philippians 4.6. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Bible verses referenced: Psalm 145.18-20.
24:22 - Philippians 4.7. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard

In this Bible Study, we cover Leviticus chapter 15, which talks all about bodily discharges; both regularly occurring discharges as well as irregular ones. We will look at these in the context of being “clean” as it relates to the Israelites' ability to worship in the Tabernacle. We will also look at modern applications as we look at our filthy rags and our need to be cleansed.
Outline:
01:39 - Introduction
02:14 - What does clean and unclean mean in Leviticus?
07:04 - How does a “discharge” differ from a “defiling skin disease” of Lev 13-14. Psalm 19.12 - “cleanse me from my hidden faults.”
08:05 - Leviticus 15.1-3
08:42 - What is an unusual bodily discharge? Word study: “Body” bāśār בָּשָׂר. “Discharge” zûḇ זוּב. Ex 3.8.
12:57 - Leviticus 15.4-12. Unusual bodily discharges for men and the repercussions of them. What are examples of bodily discharges that Leviticus 15.1-12 is talking about? Diarrhea, Puss, and Gonorrhea?
17:18 - Leviticus 15.13-15. Outline of what must be done for a man who has an unusual (not regular) bodily discharge to be cleansed. Included waiting 7 days, cleaning, and then bringing an offering (2 doves or 2 young pigeons); one for a sin offering, the other for a burnt offering.1
9:09 - Leviticus 15.16-18. Regularly occurring male discharges.
21:51 - Leviticus 15.19-24. Regularly occurring female discharges.
24:00 - Leviticus 15.25-27. Irregularly occurring female discharges.
25:07 - Leviticus 15.28-30. Outline of what a woman must do to be cleansed from irregular discharges (including waiting 7 days, cleaning, and then bringing an offering (2 doves or 2 young pigeons); one for a sin offering, the other for a burnt offering.
26:35 - Luke 8.40-48 - The woman who had been bleeding for 12 years who touched Jesus' hem and was healed. Heb 10:10, “we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Rom 5.8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”
31:56 - Leviticus 15.31-33. God designed the human body, he designed the reproductive system, both the male system as well as the female system. They are amazing and beautiful and not to be ashamed of. The same is true with sex; it is designed by God and is an awesome gift from the Lord. Gen 1 & 2 we see God create them MALE & FEMALE (just 2), and they are given the charge to “be fruitful and increase in number” (Gen 2.28). Gen 2.24-25, “a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Matt 19.5-6, Jesus restates this and adds in “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Heb 13.4 - “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” More on Sexual Immorality read 1 Cor 6.9-20. 1 Cor 7.3-5 - actually instructs married couples to have regular intercourse. Seriously, read it. Sex is an amazing, beautiful thing that is a gift from God for us to experience in marriage.
38:50 - Application. Lev 15.31, “You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean.”We need to avoid things that keep us unclean today as well. A modern application for this today is looking at how sin makes us “unclean” and hinders us. Hebrews 12.1-3. We today can approach the lord in our filthy rags, but we also ought to avoid intentionally messing around with things that will trip us up.

Leprosy is a picture (a metaphor for sin). We see in Leviticus 13-14 a description of leprosy (defiling skin diseases) that paints a picture of what sin is like and what has been done for us as a result of it.We see in Leviticus 13 that Sin Spreads (Lev 13.5-8), and that Sin Defiles & Isolates us (Lev 13.44-46). Sin desensatises us, it deadens our nerves (just like leprosy does). We see in Leviticus 14 the process that the sick person went through to be cleansed: First, the Priest went to the leper (Lev 14.1-3) - Jesus came to us (Luke 19.10, and Matt 18.12-14). Second, a sacrifice was offered (Lev 14.8-20) - Jesus is our sacrificial lamb (Heb 9.22, 10.1-25; John 1.29; 1 Cor 5.7; 1 John 4.9-10, and John 3.16). Three, the sick person had to do something; they had to act. In Leviticus, they were responsible for cleaning themselves (Lev 14.8-9). Today, we too have to do something, we have to act, and that simple act is accepting the sacrifice that was made in our place (Rom 10.9-10, 13).In looking at Leviticus 13 and 14, we see a picture of what sin does to us, and what God has done to free us from it!
Outline:
00:45 - Introduction to Leprosy (disease) as a picture of sin.
02:23 - Sin is more than skin deep. Lev 13.3-4, 25, 30-32, 34. Jer 17.9 - “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
08:37 - Sin spreads Bible Verses: Lev 13.5-8, 22-23, 27-28, 32, 34-36, 51, 53, 55; 14.39, 44, 48; James 1.14-15; Mat 16.5-12; Gal 5.9, and Rom 1.18-32.15:53 - Sin Defiles
Bible Verses: Lev 13.44-46; Num 32.23, Isa 6,.5 and 64.6.
20:17 - Sin isolates
Bible Verse: Lev 13.44-46.22:58 - Sin deadens our nerves - causes us to lose sensitivity to right and wrong.
Bible Verse: Eph 4.17-19.
25:53 - SALVATION
26:58 - The priest went to the leperBible Verses: Lev 14.1-3; Luke 19.10, and Matt 18.12-14.
28:15 - The victim offers a sacrifice
Bible Verses: Lev 14.8-20; Heb 9.22, 10.1-25; John 1.29; Ex 11-12; 1 Cor 5.7; 1 John 4.9-10, and John 3.16.

