Professor Camilla Andersen is a lawyer and academic. She’s been an academic for over thirty years on 4 different continents. She has a lot of experience in international commercial law, but she has devoted the last decade of her life to change and innovation, and to relational contract theory. Ms. Chetty is an edupreneur, a curriculum & instructional design and digital education specialist, and a leader in the Integrative Law Movement. She sees law as an agent of change. This belief is reflected in the courses that she designs and the work that she does. She designed the first Integrative Law Course. She works in legal academia, and both corporate and non-profit sectors. Among her many projects, she works with the Umgeni Community Empowerment Centre to fight against human trafficking and gender-based violence.
Rajesh Deoli is a Law and Happiness Advocate on a mission to change the negative perceptions people have lawyers by using his legal skills to help people maximize their happiness. He started the Law and Happiness Office where he draws upon his experience working with NGOS and human rights groups with Gender Justice, Child Protection, and Rule of Law Programs. He helps people access the legal system while providing both legal and social support.
Dr. Margaret Satya Rose, is co-founder of the Future Law Collaborative, a path-breaking global community of legal futurists including transaction specialists, reformers and philosophers who are all acting together to catalyze systems change at local and global levels. She is also a senior partner at Lex Caribbean and one of the leading anti-corruption and public procurement law specialists in the Commonwealth Caribbean.
Design Thinking, Creativity, and Empathy for Lawyers
Susanne is a creative legal professional, and currently works as Program Manager with the Office of Dispute Resolution for the Colorado Courts. Susanne practiced law in the Netherlands, and has been an author, trainer, and information designer in Visual Thinking for Lawyers for almost 20 years. She is a freelance visual thinking facilitator, and an APPA certified philosophical counselor.
Olivia Fürst is an Integrative and Collaborative Lawyer and Mediator. She worked as a mediator and observer for the Compensation Chamber for Flight 447, of Air France (a chamber created to indemnify the relatives of the victims of the air accident. This experience had a profound effect on Olivia, after which she began to dedicate herself exclusively to peaceful methods of conflicts. In 2013, she won the X Edition of the Innovare Award in the Advocacy category with the text “Collaborative Practices in Family Law”. In 2014, she co-founded the Brazilian Institute of Collaborative Practices – IBPC. Olivia is a collaborative law trainer certified by the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) and a guest speaker at different institutions. She has several articles published in magazines and specialized books.
Debra Segrott is from South Africa and specializes in Family and Child Law. She is an accredited mediator and facilitator and has been trained in Collaborative Divorce Law. In 2019, complications from a hip surgery left propelled Ms. Segrott to take stock of her life, including her legal practice. As a result, she got very clear –she would no longer litigate cases. She resides in Cape Town, has three adult sons, focuses solely on mediation, and has a dream of building a thriving collaborative law practice and community in South Africa.
Carmen is an integrative and collaborative lawyer. She co-founded the firm, Abogacia Colaborativa, which specializes in negotiation and resolution of conflicts in labor and family law matters. Carmen views her legal practice as a vocation of service to the citizenry. Being aware that lawsuits are not always the best solution to clients’ problems, she actively works on finding appropriate processes and solutions for each conflict.
Carmen also uses Conscious Contracts® to help her clients create strong foundations for their relationships to help them navigate through conflicts that may arise without destroying their relationship.
Rajan Chettiar was one of the first collaborative lawyers in Singapore and handled the first collaborative case in Singapore. His legal journey to collaborative law practice is in integrity with his life philosophy, which is to help and support people to make the world a better place for all. After working at one of the oldest and most prestigious law firms in Singapore, Rajan set up the firm of Rajan Chettiar & Co. that specializes in all aspects of family and personal law. He has a master’s in counseling, is a mediator, serves on the IACP Board of Directors, is a prolific writer, and volunteers with various welfare organizations and family service centers in Singapore.
Jamie-Lee Tuuta (Ngai Tahu, Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri, Ngāti Toa Rangatira) is a collaborative and integrative lawyer from New Zealand. She is a barrister who specializes in Family Law and Māori Land Law. She is trained as collaborative practitioner and mediator. Jamie-Lee is involved in various kaupapa with the focus on improving justice outcomes for Whanau Māori. In this episode, she shares her legal journey and how she develops and applies her legal skills, such as her collaborative law training, to address social and economic inequality and improve the quality of life for everyone, particularly those who do not have the capacity to access the necessary services they need and deserve.
Joining us in this episode is Ron Ousky, a recognized international leader in developing innovative ways to help family law clients. He is a past president of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and Minnesota’s Collaborative Law Institute. With Stu Webb, Ron co-authored The Collaborative Way to Divorce: The Revolutionary Method that Results in less Stress, Lower Costs and Happier Kids, Without Going to Court. Ron is also the cofounder of the Collaborative Alliance Executive Suites, believed to be the largest interdisciplinary family law center in the world. Ron is a recipient of the American Bar Association’s Lawyer as Problem Solver Award.
