Iran In Context
Episode 01 — Orly Noy: A View from Jerusalem

In this episode of Iran in Context, Kaveh Azarhoosh and Orly Noy explore the intricate relationship between Iranian and Israeli politics, identity, and activism. The conversation delves into the complexities of personal identity amidst conflict, the role of media and activism in shaping narratives, and the challenges of building coalitions for change. The discussion also highlights the dangers of dehumanisation and the need for solidarity within the diaspora community. As the episode unfolds, the speakers reflect on the future of Iran in Israeli politics and consider what a new dawn might require in the region.

Orly Noy (Mozhgan) is an Iranian-born journalist, translator, and political activist based in Jerusalem. She is the chair of B’Tselem’s executive board, Israel’s leading human rights organisation documenting abuses in the occupied territories. Orly is also an editor at Local Call and a regular contributor to +972 Magazine, where she writes on Israeli politics, Palestinian liberation, and regional dynamics.

Her work frequently reflects on the intersections of her identity as an Iranian, a Mizrahi Jew, a woman, and a leftist. In addition to her journalism and activism, she has translated important Persian literature and poetry into Hebrew, helping to bring marginalised voices into Israeli public discourse.