There is great symbolism in the Old Testament. In Leviticus 14.3-7 we see a cleansing ceremony to a person healed of leprosy (or a defiling skin disease). In that ceremony, there are two birds, a clay pot with fresh water as well as cedar wood, scarlet yarn and hyssop. One can quickly read over these elements and their potential symbolism, pointing to the gospel narrative. Dave breaks down each of these elements and their potential symbolism.
Outline:
03:37 - The Sacrificial Bird - symbolizing Jesus crucified
04:12 - The Fresh Water - symbolizing living water, fulfilled in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
John 4.1-26, and John 7.37-39
06:21 - The Clay Pot - we are earthen vessels.
2 Cor 4.7, Jer 18.1-6, and Isa 64.8
07:59 - The Cedar Wood - symbolizing the Cross
08:05 - The Scarlet Yarn - symbolizing the Gospel narrative woven throughout the entire Bible
09:09 - The Hyssop - found also at Passover and Calvary
09:42 - The Released Bird - symbolizing Jesus' resurrection and ascension

In this Bible Study, we look at Leviticus chapter 14 as we continue our “clean and unclean” segment of Leviticus. In chapter 13, we saw the ways that a person would be labeled “unclean” - due to a defiling skin disease. In Chapter 14, we see how a person can be declared “clean” after having a defiling skin disease.
Outline:
00:15 - Outline of Leviticus 13 & 14 and recap.
03:00 - What did it mean to be considered “unclean?” Was an “unclean” person not loved by God or by the Israelite community?
04:20 - Jesus heals people with Leprosy
09:37 - Leviticus 14.1-6 - Cedarwood, scarlet yarn, hyssop - why these three??? all could be used for cleansing? Num 19.6 uses the same three things.
11:36 - Leviticus 14.7-10 - Why the two birds? For you Bible scholars, this may remind you of something; Leviticus 16.7-10 - Scapegoat
14:14 - Leviticus 14.8-9 - bathe twice, shave twice. They must still isolate outside their own tent for 7 days, perhaps this was just to ensure the defiling skin issues did not come back?
15:47 - Leviticus 14.10-20 (reading of)
17:58 - Leviticus 14.10-11 - What did the person to be cleansed need to bring?
18:39 - Leviticus 14.14-17 - Blood (from the guilt offering) - lobe of right ear, right thumb, and right big toe. The same with the oil (on the right ear, thumb, and big toe). WHY?
Exodus 29.20 and Leviticus 8.23 are similar in correlation to the consecration and ordination of the tabernacle priests.
20:28 - Offerings - We see the guilt offering, the sin offering, the burnt offering, the grain offering (as well as a wave offering). This restores the patient to full fellowship as a member of the covenant community.
22:24 - Leviticus 14.21-32 - Provision for the poor.
25:11 - Leviticus 14.33-48 - mold in a house or building
31:13 - Leviticus 14.49-53 - The cleansing process is the same for the house as it is for a person in verses 4-7. It is nearly identical, though there are some differences.
34:00 - Leviticus 14.54-57 - conclusions
34:46 - Application - Thanks be to God that we are cleaned (washed) by the blood of Jesus Christ!

In this Bible study, we look at Leviticus chapter 13 and the process that the priest would go through to diagnose defiling skin diseases (or “Leprosy” as labeled in some Bible translations). We look at Leprosy (known today as Hansen’s disease) and walk through each of the “defiling skin diseases” outlined in the chapter. We also talk about why a person with Leprosy had to call out “unclean-unclean” as they walked down the street.
Outline:
01:45 - CLEAN / UNCLEAN - do not confuse “unclean” with being judged by God, or with being “unloved” by the community. To be unclean meant you were not cleared to approach the Lord in the Tabernacle. You were not cleared for entry, AND if you were labeled “unclean” and you had contact with anyone who Was clean, they are now unclean as well and have to go through the cleansing rites to become clean (cleared to approach the Lord).
04:41 -“Leprosy” or “Defiling Skin Diseases?” Why do the translations differ in what word they use for chapters 13 and 14? The Hebrew word for defiling skin disease, traditionally translated as 'leprosy,' was used for various diseases affecting the skin.
05:55 - define the Word “Leprosy” Hebrew: TṢāraʿaṯh “tsaw-rah'-ath” צָרַעַת
Leprosy is a real thing. It existed in Jesus' day (as it does today). Today it is known as Hansen’s disease because the word “Leprosy” has such a negative connotation to it.

