4:20 pm Houston is making a big push for naturalization, but where are we now and where do we want to go? For 25 years, Congress has ignored the 1.4 million people who are on Temporary Protected Status or TPS and the 700,000 who came as children, who cannot apply for an official channel to get a Green Card,  In addition to making it more expensive to file for citizenship, the USCIS has made the civics exam more difficult to prepare for and to pass. Our frequent guest,Zenobia Lai, the Executive Director of Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative, tells us about these developments.

4:50 pm The Open Enrollment period to sign up for Medicare will begin on October 1 and lasts through December 7. We are joined by Medicare Insurance Broker Kaushi Shah who will explain the less understood parts ofMedicare insurance. We are all familiar with Medicare Part A and Part B, but there are many more nuances of Medicare. We ask her today to explain what changes are coming along next year to Medicare and why it is so important forus to pay attention before signing up.

5:20 pm Gopal Aggarwal is the founder and CEO of Tara Capital. He leads the company's corporate strategy, long-range planning, and business development functions and oversees capital improvement and value-add programs across portfolio. He has over 30 years of multi-faceted real estate experience across apartments, hotels, and retail. 5:00 pm Opened just two years ago, the Eternal Gandhi Museum in Houston is dedicated to honoring the apostle of Non-violent disobedience, Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. As Gandhi’s 155th birthday approaches on October 2, we turn to Trustee and museum co-founder Dr. Manish Wani to tell us what celebrations are being planned.

5:20 pm Since the Trump Administration took power, it has kept its promise to round up illegal aliens and deport them or detain then in rapidly deployed detention facilities.Another less widely known aspect to this “immigrant cleansing” is the curtailment of student visas, the reduction in scholarships made available by universities, the huge increase in tourist visa fees and huge delays in getting visas all of which have been detrimental to America’s image abroad. Adding to this is greater scrutiny at ports of entry and possible retraction of long obtained naturalizedcitizenship due to irregularities in original applications. We ask attorney George Willy to explain how to deal with the citizenship issue.

4:20 pm Thousands of people get injured at work, while playing sports, in car accidents and so on. Many do not know their options to seek compensation for their injuries. Starting today, we will feature a monthly segment on personal injury law by Attorney Divjyot Singh, the Managing Partner at SHEV Law Group. He joins us today to explain what Personal Injury Law covers, from car and truck accidents to dealing with insurance companies and compensation claims.

4:50 pm Under the guise of rounding up illegals who are criminals, the Trump Administration has been expanding surveillance of immigrants, but at what cost? The steps taken have gone beyond simple detention to wholesale invasion of private data as systems at the IRS and Social Security are co-mingled and reviewed, detention facilities built and used across the country, and social media accounts routinely checked at ports of entry. In seven months, the country has jettisoned safeguards and is looking more like a police state. Gautam Sinha has done some research on this transformation and shares his findings with us.

5:20 pm In the past 34 years, Dr. Arun Verma has made his mark in Houston as a real estate entrepreneur after leading a very successful career in oil and gas in Canada. In the past fourteen years he has made another career for himself as the organizer of the Dussehra and Diwali celebration which has become a tradition in the greater Houston area. SpokesmanKapil Sharma calls in today to tell us about the upcoming event on October 4th and what to expect at the festival, which will be held once again at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.

4:20 pm With the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigrants and reports of harassment of Permanent Residents and even citizens re-entering the country, many long time residents who are eligible are considering becoming citizens. There were 818,000 permanent residents in 2024, and 360,000 are eligible. But the pathway toward citizenship is getting more expensive anddifficult. Today, we are joined by Zenobia Lai, the Executive Director of the non-profit Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative, to talk about the costs and challenges to becoming a citizen.

4:40 pm At the urging of Donald Trump, Gov. Greg Abbott has pushed for a mid-census redistricting of the Texas Congressional map, putting four Houston area districts squarely in contention, in a bid to win 5 seats forthe GOP in next year’s elections. In the special session called by Abbott, out of the 18 bills that needed addressing, chief of which was relief funding for the flood-stricken areas of Kerr County, he flipped the order and opted to vote on redistricting. This prompted 50 Democrats to bolt to Illinois and California and deny a quorum to hold a vote. We speak by phone with State Rep.