39:49 - What does Wrap and Woof mean in the Bible? This is a term used when weaving fabric. The warp is the strand that goes up and down, and the woof is the strand that goes lengthwise or across. The idea is that you are to examine very closely, both the vertical and the horizontal threads of the woven or knitted material.

We are continuing our way through the clean and unclean segment of Leviticus (chapters 11-15). In this Bible study we look at the purification rites associated with giving birth to a child. Dave talks again about what it means to be “clean” and “unclean.” Dave does spend a good deal of time talking about circumcision, as it is solidified in the law as a requirement of all Jewish boys on the 8th day. What does Paul mean when he speaks of circumcision of the heart?
Outline:
00:13 - Introduction Clean & unclean segment 11-15
01:14 - Unclean is not bad, and clean is not necessarily “good” it is simply a label for a person to know whether they have properly prepared, set themselves apart to go to the tabernacle and participate in a worship service. It is neither bad nor good, but more so “clear” or “not clear” for worship. God made provision for the cleansing and restoration of anyone who became “unclean” or “defiled.” Remember, unclean is not necessarily “bad.” In chapter 15, we will talk about discharges, which have to do with both the male and the female reproductive system, which God designed and called “good.”
05:23 - Read all of Leviticus 12
06:47 - Blood is important as it relates to the sacrifices as well as to cleanliness.
07:43 - Leviticus 12.2 - A son or a daughterCeremonially unclean for 7 days. (8th day, circumcise the boy - we will discuss) - Then wait 33 days before going to the temple. A total wait of 40 days.
07:43 - Why was there a period of time after a woman gives birth when she is called “unclean?”
10:30 - Why is there a difference between a son and a daughter as it relates to how long the purification time should be?
13:16 - Leviticus 12.3 - Circumcision
Gen 17:10-14; 12.2-3; 21.4; Luke 2.21; Jer 4.4; Phil 3.4-9; Rom 2.25-29; Col 2.10-11; Eph 2.8-9
Paul is saying that circumcision is an outward sign of being set apart for God. But even if you have that outward sign, yet inside are sinful, the outward sign is pointless. A circumcised body and a sinful heart are at odds with each other.Paul says that we ought to focus on the condition of the heart. You are the Lord’s, do you acknowledge that with your heart and your lips? Don’t worry about your outward signs, your “good deeds.” Worry first about your heart and your personal, intimate relationship with God.

We start a new segment of Leviticus, looking at what is “clean” and “unclean” for the Israelites. We must remember that “unclean” is not necessarily bad, it just means that it is not holy or fit for use in worship of God in the tabernacle. Being “clean” or “unclean” was a designation related to someone’s ability to participate in the worship at the tabernacle. If you were “unclean,” you had to go through the cleansing process to become “clean” in order to enter the tabernacle courtyard. It was all about being set apart and prepared to approach the Lord. In this Bible study, we look at the first of 5 chapters on cleanliness, looking at what foods are clean and unclean.
Outline:
06:16 - Overview of Leviticus 11-15
Leviticus 11 - food - what is clean and may be eaten, and what is unclean and not to be eaten
Leviticus 12 - cleanliness and purification after childbirth
Leviticus 13 - skin diseases, fungus & molds
Leviticus 14 - cleansing skin diseases, fungus & molds
Leviticus 15 - discharges causing uncleanness
01:17 - Why are these chapters on cleanliness here? Why are they so odd at times? What was their purpose? Why did all this even exist in the first place - IT MAKES NO SENSE. Give me just a few minutes and I will give a quick explanationThe principal duties of the Israelite priesthood
1. Distinguish between the Holy and the common
2. Distinguish between the unclean and the clean
3. Teach the decrees of the Lord
Exo 19.6 God calls Israel to be a Holy nation, a kingdom of priests
Gal 3.23-25, The law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. KJV - Schoolmaster. AMP - tutor and our disciplinarian. RSV - Custodian. TLB - teacher and guide.
Application:
This call to be set apart did not just exist for the Jews in Moses' day. It exists for us today. Jesus, in the opening of the Sermon on the Mount, he said, Mat 5.14-16 - “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.”
13:44 - Leviticus 11.1-3
What is a divided hoof?
What is chewing the cud?
16:09 - Leviticus 11.4-5
Hyrax - A small rabbit-like creature (Coney, rock badger, or a sharphan).Psa 104.18Pro 30.26
17:11 - Leviticus 11.6 - Do rabbits chew the cud? (coprophagy)
18:25 - Leviticus - 11.7-8 - pigs are unclean
18:38 - Leviticus 11.9-12 - Fish vs shellfish
20:36 - Leviticus 11.13-19 - Birds
21:39 - Leviticus 11.20-23 - Insects - Locust, Katydid, cricket or grasshopper Mat 3.4 - John the Baptist ate locusts and wild honey
24:59 - Lev 11.24-43 - Carcasses - unclean until evening
29:43 - What is Shechita?
30:29 - did the Jews cause the bubonic plague?
31:52 - Conclusions
Acts 11.4-18 (Acts 10.1 - 11.18)
Mark 7.14-19, “nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them”
